At funeral yesterday for garden club lady it turned out to be like requiem mass at an Anglican Church and most of us members had never been to one before. It was 3 hours long, and there was incense, and priests in vestments, and holy water, church organ playing etc. They also had eucharist! (communion) where you went up into the chancel and got down on your knees and drank from a chalice and had a wafer fed into your mouth. (I didn't partake, though everyone was invited - there would be refreshments after the service)
They had hymns which I didn't really know but had the words/lyrics printed on the service sheet. Psalm 122 and other scriptures, the beginning chapter of gospel according to John ...
The songs/music chosen that we didn't have to sing was Andrea Bocelli, Sarah Brightman, and one song about being still in love with a lovely guitar that was played over a slideshow photos.
Of course I had been to some 'high church' Anglican services before but never any funerals that follow that set order like that and it was hard for unbelievers to handle, esp those not used to how traditional churches do things. 3 hours sitting in a wooden pew is too long for many people.
