"And the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; so they sewed together fig leaves and made coverings for themselves." Genesis 3:7

God took one look at Adam and Eve and saw their fallen state. Adam and Eve had become conscious of their nakedness and were ashamed. So what did they do? They covered up. Oh how common that is for sinful mankind. Most people think that their facade of goodness is enough. Fig leaves were not good enough for God in the beginning and for sure they are not good enough now.

How could Adam and Eve survive in the hostile environment outside of Eden? They could not, so God stepped in. A creature gave its life so that Adam and Eve could live. We see the salvation of God there and then. What could Adam and Eve have done to save themselves? Nothing.

In order to be saved, an individual must first be convicted that he/she is a sinner. I don't remember meeting anyone who did not think that they were good. Most times, unbelievers present a front to the world that they hope will be accepted. That's why so many relationships fail. No one can keep up appearances indefinitely. One day, the mask slips and the real person is revealed. And that is very often a problem.

Brethren, God is not fooled by our false piety and pseudo holiness. Some of you, as Shakespeare put it, "protest too much". What are you trying to prove? That you have a better set of fig leaves? Because there is only one basis for salvation, and that is Christ. Anything that you add to that great salvation is in reality taking away from it. Grace is grace and independent of works.

You who compulsively react to grace by mixing it with law, works or both have a problem. You are adding to God's finished work that He did through the sacrifice of His Son. You need to ask yourselves why you are unable to accept the simple truth of the gospel.

Believers are born again on the basis of accepting Christ and His finished work through His death and resurrection. There is no work involved. There is no need to promise to do better, or give up a sin, or commit to some religious gymnastics to please God. That's all fig leaves.

Sure, there should be an outworking of the new life that God puts within us. But is the consequence, not the cause. And that is where so many get it wrong. Believers follow a new law, or should. It is the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ Jesus. It sets us free from the law of sin and death. Hebrews tells us to look to Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith. Too many look to their own abilities and talents. You don't impress God or the spiritual people on the forum.

Good article - but the work of Christ is 'death, burial, resurrection and ascension'. I'm pretty sure that you wouldn't deny the Ascension but it's part and parcel of the single work - believers so often fail to go on from the resurrection and live out the reality of being raised up to sit with Jesus.

that be truth, thank you. Now for me I needed to go through under Law first. To see for me "I" am not able to do it perfectly ever. Then saw, see the finished work of Son for me as well as everyone else are able by God for them too.

Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

And God has never failed me, as I have thought had in past. it was a part of growing up, adversities and all. Oh, not that I am grown up, even since God sees me as am. Thank you Father.

Just as the man on the cross with Jesus that repented (changed mind) God saw that man as perfect as he had already completed everything needed to be in. As Jesus said he would be that day
Amazing thank you Father and Son as One (Won)

God did not give His law as a way for us to save ourselves, but rather God graciously teaching us to obey His law is he way that He is giving us his gift of saving us. Jesus saves us from our sin (Matthew 1:21) and sin is the transgression of the Law of God (1 John 3:4), so Jesus graciously teaching us to experience being a doer of it is intrinsically the way that he is giving us his gift of saving us from not being doers of it. So the Law of God does not just reveal our need for salvation but also teaches us the way that God is saving us.

The reason why God gave His law was not in order to teach us how to have false piety or pseudo holiness or how to be good enough to impress Him..

Christ is God's Word made flesh, so it is contradictory to think that salvation is only found in Christ but not in following his example of embodying God's Word. Us embodying God's Word is not adding anything to God's Word made flesh, but rather it is him living through us.

The people in the Bible repeatedly wanted God to be gracious to them by teaching them to obey His law (Psalm 119:29-30, Exodus 33:13, Titus 2:11-13), but you appear to want God to be gracious to you instead of teaching you to obey it and it doesn't work that way.

In Titus 2:14, Jesus gave himself to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people of his own possession who are zealous for doing good works, so the way to accept the simple truth of the Gospel that Jesus spent his ministry teaching and of what he accomplished through the cross is by becoming zealous for doing good works in obedience to the Law of God (Acts 21:20). This is in accordance with the finished work of Christ, not adding our works as if what he did was insufficient.

In 1 John 3:4-10, those who are not doers of righteous works in obedience to the Law of God are not born again. In Romans 8:4-14, Paul contrasted those who are born of the Spirit with those who have minds set on the flesh who are enemies of God who refuse to submit to the Law of God.

