Paul was not talking about how he saved himself. He was talking about how he let God sanctify him, And he congtinued to run the race.
I like how you understand everything your own way.
It's kind of nice, too bad it's not true.

OK so...you're agreeing with me that people can be mistaken about what they believe. OK then. So far, so good. They are many many former believers who think they are not saved, and they are. Just the truth which reproves your fact of life as not a fact at all.
Well...I would say you're having some interpretation problems I'm not going to just now sort out for you. Suffice it to say, if one portion of that passage says Jesus WILL deny us...and another portion says God will "remain faithful"...then the passage has canceled itself out...as far as your hopes of using it for proof that every single soul who ever said "Lord, Lord" is saved."...if we deny him, he also will deny us:13 If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself"
This makes no sense. They are many many former believers who think they are not saved, and they are. Just the truth which reproves your fact of life as not a fact at all.
If you do a word study on "deny" as in 2 Tim 2:12 - you will find that the root word means to "contradict". Contradict means to say the opposite of or to deny the truth of.
If you contradict what Christ has done before men - He will contradict what you are saying before the Father. Which is why Paul says "He cannot deny or contradict Himself".
2 Timothy 2:12-13 (KJV)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:
[SUP]13[/SUP] If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.
One application would be this " I am a worm and am nothing but a mess". Jesus says to the Father - they are the righteousness of God in Me. Holy and blameless because I redeemed them with My blood and I have made them worthy!
Jesus contradicts what we say.
arneomai - to deny, refuse
perhaps from <G1> (a) (as a negative particle) and the middle of <G4483> (rheo); to contradict
Strong's Talking Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.
Paul was not talking about how he saved himself. He was talking about how he let God sanctify him, And he congtinued to run the race.
Amen! In Matthew 10:32-33, the broader context of this passage relates to the fact that the Pharisees had continuously denied Jesus while the disciples spoke about Him in every city they visited. We might paraphrase His teaching this way: "Whoever confesses me before men (such as you disciples), I will confess him before my Father in heaven. But whoever denies me before men (like these Pharisees do on every occasion they get), I will deny him before my Father in heaven.
Those who confess Jesus are those who recognize Him as being the true Messiah and trust in Him as the ALL-sufficient means of their salvation. Those who deny Jesus (and those who give mere lip service confession) but refuse to trust in Him alone for salvation place themselves beyond any possibility of salvation, since salvation is found only in Him (John 10:9; 14:6).
The word for "deny" is an aorist tense. This points to the fact that Jesus is not talking about a single instance of denial (as was the case with Peter, who actually denied Him three times - Luke 22:34), but is referring to life in its entirety. Hence, the person who throughout his life denies Christ (as was typically the case with the Pharisess and includes unbelievers who may even give mere "lip service confession" - Matthew 7:22-23, but lack saving faith) will be denied by Christ before the Father.
You can't have "eternal life" and yet still die...otherwise it wasn't eternal life!
I wasn't quite clear on why you're restating all of this? But this verse DOES mean there are people whose names are already written down in the Book of Life. They ARE saved, period. BUT they don't get to know that in advance. They don't get an advance 'sneak peek' at the Book of Life!
Again, once you have "eternal life"...you have eternal life. Eternal life is either eternal or it isn't. If someone has life and loses it...it wasn't "eternal" to begin with. You're either immortal or you're not.
I guess I'm not following your logic: You're saying there are people who fall into unbelief and lose their salvation. At what point should an individual who is at least seeming to be headed in that direction begin to have some fear?
The Lord didn't separate the Law into 3 parts and abolish two of the parts. None of it was abolished. It was all fulfilled. ALL.
There's no such thing as a moral law. But I see how you could apply the Holy Spirit as causing a person to want to keep a moral law.
The Holy Spirit is the cause inside of us for walking the way God wants us to walk. So if you say that is according to a moral law that kind of leaves a way to twist things but I guess I can almost agree with it. I would rather say that it is how we walk by the spirit. So there is no doubt that you are keeping your will and understanding of the law out of it.
But at some point I do have to say that the fruit of the Spirit is what keeps the spiritual law. So even though I don't want to leave the door open for your understanding and will to be able to keep a "moral" law I suppose its almost more of an argument of terms...
The Lord has said without me you can do nothing. That is speaking directly to the spiritual law and the Holy Spirit required to walk in that spiritual law.
Why people call it a moral law, I do not know. Nowhere in the bible is there any reference to a moral law. Not sure what bible people read nowadays. But call it what you will you still need God in order to keep Gods "morals".
The reason I think you understand this and are not trying to twist terms to put people back to work at their carnal understanding is because of the small part of your post concerning Romans 1-5. I completely and 100% agree with you in that regard. If you are saying what I think you are saying.... Which is roughly "Without the Lord we can do nothing".
People who aren't saved, face God's fiery judgment. (??)There's a really big communication gap between us.
WHAT FEAR?
I don't know what you're speaking of up above.
I'd be happy to answer if I only knew about what...

Try to cease believing in anything.
Cease believing in gravity.
