Acts 8:16-19
[SUP]14 [/SUP]The apostles in Jerusalem heard that the people of Samaria had accepted the word of God. So they sent Peter and John to the people in Samaria. [SUP]15 [/SUP]When Peter and John arrived, they prayed for the Samaritan believers to receive the Holy Spirit. [SUP]16 [/SUP]These people had been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus, but the Holy Spirit had not yet come down on any of them. This is why Peter and John prayed. [SUP]17 [/SUP]When the two apostles laid their hands on the people, they received the Holy Spirit.
[SUP]18 [/SUP]Simon saw that the Spirit was given to people when the apostles laid their hands on them. So he offered the apostles money. [SUP]19 [/SUP]He said, “Give me this power so that when I lay my hands on someone, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”

Lest us discuss here

The bible says that in line 14, “people of Samaria accepted the word of God” just like you and me when we accepted the word of Christ in the beginning when we first become Christians.
And they “baptised in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ,

And then it says that “they send Peter and John”- Why do they have to send peter and John?
“Peter and john prayed for the Samaritan believer”- they accepted word Jesus

Christ and they believed Just like you and me.
And then it says that, “these people had been baptized in the name of the
Lord Jesus, but the Holy Spirit had not yet come down on any of them”
.

If Jesus promises to send Holy Spirit to us then they should already have Holy Spirit and they do not need peter and John to put their hand on them to pray for them in order to receive Holy Spirit because they accepted the word of God and they also believe and Holy Spirit should automatically went to them. How is possible that peter and John have to go and pray for them.

It continues line 17, “When the two apostles laid their hands on the people, they received the Holy Spirit”.
“And if we say that we receive Holy Spirit then how did we receive Holy Spirit”.

  1. They accept the word of Lord Jesus Christ
  2. They believed AND
  3. They Baptised
  4. They did not receive Holy spirit
Basically this what it means,

  1. Condition Number 1=Believe: John 3:16 [SUP]16 [/SUP]Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him would not be lost but have eternal life

  1. Condition Number 2=Water baptise- John 3:5-8 [SUP]5 [/SUP]Jesus answered, “Believe me when I say that everyone must be born from water and the Spirit. Anyone who is not born from water and the Spirit cannot enter God’s kingdom.

  1. Condition Number 3: Spirit Baptise- John 3:5-8 [SUP]5 [/SUP]Jesus answered “Believe me when I say that everyone must be born from water and the Spirit. Anyone who is not born from water and the Spirit cannot enter God’s kingdom.

The above 3 are the conditions are the condition to enter the Kingdom of God.

THEY DID NOT RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF HOLY SPIRIT SO HOW DID WE (PEOPLE OF TODAY) RECEIVE HOLY SPIRIT.

Does that make any sense? Yes or no.

You simple answer the question in comment and I can continue on further.

None of the conditions were met because of what they believed in.

Acts 8 :3 But Saul began to destroy the church. Going from house to house, he dragged off both men and women and put them in prison.
4 Those who had been scattered preached the word wherever they went. 5 Philip went down to a city in Samaria and proclaimed the Messiah there.6 When the crowds heard Philip and saw the signs he performed, they all paid close attention to what he said.

I don't think paying close attention is the same as believeing so in proving that they did not believe read the next line.

Acts 9:8 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery in the city and amazed all the people of Samaria. He boasted that he was someone great, 10 and all the people, both high and low, gave him their attention and exclaimed, “This man is rightly called the Great Power of God.” 11 They followed him because he had amazed them for a long time with his sorcery.

So when you read this verse in scripture does it seem that these are followers of CHRIST.

He (Simon) was not the one who was with Jesus Just like the rest of the Apostles that Jesus promised to send them the Helper. He is totally a different person.
Jesus promise to send it to the disciples and the disciples then distribute the Holy Spirit.

Simon is Just like you and me today. Many people today do exactly the same thing as Simon saying that they receive Holy Spirit but actually they tricks may people. How did we receive Holy Spirit? We are doing the same thing as Simon.

Simon is not the one of the disciple therefor he was doing something else which is not godly and that is just the same as today.
Jesus promises to Send Holy Spirit to his disciple and his disciple went and distributes the Holy Spirit to others who believe, baptised, and receive the word of God.
However, later on Simon himself came and asks peter and John to place their hands home him and pray for him so that he can receive the Holy Spirit just like the rest of the People.

Act 8:18-24
[SUP]
18 [/SUP]Simon saw that the Spirit was given to people when the apostles laid their hands on them. So he offered the apostles money. [SUP]19 [/SUP]He said, “Give me this power so that when I lay my hands on someone, they will receive the Holy Spirit.”
[SUP]20 [/SUP]Peter said to Simon, “You and your money should both be destroyed because you thought you could buy God’s gift with money. [SUP]21 [/SUP]You cannot share with us in this work. Your heart is not right before God. [SUP]22 [/SUP]Change your heart! Turn away from these evil thoughts and pray to the Lord. Maybe he will forgive you. [SUP]23 [/SUP]I see that you are full of bitter jealousy and cannot stop yourself from doing wrong.”
[SUP]24 [/SUP]Simon answered, “Both of you pray to the Lord for me, so that what you have said will not happen to me.”

Believe

Acts 19:1-4,
While Apostles was at Corinth; Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples [SUP]2 [/SUP]and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”
[SUP]3 [/SUP]So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
“John’s baptism,” they replied.
[SUP]4 [/SUP]Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” [SUP]5 [/SUP]On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Does that make any sense now.

The simon that is spoken of in these verse of scripture was a devil worshiper, the word sorcerer tells us that it tells us that these people believe in Satan and followed Satan. I am sorry if I didn't point that out in scripture.

Acts 9:8 Now for some time a man named Simon had practiced sorcery

I think if you read this scripture again from top to bottom you will see that it does not reflect what you may think it does.

Even Peter told him his heart wasn't right that he couldn't share in the work.
