Respectfully, claiming that a particular translation of a word is correct based on the translation of the word is circular reasoning and therefore without merit. Is there something beyond or behind the English translation of "ezer kenegdo" on which you base your assertion that "help mate" is correct?

I'm looking for a little more here. Proverbs 31, while describing "an excelent wife", does not directly support the idea that "help mate" is the correct translation of "ezer kenegdo".

This (bolded) is an interesting question. If you read Genesis 1 as a summary, and Genesis 2 as a detailed explanation, the conflict is resolved. I believe it was always God's intention to fashion Eve; He just chose to delay the act until Adam recognized the need.

i am sure it was His intention from the beginning, which to me raises the significant question of why did He bring all the animals before Adam first? He knew there would be no suitable companion -- whose benefit is this for? my wife and i were talking about this today, and she points out that it's not recorded that Adam initiated any of this: He didn't 'complain' or ask for anything ((just gong by the text)). we both think the idea that Adam's life in paradise was "unbearable" is utterly preposterous, and it's certainly not supported by the text at all.
we came to a conclusion that it is probably for the angels -- see, there is Adam, there is God, there are the created living souls, and there is the angelic realm who see this take place. it is not for God's benefit, certainly, and improbably for the creatures. it's plausible, maybe, that this is to teach Adam something, but the text doesn't reflect that since he's not asking for anything. which leaves the angels -- what would the angels be taught by these events, in this order? which angels?

why make man without woman if your intention is to make woman also?

what is the significance that Adam was formed outside the garden and then placed in it, while Woman is formed in the garden - she, from his side, and he, from dust?

While I wouldn't bank on it, I suspect that the reason God made Eve later was to show Adam that he needed to trust God's provision in all things.

i'm thinking Adam was doing this already - he wasn't tilling the ground, producing food through sweat and toil, at the time.
