A PARAPHARSE
Ephesians 2:8-10

"For God's grace is the grounds of our salvation, as faith is the condition of it's appropriation; we do not achieve it by our good works; God freely bestows it, and we must ascribe it to His goodness alone. Our Christian life is His work; we are His new creation and His gracious purpose He has given us our place and work in His kingdom."

Emphasis added, I love the use of "appropriation" in this paraphrase, in the Late Middle English it means, "the artistic practice or technique of reworking images from well-known paintings, photographs, etc., in one's own work." This give us the reality of our salvation, it's God re-working our sinful lives into His work of art. The word for work in the Greek "ποίημα" or "poIēma"
Greek New Testament 4th edition, Dictionary. Has "ποίημα, τος n (ποίέω) what is created or made". The Greek word for create or the paraphrase here "new creation", "κτίζω" or "KTíZO" Mounce Concise Greek-English Dictionary of the New Testament, "κτίζω" or "KTíZO" pr. to reduce from a state of disorder and wildness; in NT to call into being, to create, Mk. 13:19; to call into individual existence, to frame, Eph. 2:15; to create spiritually, to invest with a spiritual frame, Eph. 2:10; 4:24" ποίημα is where we get our word for poem, poIēma.

This gives us the idea that we are, His poetic recreation, it's not us doing it, because He is the one making a spiritual investment in our lives, from a state of disorder and wildness, basically spiritually bankrupt. With the idea behind it of His
creative Word framing our new lives in Christ, this is the faith that we have in Christ. It's how God framed the worlds, Hebrews 11:3 "By faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that the things which are seen were not made of things which are visible." We are moved by the Spirit, He opens our ears to the Word of God and we believe and our lives are changed forever, by the gift of eternal life.

Grace is the bases or means of our salvation, the faith resulting from that is the bases of our life in the faith, because God is doing the recreating of our lives from the disorder of wildness our lives are, because of sin. He has invested all, His Son, His Word, His Spirit, His love, His grace and He works it in our lives as a gift to us, we respond in belief/repentance/faith as He works in our lives, we agree with Him that what He is revealing to us is sin and He forgive us, because He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins.

If anyone thinks, that grace, is a license to sin, they have not come to the knowledge of the truth in regeneration. Because once we come to the knowledge of the truth, that we are sinners and will stand before a holy God, BUT He sent His Son to suffer the consequence of our sins, that if we believe with a repentant faith, accepting His gift of grace, He will save us from His righteous judgement or His vengeful righteous wrath.

If that doesn't cause you to song with John Newton,
"Amazing grace how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me.
I once was lost but now I'm found.
Was blind but now I see.
'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved.
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed."

You need to view your life by the plumb line of God's Law, His holy standard. Read Deuteronomy 5:6-21, then read Psalm 58, 73, 94, then read Psalm 139.

Isn't it strange that we are supposed to love our enemies?

Do you think that is because that is what God has done with us? Loved us even though we were His enemy, completely against Him, at one point?

How can we do what God does? How can we be perfect like that?

Awesome point you just made. Makes you think doesn't it.

Here is a post about Ephesians 2:8-9 that has spoken to me of the completed work of Christ for us.

Quote:

Eph 2:8~~New American Standard Bible

For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;

The Believer's Study Bible writes that...

The full sense of the expression “you have been saved” is difficult to capture in English.

The Greek perfect tense emphasizes action initiated in the past, the effects of which continue into the present and beyond. Therefore, salvation has a moment of initiation in the past, but the results of that primary experience continue (Ed: See Three Tenses of Salvation).

This is another evidence of the permanence of our salvation, a doctrine which is called the “eternal security of the believer.”
(Criswell, W A. Believer's Study Bible: New King James Version. 1991. Thomas Nelson)

Commenting on the significance of the tense of the two verbs "been" (present tense) and "saved" (perfect tense) Kenneth Wuest writes...

Not content with the details offered by the perfect tense, Paul uses a periphrastic construction (Ed note: a periphrasis is the use of a longer phrasing in place of a possible shorter form of expression = a roundabout way of expressing something.

