Was thinking about this today. If all bibles define themselves, then why such the pushback from people when I allow the bible to define the term "twelve tribes" as read in James 1:1? All throughout the bible that term is exclusive to the entire nation of Israel and is never used as a description of the body of Christ. It is not a Christian term.
I suggest you start a thread on it rather than lobbying for a side issue in this thread.

I find the NASB hilarious. Especially when read with an american accent.
Americans pronounce God as Gawd.

I dont really know who the Lockman foundation is though, apparently they produce the NASB Bibles and amplified after selling their citrus orchard...

apparently you can buy masonic bibles (KJV only) with added masonic occult symbols and references. yep.

funniest bible would have to be lolcat bible.

The King James Bible literally molded the English language, and there can be no denying its power (both in literature and in the spiritual realm).

But above that it was regarded as the Word of God in the English language by Christians for hundreds of years. It is still regarded as such by many Christians. There is not a single modern bible translation that is on a par with this translation, and there never will be, because God had His hand on this translation all along.

All Christians should be cognizant of the fact that all modern versions are in fact corrupted bibles. So why would people choose rotten apples when sound apples are available? We now come to the Mystery of Iniquity, where the Enemy not only sows tares among the wheat, but corrupted bibles among true bibles, and manages to deceive large numbers of Christians. The modern bible movement began with deception, and Westcott & Hort were the primary deceivers. They called good evil and evil good, thus exchanged the sweet for the bitter, and the bitter for the sweet.

Most Christians still do; the question is whether people do so exclusively. Most don't, and anyone with a sound understanding of the history of English translations doesn't. It seems to be only the people who are brainwashed by the KJV-only cult who do.

For all this alleged corruption, there is not a single important doctrine that any KJV-onlyist has been able to establish as missing from the modern versions. NOT A SINGLE ONE.

As for your "warnings", weren't you the one who said in another thread that Christians should reject all forms of fear-mongering?

Have you buys heard of the NET Bible? There is an app (free) available. Probably the best thing about it are the 63,000 translation notes. it’s strength is its accuracy.

For those who prefer the KJV, may I suggest you consider the NKJV instead? The language has been modernized to a degree. I imagine that you misunderstand some of what was intended by the authors when reading the KJV.

I encourage you to research it. You will find that the Greek mss are recent - not nearly as close to the originals as those modern translations are based on (Alexandrian text vs. the Byzantine text).

I am not trying to put down the KJV - at the time it was done, it was an excellent translation... given the mss they had to work with. But the language has changed so much.

It was completed by more than 25 Greek and Hebrew scholars There are nearly 61,000 translator notes, explaining in detail the translation decisions made.

What do you think of the NLT?
Right now I'm sticking to NKJV, ESV and occasionally referring to the NIV.
IMO you can’t go too far wrong with any of those... the NLT is a bit paraphrastic, but sometimes such a translation helps us to realize something that might have slipped by us otherwise.

Ive never seen a hard copy of the NET bible, if they did print one I might be keen to read it, if its as good as purported to be.

I cant be bothered with online bibles.

I think if you found a good translation, you tend to stick with it and dont really need any others. If the translation is any good it should serve you well.

What I find annoying is when people neglect to say what version they are quoting from. Because kjv is so familiar, any other version used will have words changed around and sounds strange. eg someone gave me a calendar with bible quotes for everyday, but it doesnt say what version is used, and so a lot of those quotes are unfamiliar to me.
I can look up the reference in KJv and then go, oh yes...but other versions seem to have lost their meaning. Its kinda weird. I think the verses have been truncated to fit in the box for each day, I dont like when people do that.

You are not supposed to add or delete scripture. People will quote only part of the verse and put .... in but that doesnt help if they never said what version it was so you can fill in the gaps.

I don't care for the NLT in its various editions. It's way too much paraphrase & inserted interpretive slant for me. I like literal word for word as much as I can get.
Sometimes amazing things are revealed by studying out hard to comprehend, oddly worded passages, that paraphrasing changes and obscures.

FYI, Nehemiah6 is a Textus Receptus-only proponent, and prefers the KJV above all others.

I have a NKJV study Bible, "Know the Word" that I've been using a lot in the past 12 months. It's REALLY good.