Being a doer of good works is neither the cause nor the consequence of our salvation but rather it is intrinsically part of the content of God's gift of salvation (Titus 2:11-13).

In Romans 7:25-8:2, Paul said that he served the Law of God with his mind in contrast with saying that he served the law of sin with his flesh and he said that the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ has freed us form the law of sin and death, so the Law of God is not the law of sin and death, but rather they are opposites. Christ said that man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that comes from the mouth of God, so there are no good grounds for thinking that the Law of the Spirit of Life in Christ is not in perfect accordance with every word that has come from the mouth of God.

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” -- Matthew 11:28-30 ESV

It's a choice to follow the "new law" as you call it. If it's not a choice then we are not acting out of love for the great gift of grace God has given us.

Jesus set a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to the Law of God and in Matthew 11:28-30, he was inviting people to come to him for rest and to learn from him, not inviting people to come to him for rest instead of learning from his example. Moreover, by Jesus saying that they we would find rest for our souls he was referencing Jeremiah 6:16-19 where the Law of God is described as the good way where we will find rest for our souls, but they did not want to walk in it. Do you want to walk in it?

You can wordsmith it all you want, but that doesn't change the fact that you're promoting that the hard yoke and heavy burden for those before Jesus came should continue. Jesus said otherwise.

Why does it make sense to you to think that the way to come to Jesus and to learn from him is by rejecting the example that he taught us to follow and to think that by promoting coming to Jesus by following his example I am promoting the hard yoke and heavy burden?

Again, Jeremiah 6:16-19, describes the Law of God not as a hard yoke and a heavy burden but as the good way where we will find rest for our souls, but they did not want to walk in it and they did not want to pay attention to God's words. Do you want to walk in it? Do you want to pay attention to God's words?

Do these words sound do. you like they are describing a hard yoke and heavy burden?:

Psalm 19:7-11
The law of the Lord is perfect,
reviving the soul;
the testimony of the Lord is sure,
making wise the simple;
8 the precepts of the Lord are right,
rejoicing the heart;
the commandment of the Lord is pure,
enlightening the eyes;
9 the fear of the Lord is clean,
enduring forever;
the rules of the Lord are true,
and righteous altogether.
10 More to be desired are they than gold,
even much fine gold;
sweeter also than honey
and drippings of the honeycomb.
11 Moreover, by them is your servant warned;
in keeping them there is great reward.

The view that the Law of God is a hard yoke and a heavy burden is incompatible with the view that the OT is Scripture and Jesus and the Apostles should not be interpreted as expressing views that are incompatible with the truth of what they considered to be Scripture.

How is it wordsmithing to show that your interpretation doesn't make any sense and is incompatible with the truth of Scripture? In the context of Mark 11:25-30, why does it make sense to think that the way to know God and Jesus is a hard yoke and a heavy burden that he was calling us away from? Where did Jesus say that he was making a change from before to after?

Jeremiah 31:31-34 - The requirements of obedience changed position in Christ. An external written code kills its adherents as no man can keep legalistic requirements. The Jews tried hard enough and, if it could've been done, they would have achieved it.

The new law is written internally. It comes with the presence of the Holy Spirit. If you follow external requirements ('I must go to church', 'I must pray and do devotions before I go out', 'I must not kill') you are not following Christ. You think you can achieve your righteousness and salvation by works.

God imparts His law (not the ten commandments but the requirements of His will), imparts His requirements internally, cleanses us by the work of the cross, rises us into new life by the resurrection to give us the empowerment to obey Him and raises us into the heavenly realm to rule with Christ. The work is God's and His alone.

If you want to live by any external written code, you have not understood the impossibility of self-salvation, you are not following Christ.

If you want to live by any external written code, you have not understood the impossibility of self-salvation, you are not following Christ.
In Deuteronomy 30, it forms the basis of the New Covenant by prophesying about a time when the Israelites would return from exile, God would circumcise their hearts, and they would return to obedience to the Torah, which is what Jeremiah 31:31-34 and Ezekiel 36:26-27 are in regard to where God will put the Torah in our minds and write in on our hearts, and where He will take away our hearts of stone, give us hearts of flesh, and send His Spirit to lead us in obedience to the Torah. In Romans 10:5-8, Paul referred to Deuteronomy 30 as the word of faith that we proclaim in regard to proclaiming that the Torah is not too difficult for us to obey and that obedience to it brings life and a blessing while disobedience brings death and a curse, so choose life! Moreover, there are many examples in the Bible of people who did keep the Torah, such as with those in Joshua 22:1-3, Luke 1:5-6, Revelation 14:12, and Revelation 22:14.