Cease believing in thermodynamics.
Cease believing that fire is hot and ice is cold.
Once you know something how do you cease to know it? Is it possible? And if you somehow were able to, which I highly doubt, would it be able to change any of the facts by your pretending?
Eternally-gratefulforgive me, I get told that by so many, when you said it I assumed you were like the rest.
so I must ask again, Why have you failed to answer my question. Is asking for forgiveness required to continue to be forgiven? I ask because many say it is, I want your opinion.
Fran..I already addressed in a former post your quotes from guys like Irenaeus who said that they stop being sons of God. That is a bunch of complete foolishness. Can you stop yourself from being a child of your father?
They are not scripture. They are opinions and some of them are people "reading" into the things they have said and saying it means - they go to hell now. It's a bunch of religious garbage.
All your points have been addressed by many people. You are free to believe whatever you want but I do not for a minute believe that Jesus is a liar. He said that He would never leave us nor forsake us and that the Holy Spirit is with us forever. No one can pluck them out of My hand nor My Father's hand. Did Jesus all of a sudden become a used car dealer and do a "bait and switch" on us with some fine print?
To water down the gospel because some are afraid they might do whatever they want is actually nullifying the very grace that they need to live by faith in what our Lord has done for them.
Yes, there are many warnings in scripture about living from the flesh and from not growing in grace and faith in what Christ has done. If you read all those to mean that we go to hell because of it - it is a bunch of nonsense and anti-Christ in it's very nature.
The teaching of people losing salvation as in not being with the Lord is without a doubt the #1 worst destructive false doctrine that the devil has ever put into the mind of man to nullify the very love and grace of God from operating in our lives. It undermines the whole "why" of the gospel in the first place.
If you do not hold on to the faith that Christ has brought us peace - then you will not experience that peace in this life. You will not experience the kingdom of God in your life in that area while on this earth. It will bring destruction in your life. When you die - do you go to hell now because of it? of course not.
I have not found one scripture that says we go to hell after we become a believer in Christ - sealed with the Holy spirit. NOT ONE!
There is not one scripture that says once you are sealed with the Holy Spirit and joined as one spirit with the Lord - that He leaves you. The whole thought is so anti-the gospel and anti-Christ - I can't fathom people even considering it to be really frank.
People can believe whatever they want about this subject but I for one do not believe the Lord Jesus Christ is a liar. I'm a believer and so I will continue to preach and teach the grace and love of God. It's the goodness of God that brings us to repentance.
The gospel ( which ironically means "good news" ) is the power of God for salvation.
We do and can know that in Christ we do have now ( present tense ) eternal life and it is because we believe in the name of the Son of God. Yes we will die physically until the Lord comes back to give us new bodies.
The body is dead because of sin but the spirit is alive because of righteousness Rom 8:10
Take up shooting heroin in your arms today and you will die quicker than you need to. All the works of the flesh bring destruction of some sort to us. From malice and the slandering of others in the body of Christ - to living a homosexual lifestyle. They are in the same lists as works of the flesh.
1 John 5:13 (NASB)
[SUP]13 [/SUP] These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life.
Everything you say above is correct. And in every case you state that you ARE IN CHRIST. What if you're not? Are you still saved? Your faith saved you. If you lose your faith, are you still saved? Please show from scripture a verse that shows someone has lost their faith and are still saved.
all I can ask is this, Why do you lack faith in God? Why are you not holding onto the promises of God and still trying to save yourself? (I ask, because if you had faith like I do. non of the things you are using to deny eternal security would make a bit of sense to you.)
You don't know if I have faith or not. I didn't comment on the status of YOUR faith and it would be nice if you reciprocated the courtesy
Fran
Unfortunately Fran this is EG way of talking.
He claims your position means you are not saved, rather than exploring what faith
is for you.
In his world not believing in security in Christ destroys the security in Christ and salvation
so you must not be a believer. The fact everything shows you believe everything about
Christ is put to one side on this simple principle.
It is the cornerstone of their legalism theology and the idea that the whole world is
deceived by legalist salvation workers and they have the key to recognise them and
confront them.
This belief has possessed them to the extent anything that moves them from their
position is satan deceiving them, and conversation then becomes abusive.
Most of these hardened followers have been extreme legalists most of their adult
life so are conditioned to a certain thought process and see everything either like
this or its mirror image. To see you can trust Christ and have love in your heart
that inspires and fires you to good works for them is impossible without this
lawless faith in Christ that can never be walked away from.
Yes Grace, but it's like you don't get my point.
Look what you wrote up there:
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, so that you may know that you have eternal life
You must believe in the name of the Son so that you may have eternal life.
What if you STOP believing??
John 17:3
"AND THIS IS ETERNAL LIFE, THAT THEY MAY KNOW THEE, THE ONLY TRUE GOD AND JESUS CHRIST WHOM THOU HAS SENT."
NASB
You like Greek, in Greek, what does KNOW mean?
What if we don't KNOW Jesus anymore?
We get to have eternal life anyway?
I thought Jesus gave us eternal life?
