Do what in remembrance of me? They were taking the Passover.

Jesus changed the symbles of the passover only, did not do away with it.
Christ showed how passover was to be held in the new testement church.

The Passover service also consists of the foot washing...

How did the Passover get its name originally? “For the Lord will pass through to smite
the Egyptians; and when he seeth the blood upon the lintel, and on the two side posts,

passed over the houses of the children of Israel in Egypt, when he smote the Egyptians,
and delivered our houses. And the people bowed the head and worshipped” (Exodus 12:23, 27).

God passed over the houses that had the blood of the lamb on their doorpost.
God also passes over (forgives) our sins when we repent of them and come
under the shed blood of Jesus Christ our Passover, sacrificed for us.


When the Hebrew children would ask about this service years later, the parents
were to respond, “It is the sacrifice of the Lord’s Passover” (Exodus 12:27)

They kept the Passover on the correct day when they were in the wilderness (Numbers 9:5).
When they entered into the Promised Land, they were still all in agreement (Joshua 5:10).
King Josiah kept the Passover on the 14th (2 Chronicles 35:1). We also read in Ezra’s time
they were still keeping it on the 14th (Ezra 6:19), and this was about 519 b.c.

On the 10th day of this first month the Israelites were instructed to take a lamb without blemish.
They kept it until— not after—the 14th day of the same first month. At even, at dusk as the Jewish

They shed the blood of the lamb, picturing Christ’s sacrifice to come. They ate the flesh in that night.
At midnight the death angel came, but passed over every house where the blood had been sprinkled.

At midnight (the 14th) the Lord smote the firstborn of Egypt. Pharaoh rose up in the night.
This was of course after the death angel passed at midnight, and therefore after midnight.

He called for Moses and Aaron.the Egyptian people were urgent to get rid of the Israelites.
the Israelites borrowed of the Egyptians silver and gold and clothing, and spoiled the Egyptians.
spoiling and borrowing took place through the day time of the 14th day.

the Israelites did not go out from the land of Egypt until that night—the 15th of Abib!

Exodus 40-42 “[E]ven the selfsame day it came to pass, that all the hosts of the Lord went out
from the land of Egypt. It is a night to be much observed unto the Lord for bringing them out from
the land of Egypt: this is that night of the Lord to be observed,The night they came out of Egypt.

Feast of unleaved bread represents putting away sin (transgression of Gods law)
God brought thee forth out of Egypt by night.”

Numbers 33:3: “And they departed from Rameses in the first month, on the fifteenth day of
the first month; on the morrow after the passover the children of Israel went out with
an high hand in the sight of all the Egyptians.”

Numbers 28:16-17. “n the fourteenth day [not after it] … is the passover of the Lord.
And in the fifteenth day [not before it] of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.”

Leviticus 23:5-6 say the same thing. Notice the Passover is not the 15th, but the 14th.
but the feast day is the 15th. The seven-day period begins the 15th. The 15th is the first
of the seven Days of Unleavened Bread.

The 14th day is the Passover. It is the first of God’s festivals.In the 15th day is the feast.

Exodus 12:14-16 “And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to
the Lord throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.
Seven days shall ye eat unleavened bread. And in the first day there shall be an holy convocation …”


What day is established as a memorial—not a shadow, a memorial—a feast—to be kept forever?
Notice, it is the day that is the feast—“[Y]e shall keep it a feast.”
It is the day that is the feast day—the 15th Abib, not the 14th—not the Passover!

A “convocation” is an assembly of the people where their presence is commanded, under power
and authority. A “holy convocation” is a religious assembly, for purposes of worship.

The weekly Sabbath is a holy convocation. So is Abib 15th.
Our presence is commanded, under God’s power and authority.


“And in the first day [of the seven, 15th of Abib] there shall be an holy convocation, and in
the seventh day [21st of Abib] there shall be an holy convocation to you.

And ye shall observe the feast of unleavened bread;for in this selfsame day [the 15th Abib]
have I brought your armies out of the land of Egypt: therefore shall ye observe this day
[the 15th, not the 14th] in your generations by an ordinance for ever”(verses 16-17).

This day is a memorial, not a shadow of the cross. A memorial of deliverance
from Egypt, which pictures to us deliverance from sin!

Observe that the Days of Unleavened Bread are a period, having two high-day sabbaths.
And this period is established forever— given while the Israelites were still in Egypt.

—before one word of the ceremonial law of Moses had been given or written
before God even proposed the Old Covenant! What the law of Moses or the
Old Covenant did not bring or institute, they cannot take away!

Exodus 13:3 “And Moses said unto the people, Remember this day, in which ye
came out from Egypt.” This was the 15th of Abib. Verses 6, 8-10:

“Seven days thou shalt eat unleavened bread, and in the seventh day shall be
a feast to the [Eternal memorial)—“And it shall be for a sign”—that is, having
also a future meaning—“unto thee upon thine hand, and for a memorial between
thine eyes”—having to do with both works and will—why?—

“that the Lord’s law may be in thy mouth …. Thou shalt therefore keep this ordinance ….”

