No, we didn't forget, we were discussing how blood moons and eclipses were not the fulfillment of these prophecies. They don't really tie in at all.
sigh...then we agree....I'm getting off the merry go round now
No, we didn't forget, we were discussing how blood moons and eclipses were not the fulfillment of these prophecies. They don't really tie in at all.
Quite simply because those words, spoken and written, 2,000 years ago, said "I'ts gonna happen soon."
By your way of thinking, you should be looking for those things to happen somewhere around 4,035...... because, of course, whatever we hear or read is meant for people who will be living 2,000 years from now.
What makes it the year 2015 to you?
Do you honestly think the disciples who were asking Jesus those questions had the slightest inkling that He meant He was going to get killed, and THEN come back as a conquering king? Of course not. They just wanted to know when He was going to get their expected rebellion rolling.
We blind ourselves by thinking those guys had the Bible to thumb through when they asked those questions. They were concerned with the there and then, and the oppression of Rome and Judaism that they wanted out from under.
And THAT is a correct interpretation of things Scriptural. (IMHO)
I do hope you know as well as I do that the original language never said "end of the WORLD", don't you? We foolishly forget to verify what was actually written, and just blissfully go along thinking what the church has accepted through translations that we are beginning to see fouled up at almost every opportunity they had.So, when this question was asked...
Mat 24:3 And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world?
You take it to mean that Christ was saying immediately?
I don't see it that way.
the word soon can also mean quickly. in other words, when the things start, they will end quickly.
Which goes by what jesus said.
The disciples knew he would return and fulfill the prophesies (how else could they know )which is why they said, the signs of the end of the age, and his coming.
Jesus said birth pangs (a woman in labor starts out with a few week contractions, they exponentially get closer and alot stringer) which is what Jesus used to explain how these events he spoke of would occure (few in number and mild in intensity, exponentially getting more frequent, and more severe)
Disciples were not stupid, they understood this , as well as everything else he said (wars and rumors of wars) could not be fulfilled in their lifetime.
Jesus also said this "great tribulation" would be very sever, worse than the world has ever seen, or will ever see again, And would be stopped by his own return.
Has it happened yet? No
Was 70 AD more severe than ww1 and ww2? No, not even close.
thus all these things must be yet future.
I do hope you know as well as I do that the original language never said "end of the WORLD", don't you? We foolishly forget to verify what was actually written, and just blissfully go along thinking what the church has accepted through translations that we are beginning to see fouled up at almost every opportunity they had.
And, again, can you think of one possible reason the disciples would ask about the destruction of the world millenniums in the future? And if they HAD... don't you think that would be the ONLY thing on their minds from that moment, forward?
HUH????????????????????How many times have I posted end of the age? The word aion means age not world and the return of Christ is the end of an age and beginning of another age.
In this respect, you can bet your bottom dollar time is short..... for all of us. It comes right after that last breath. After that, there are no more opportunities.Paul thought so early in his ministry...
1Co 7:26 I suppose therefore that this is good for the present distress, I say, that it is good for a man so to be.
1Co 7:27 Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed. Art thou loosed from a wife? seek not a wife.
1Co 7:28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.
1Co 7:29 But this I say, brethren, the time is short: it remaineth, that both they that have wives be as though they had none;
1Th 4:15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
1Th 4:17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
But later on he began to realize that it would not happen in his lifetime.
2Ti 4:6 For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand.
2Ti 4:7 I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:
2Ti 4:8 Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
How many times have I posted end of the age? The word aion means age not world and the return of Christ is the end of an age and beginning of another age.

HUH????????????????????
Go look a few post up the line. You clearly posted "the end of the WORLD." I can't follow you if you are going to say you didn't say what you did.
Did I say somewhere that I was? No, nowhere. John tried that ploy, but that's all I recall. If I called him, or you, something, would that, then, make it so?then you would not be a preterist.
Thanks for the compliment, but I'm not a mind reader. I read your statement, and I replied to what you said there.Sorry, I was assuming a certain level of understanding on your part.
And, again, can you think of one possible reason the disciples would ask about the destruction of the world millenniums in the future? And if they HAD... don't you think that would be the ONLY thing on their minds from that moment, forward? (Just like many are obsessed with it today)
Mt 24:4-36
4 And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you.5 For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many.6 And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet.7 For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.8 All these are the beginning of sorrows.9 Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake.10 And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another.11 And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many.12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.13 But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.14 And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come.15 When ye therefore shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand16 Then let them which be in Judaea flee into the mountains:17 Let him which is on the housetop not come down to take any thing out of his house:18 Neither let him which is in the field return back to take his clothes.19 And woe unto them that are with child, and to them that give suck in those days!20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day:21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be.22 And except those days should be shortened, there should no flesh be saved: but for the elect's sake those days shall be shortened.23 Then if any man shall say unto you, Lo, here is Christ, or there; believe it not.24 For there shall arise false Christs, and false prophets, and shall shew great signs and wonders; insomuch that, if it were possible, they shall deceive the very elect.25 Behold, I have told you before.26 Wherefore if they shall say unto you, Behold, he is in the desert; go not forth: behold, he is in the secret chambers; believe it not.27 For as the lightning cometh out of the east, and shineth even unto the west; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.28 For wheresoever the carcase is, there will the eagles be gathered together.29 Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:30 And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.31 And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.35 Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away.36 But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.
KJV
.32 Now learn a parable of the fig tree; When his branch is yet tender, and putteth forth leaves, ye know that summer is nigh:33 So likewise ye, when ye shall see all these things, know that it is near, even at the doors.34 Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled
The Fig tree, (both in Scripture and in extra-Biblical Jewish literature) is consistently a figure of the nation of Israel.
Whether we count from 11/29/47 (the UN mandate) or 5/14/1948 (the establishment of Israel as an independent state; I believe that these verses say that at least 1 person who was alive when Israel was re-established will live to see Jesus' return.
This IMO establishes a context, whithin which we can accurately look at end times.
then you would not be a preterist.
