What songs would you want people to sing at your funeral?
Or what song would you want played, to cheer people up, to remind them of you, or your favourite bands/singers, or do you want all songs focused on your Saviour and the promise of the afterlife in heaven? Any particular ones?

Or would you just have peaceful music, and maybe the set hymns of your denomination that everyone has for funerals.

I won't be there, so I'm not all that bothered. Perhaps Gaither's, "Because He Lives, I can face tomorrow"

I have a list, but only lynx would recognize most of the songs. And yes all about heaven and finally meeting Jesus and finishing the race:

That's when I'll know I'm home
Heart on ahead
Going home
Martyrs song
Elijah
This one's with me
If you could see me now

And there's probably more, but the actual list is at home. Also left some original writings along the theme of longing for heaven in that folder.

Lamentations?

By the rivers of Babylon?

Somewhere over the Rainbow?

Or maybe Always look on the Bright Side of Life.

I haven't given it much thought for myself. But then I thought, if people were going to remember me, or say goodbye, as they were mourning/grieving, what would they want to hear? Or sing? Songs of comfort? Songs of joy? Sad songs they could cry to or happy songs that would cheer them up?

As I've been to a few funerals now, I noticed that some like goodbye songs like 'Candle in the Wind' or 'I will always love you' and some like Jeff Buckley's 'Hallelujah'. If they are Irish 'Danny Boy', if they are Maori 'Por Kare Kare Ana' or 'Now is the hour'. If it was a tragedy it would probably be 'My heart will go on' and if they died too soon it might be 'tears in heaven' or 'one sweet day'
Christians tend to go for 'Amazing Grace' 'How Great thou Art' and 'Jesus loves me' (if they taught Sunday School)

My dad just played his favourite recording he heard when he met my mum. We didn't have to sing, it just played over a photo montage. It was 'Rose, Rose I love you'

Am not planning on dying anytime soon but we aren't guaranteed tomorrow. One caregiver friend had her client die, he didn't want a funeral, so she couldn't mourn with others. He didn't die while she was there, he went before she could get there. I think having a song helps.

'Goodnight sweetheart, it's time to go' is a nice swan song, but would probably be something to sing while dying or to someone as they are dying? Or before they go to sleep, which is how many people think dying by going to sleep is whats meant to happen.

Not everyone at your funeral will be Christian, but many Christian songs that everyone knows are uplifting and give hope that you'll see the departed again, if you choose to believe. Some are a testimony to the faith of the loved one.

Am not sure about the Hillsongs though.
I do remember Glorified was sung at one churchmates funeral. I like that one.

no funeral for me. but if i was having a funeral, definitely, i would have Brandon lake's Gratitude song playing .

I wonder if the recently departed hang around long enough in the spirit to witness their own funeral?
I think it would be interesting to see how my body was buried, and that people were gathering to say goodbye to me.

Or burned up in flames...I probably wouldn't have a choice in how I go. Preferably laid to rest, I could curl up into a ball to save space in the graveyard/cemetery.

"Wade in the Water'
"Get Happy'
'My love is your love'
'People get ready'

If I wanted people to go with me. I mean...dying alone is scary for some. At least with Jesus, he had two others crucified with him. At hospital it's often people are dying with you.

'Love is all Around' (if was dying in bed, or to reassure people I haven't gone, my spirits still there to help)
'I have a dream ' (to comfort people as they sleep, and maybe dream of me visiting them to say goodbye)
'I'll never find another you' (people are gonna miss me?)
'I'll be missing you' (if I was shot dead)
'A song for you' (Karen Carpenter always knew what to sing) or maybe 'Sing' to cheer people up.

I guess it depends on the way you go, if people wanna remember you, or they are too sad, or maybe, they are happy you are gone and want to celebrate your (or their) freedom

ABBA 'thank you for the music' but probably not cool with non-fans of ABBA, and you can't truly sing the lines if you aren't blonde and female, unless change the lyrics.

If the lyrics were not appropriate, maybe I'll just have the melody with no one's singing, kind of in the background. Or as they say 'elevator musik' and if I knew any muscians, that could play the harp or the panpipes or something like that. Piano is fine, but I don't know about the organ or having a brass band or a drumkit. Or bagpipes.

Not everyone has a barbershop quartet but I wouldn't mind if they sang 'Slice of Heaven' in harmony.
