Yeah, unfortunately many people in the church are ignorant of psychology and its benefits if used properly. I love psychology, and use it a lot with people that i post advice for, or friends that come to me needing help with various things.
Psychology is just the study of the human mind. Just like how in the medical field it is the study of the human body. Funny how most people accept doctors, but reject psychologists. Same thing, but just focused on different parts of the body.
While i do think there is an excess use of medication used, in both fields, i know that there are some cases where it is needed. But every other effort should be exhausted first, to find a solution, and meds should only come when there are no more options left, instead of being the first resort.
Therapy is very beneficial, and shows no lack of faith anymore than taking an aspirin shows a lack of faith. The trick is to be cautious who you go to. Finding a Christian therapist, or one that is open to religion is the only issue to work through.
A mental health/trauma forum could be a good idea. But the downside is it would likely attract a lot of critics and people charging in the room preaching peoples lack of faith, or the wrongness of psychology.
