A wonderful idea would be a forum for christians battling mental health and/or trauma issues such as abuse of all kinds or divorce. So many christians find the church tells them not to seek therapy or take meds and the sense of condemnation this brings can be very isolating

Yeah, unfortunately many people in the church are ignorant of psychology and its benefits if used properly. I love psychology, and use it a lot with people that i post advice for, or friends that come to me needing help with various things.
Psychology is just the study of the human mind. Just like how in the medical field it is the study of the human body. Funny how most people accept doctors, but reject psychologists. Same thing, but just focused on different parts of the body.

While i do think there is an excess use of medication used, in both fields, i know that there are some cases where it is needed. But every other effort should be exhausted first, to find a solution, and meds should only come when there are no more options left, instead of being the first resort.

Therapy is very beneficial, and shows no lack of faith anymore than taking an aspirin shows a lack of faith. The trick is to be cautious who you go to. Finding a Christian therapist, or one that is open to religion is the only issue to work through.

A mental health/trauma forum could be a good idea. But the downside is it would likely attract a lot of critics and people charging in the room preaching peoples lack of faith, or the wrongness of psychology.

Well said. I work in this field and I am a Bible believing Christian, so it is possible :) I also think Paul was the first recorded Cognitive Behavioural Therapist :) having the focus on 'holding captive' thoughts that are not of God, challenging the way we feel...we cannot control thoughts but we can challenge the way they make us feel. Its maybe an idea for such a forum...but as you say, it would have to be monitored well as it would be filled with hurting folks :) <><

I have had to get past a lot of fear and condemnation for having DBT (Dialectic Behaviour Therapy). I recently discovered my therapist is a Christian which is awesome. She very open to discussing with me how my state of mind affects my walk with God and vice versa.

Yeah, i suffered bad depression most of my life. And can sometimes have minor bouts of paranoia. Not as much as i used to. A close friend of mine in CA, when i lived there was a Christian and bipolar. She was really into psychology, and eventually neurology. So we talked a lot about mental illness, and even criminal mental disorders. Was so much fun having those conversations.