God has not given any legalistic requirements. In Exodus 20:6, God wanted His children to love him and obey His commandments so obedience to God has always been an internal matter of the heart and God has always disdained it when His people honored him with their lips while their hearts were far from Him. Changing the medium upon which the Torah is written from on stone to our hearts does not change the content of what it instructs us to do, for example, the command to honor our parents written on stone has the same content as the command to honor our parents written on our hearts.

In Matthew 4:15-23, Christ began his ministry with the Gospel message to repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand, which was a light to the Gentiles, and the Torah was how his audience knew what sin is (Romans 3:20), so repenting from our disobedience to it is a central part of the Gospel message. Christ also set a sinless example for us to follow of how to walk in obedience to the Torah and we are told to follow his example (1 Peter 2:21-22) and that those who are in Christ are obligated to walk in the same way that he walked (1 John 2:6), So Christ spent his ministry teaching his followers to follow the Torah by word and by example at it is contradictory to think that we are not following him if we follow what he taught.

The position that followers of Christ should follow his example of obedience to the Torah is not the position that we should do that in order to achieve our righteousness and salvation as the result. The Bible supports the former while denying the latter. The content of a gift can be the experience of doing something, such as giving someone the opportunity to experience driving a Ferrari, where the gift intrinsically requires them to do the work of driving it in order to experience driving it, but where doing that work contributes nothing towards earning the opportunity to drive it as the result. We can't earn our righteousness or salvation even as the result of having perfect obedience to the Torah because it was never given as a way of doing that in the first place, but rather it was given in order to teach us what is intrinsically required in order to experience the gift of righteousness and salvation. The Torah describes the life of a righteous person as it describes the life of Christ, so it is what we get to experience being a doer of by being given the gift of righteousness through faith. In Titus 2:11-13, the content of our gift of salvation is described as being trained by grace to do what is godly, righteous, and good, and to renounce doing what is ungodly, so we are intrinsically required to be doers of those works because God graciously teaching us to experience being a doer of them is part of the content of His gift of salvation.

God did not give an external written code for the purpose of teaching us how to save ourselves and leading us away from following Christ.

What you are saying is your interpretation and is incompatible with scripture.
The Psalms express an extremely positive view of obeying the Law of God, such as with David repeatedly saying that he loved it and delighted in obeying it, so if we consider the Psalms to be Scripture and to therefore express a correct view of obeying it, then we will also delight in obeying it, which is incompatible with viewing it as being a hard yoke and a heavy burden. For example, in Psalm 1:1-2, blessed are those who delight in the Law of the Lord and who meditate on it day and night, so we can't believe in the truth of those words as Scripture while not allowing them to shape our view of obeying the Law of God. Moreover, Jesus and the Apostles considered the Psalms to be Scripture, so they should be interpreted in light of the fact that they were in complete agreement with the Psalms, especially because Paul also said that he delighted in obeying it (Romans 7:22).

Do you affirm or deny that Jesus and the Apostles thought that the Psalms express a correct view of obeying the Law of God?

I've shown you how that is. The change is there in the text. You just refuse to see it.
No, you have just insisted that your interpretation is correct without showing any justification for it while ignoring the reasons that I gave for why your interpretation is incorrect.

As I said, if you are following Christ by the observance of a written code (whether Biblically based or man made), you are not following Him at all. Legalism is not the New Covenant.
Repeating your position does not counter what I said or make it any less contradictory to think that we are not following Jesus if we follow what he taught. God did not command legalism. The New Covenant still involves following the Torah (Jeremiah 31:33, Ezekiel 36:26-26.

The New Covenant still involves following the Torah
No, it doesn't. As I said, if you follow the Law, you are condemned by the Law, there is no justification through Christ.
It doesn't matter what argument I would put before you, you would still use the Scripture to support what you choose to believe as many do today.
I say this to the Church's shame that we have been set free from all bondage in Christ and we continually seek to put ourselves back under bondage. We do not serve under Law, neither man-made rules.
This is the end of the matter in trying to help you to see. You seem to need a revelation from God, not reason. I trust that, in the coming days, months - or however much time is left - that you hear His voice and follow Him.