The Passover only pictures the death of Christ for the remission of sins
that are past (Romans 3:25).

The accepting of His blood does not forgive sins we may later commit;
it does not give license to continue in sin. Therefore when we accept it,
our sins are forgiven only up to that time—past sins.

But shall we stop there with only past sins forgiven?

To what extent shall we put away sin? Not partially, but completely!
And, as leaven is also a type of sin (1 Corinthians 5:8)— leaven puffs up,
and so does sin—and, as seven is God’s number symbolizing completeness,
we are to follow the Passover with seven Days of Unleavened Bread!

Shall we leave Christ symbolically hanging on the cross?

The seven Days of Unleavened Bread following Passover picture to us
the complete putting away of sin, the keeping of the commandments—
after past sins are forgiven.

i think to say that you have to understand what the feast of trumpets was.
which, ironically enough, is more or less totally ignored in much of this discussion of playing at 'honoring' or 'keeping' it.

the Feast of Trumpets is [still to come],

“And the Lord spake saying,In the seventh month,in the first day of the month,
shall ye have a sabbath,a memorial [not a shadow] of blowing of trumpets,
an holy convocation. Ye shall do no servile work therein …”Leviticus 23:23-25).

Here is pictured to us that next blessed event in God’s redemptive plan,
when Christ shall come again, in clouds, with a shout, with the voice of the
archangel, and with the trump of God (1 Thessalonians 4:14-17).

(1 Corinthians 15:52) It shall be “at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound,
and the dead shall be raised incorruptible,and we shall [all] be changed”

Unless Christ returns to resurrect the dead, we would never

The crucifixion was upon the Passover day—the very day! The Holy Spirit came,

And perhaps the glorious Second Coming shall occur,in whatever year it may be,
on this very day of the Feast of Trumpets—who knows? While we cannot say for certain,
call me crazy but yet cannot we see this possibility?

it is also very interesting to me that this should be a practice for the Jews today, and i wonder how long this tradition has existed?
it is a sad and somber thing -- while we see from Nehemiah 8, that when the people greatly mourned on that day of the feast of trumpets, Ezra and all the priests reproved them and instructed them all to celebrate this time with gladness and rejoicing. quite the opposite of the somber mood it invokes, to cast your 'sin' as it were, on the waters, praying that one day the Lord might remove your iniquity.

and most seriously, most importantly for us --
how very very telling that this is the practice of a people who do not know that there Redeemer lives!!
because our God has taken our iniquity away - all cast on the blood of the Son of God, and removed from us forever, at the bottom of the sea, as distant as east from west!
this ceremonial action is one that a person who has been found by Christ and is found in Him can hardly be party to, if they have faith, certainly not in the same way than an unbelieving Jew does this thing.

to the Jew, this action is wishing that the Messiah would come
but we know​ that He has come!!
He has taken us back in love!!
He has more than covered our iniquities, but removed them!!
farther from us than the bottom of the sea, farther then the ends of the universe!!

this ritual, while touching, is sad because it reflects a people who die in their sin, unforgiven from lack of knowledge, from unbelief. it is not appropriate for me, according to my conscience, at least, it has a far greater meaning, looking backward, knowing that the Lord Jesus Christ has done this thing, while the meaning for the Jew is looking forward, hoping that one day He will do it.

praise God!!

and this is all evidence all the more, that this is fulfilled in Christ.
how much greater is the glory of the risen Lord and the Spirit that moves and indwells us!
so much that this shadow we're speaking of here, has no glory at all!

i haven't gone into every painstaking detail of every feast, but in at least one other thread, months ago, i expressed this about certain aspects of other feasts, and expressed that Christ's work fulfilled all these things - back when he still read my posts. these days, finding that he cannot answer the things i try to tell him, he completely ignores me.

which things do you think Christ hasn't fulfilled?

certainly it remains for Him to return and complete the redemption of our bodies, and so we look forward to the culmination of this, but this is a work He has begun, and the scripture talks about it as though it is a finished thing ((i.e. we are seated with Him in the heavenlies, re: Ephesians 2:6)). so while there are aspects that remain to come to pass, for example relevantly here, the judgement, the last trumpet -- this Rosh Hanashah is a memorial of the giving of the covenant, which was a shadow of the new covenant by which we are brought in to Him. it is fulfilled in Christ. and mike here believes the Day of Atonement isn't even fulfilled by Christ -- but goodness! what happened on the cross?? did He not pour His blood on the altar in heaven?? this is certainly fulfilled -- it is the very basis of our faith!!

a full explanation of all these things would take lifetimes, and 'more ink than the seas' to write. but do you think He hasn't fulfilled all these things? what things are lacking? let's talk about those.
