myself and school didnt like each other much so i would say im a late bloomer.i always flourished when i educated myself on the subjects that interest me.

Is 47 too late to be a late bloomer?

I was reading when I was three and a half. Maybe I was an early bloomer. I kept bugging Mom so much to read books to me that she finally told me how to read so I could do it myself and leave her alone.

On the other hand I've never been on a date before, so I'm pretty late blooming here.

When I was 17 I was asked to join a beauty contest, but my mother put a stop to the whole thing. I was furious, but in retrospect I realize she was right, so I probably was an early bloomer…on the outside…my brain, on the other hand, has yet to bloom.

I was the youngest and smallest in my class in school so I would have been a late bloomer. If you are born at a certain time of year after school starts you can be skipped a year ahead that makes you younger than everyone else in your class.

Which kind of a pain for your social life as you are behind everyone else developmentally. Worse for things like sports, you just can't compete. So when everyone else can drink (alcohol) at age 18 you still are underage. Everyone else gets their drivers license ahead of you. You get treated like the baby of your peer group.

I didn't realise this until last year when I was trying to figure out - why are all my friends older and bossy to me?? Why does one say to me that everytime I have a birthday, I will catch up to her? Why was everyone at primary school picking me up like a doll, and why when I went to school nobody was interested in toys and make believe anymore and we were suddenly supposed to 'go round' with the opposite sex and have bfs and gfs.

I was prodigious in other areas though. Apparently in year 4 I had a reading age of 16+ when I was 8 years old. I could read chapter books and classics like the Secret Garden at 9 and everyone thought I was a genius, because it had soo many pages.

I don't think you're a late bloomer if you were able to learn things that interested you. You're just very independent-minded.

I notice that girls often bloom earlier than boys of the same age, this is what happens in school. But they come out ahead in other ways and it kind of evens out by the time they finish school.

There's these Waldorf schools that allow children more sensory experiences and only teach reading when children reach 7 rather than expect them to read/know their letters from preschool.

I learned to read/picked it up by the time I was 6, probably from watching Sesame Street, because they broke down the sounds as well as the syllables. In English though. I never learned to read Chinese. I can only recognise some characters, like numbers, and basic ones. Mum tried. to teach me but she gave up after a while. It's. a lot to memorise, thus my Chinese is very basic and I only really know it by ear. It's the same with music. I can follow some of the notes in written scores but I have no idea if a note is a b sharp or a c flat, or whatever they are.

I learned to drive at 15 though, though I have been driving a car for over 30 years ?? I wouldn't say I am really good at driving.

I feel like I'm behind in other areas and milestones in my life. Like I never really left home, but I think the stigma is less these days since it's so expensive to establish yourself in this economy. And as noted before, females have different expectations of life than males.

Who wears bloomers these days?
I always thought bloomer meant like a flower??
In my garden club, we have a competition called 'best blooms' and the flowers are whatever is flowering at the time, we just need to pick the best one.

Being early or late meant if a flower bloomed at the start of spring, it was early, and if it was late, it would be like near the end of summer.
Right on time meant the flower bloomed in October- November (southern hemisphere) or May or June (northern hemisphere)
Though in the tropics flower all year round, as there is no winter.