In Greek it specifically means the use of a verb in any tense but aorist in combination with the verb eimi = to be as the auxiliary verb) consisting of the participle in the perfect tense and the verb of being in the present tense.

The perfect tense speaks of the existence of finished results in present time, whereas Paul wanted to express persistence of finished results through present time. So he borrows the durative aspect of the present tense verb to give persistence to the existing results.

The Expanded Translation reads:
“By the grace have you been saved completely with the result that you are in a state of salvation which persists through present time.”

Present time in this instance is always the time at which the reader reads his statement. The security of the believer could not have been expressed in stronger terms.

Correct, the Christian life is God's work, it's not us doing it. Which means we can throw out any measuring stick and rest in Christ and the knowledge that He is completing the work He has begun in us. He is more than able, failure is simply not an option.

Only through the imputed righteousness of Christ, other wise we are done. It is His perfect life that we are in joint union with that makes us perfect in the eyes of God or before God, we know He does not physical eyes per-say.

Brother what program is that? I have the Wuest Word studies and it get old typing it all out, it would be nice to be able to copy and paste it. I have Vincent's and the Expositor's, the Expositor's is online at Bible Hub, along with Vincent's or on Studylight.org

As I think, I do not see us loving our brothers and sisters like we are supposed to, let alone our enemies.

No wonder we are such sinners.. If not for Gods grace, we would be doomed.

Salvation. (biblehub.com)

The Gospel Day - Charles Ebert Orr

Future Salvation. There are a few texts of Scripture which teach a salvation yet in the future. "And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved." Mat.10:22. "Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling." Phil.2:12. These texts do not prove that there is no salvation only at the end of human life, else what could be the meaning of the many texts that speak of a present salvation? These two texts are very easily harmonized with those teaching a present experience of saving grace. As long as we are in this world it is possible for us to lose our salvation. Though we are now saved from sin by grace it is possible for us to be overtaken in some way and lose this experience. As long as we are here we must endure temptation. But if we endure unto the end when this mortality puts on immortality we pass beyond the possibility of losing salvation, hence, we are saved eternally. By resisting temptation, by praying and watching, we "work out our salvation." The time comes when there are no more temptations to resist, and we are safe and saved forever.I am saved now from all sin, but to keep this experience I must watch, pray, work, resist and endure unto the end of my life, and then my salvation receives the seal of eternity -- saved in glory forever. Amen.

You must of missed the conditional clause before, that doesn't cause you to sing with John Newton. Do you really think that a person would write all about God's saving grace and then add it's all done by works of the Law? Brother before jumping to a conclusion make sure that the conclusion is right. The Law brings the knowledge of sin Romans 3:20, if one is sure he's a guide to the blind and brings light to those in darkness, an instruct the foolish, teacher of children, having in the Law the embodiment of knowledge and truth. Romans 2:19-20

The reason I advised to read the 10 commandments, then those Psalms is so that one could see that they will stand before a Holy God for their sin and He sees all and knows all, that His wrath is furious against sin and sinner alike. Those that know that the flesh bring forth nothing, that it's of no help, that it's all by the Spirit that brings life (John 6:63, 65), they already understand, what john Newton's heart felt when he came to the knowledge of the truth, in Christ Jesus our Lord. Maybe I should of added Isaiah 53, so they could see what the price of grace was for their sins.

Newton got thoroughly saved. He was a slaver before God brought him to Christ. He found himself lower than the lowest of men and marveled that Christ would reach down and lift him from the miry clay.

Seems like the lost-er you get the more you can appreciate the gift of salvation by Gods grace. None of us was any better than John Newton just many of us feel we were not as bad as he. God saw us all in the same hopeless condition when He purposed to send Jesus to save us.

For the cause of Christ
Roger

They have tons of stuff in Wordsearch and they have good deals from time to time. They will also give you a better price if you call them up. I had numerous Greek resources thrown in for free when I first got the software. But I think most software programs are good now.

Bring who to repentance?? What exactly is the point of your OP?
Anyone who has not, there was no hidden agenda. There are people that are not registered that browse the site, I can only imagine that not all of them are saved. Maybe if it's their time, they would read those Scriptures and come to know His amazing grace.
