Jesus says that only the Father knows when the 2nd coming will happen. I did not know that GOD would hide information from 1/3 of the Trinity. What am I missing here?

Welcome to Christian Chat denny1953. The Father is not hiding anything from His only begotten Son. The Son, who is God in flesh, (John 1:14) became a man.

It's explained at Philippians 2:5-8. "Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus, vs6, who, although He existed as God (or in the form of God) did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped. vs7, but emptied Himself, taking the form of bond-servant/human being and being made in the likeness of men. vs8, And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross."

What this means is that instead of clinging to what was rightfully His, (because He was God) He emptied himself. What did He empty Himself of? He "DID NOT" empty Himself of His divine nature. He "DID NOT" cease to be deity for a short period of time. In other words, God cannot cease to be God. Nor did He divest Himself of His attributes.

He divested Himself of the prerogatives that belonged to Him. In other words, He emptied Himself of the "EXPRESSION" of deity, not the "POSSESSION" OF DEITY. It's also important to note that His emptying was voluntary. He had to do this in order to take upon Himself the essential attributes of a servant/human being. And as a human being of course He would not the day or hour of His own return. Does that make sense?

IN GOD THE SON,

Hello @denny1953, since I see that you are a new member, I thought that I should start off by saying, welcome to CChat :)

As for your question concerning Jesus' limited knowledge (in Matthew 24:36/Mark 13:32), I believe that this limitation was true from the Incarnation to the Resurrection only, as the Bible tells us that He temporarily set aside certain aspects of His Divine nature when He lived among us as a man so that He could truly be like us in His dependence upon/obedience to His Father/His word, as well to the leading of the Spirit, as He walked through this life as one of us, doing for us what we had failed to do for ourselves by living a perfectly righteous life before His Father (to make it possible for us, by the Lord Jesus' righteous life and death on the Cross in our stead, to be declared both innocent AND righteous by the Father and be justified/saved by Him through faith .. e.g. 2 Corinthians 5:21; Ephesians 2:8-9).

Philippians 2
5 Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus,
6 who, although He existed in the form of God, did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped,
7 but emptied Himself, taking the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men.
8 Being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.

While I believe that this is most likely the case (that Jesus chose to restrict His omniscience from His birth to His resurrection), the Bible never tells us that directly, so it remains one of the secret things of God/a mystery .. cf Deuteronomy 29:29, and we need to treat it as such.

I believe the most important thing that we need to takeaway from these verses (including Acts 1:7, where He no longer excludes Himself from possessing this knowledge, BTW) is what these verses do make clear to us, that we should ALWAYS be prepared for His Parousia, as if its happening is imminent, because we will not know the year/day/hour of its happening until it is already upon us.

God bless you!

p.s. - and again, welcome to CChat.

1 Thessalonians 5
23 May the God of peace Himself sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body
be preserved complete, without blame at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
24 Faithful is He who calls you, and He also will bring it to pass.

Hello brother (@bluto), sorry about posting what you did again (at least in part). I started my reply but had to leave. When I returned, I finished it and posted it w/o checking the thread for other posts first.

Yours was an excellent post, BTW :) My reply would have been much shorter if I'd read yours first.

God bless you!

How do we know that Jesus was even telling the Truth? In another piece of Scripture, we find that Jesus lied to His "brothers" when He told them that He wouldn't be attending a specific festival. However, after his "brothers" left His presence, Jesus attended anyway.

John 7:8, 10 NLT - "You go on. I'm not going to this festival, because my time has not yet come." ... 10 "But after his brothers left for the festival, Jesus also went, though secretly, staying out of public view."

other ancient authorities add "yet" the KJV says "yet."

Maybe whilst he was a man on this earth and had to learn and study like normal man he did not know but now as the risen Christ seated at the right hand side of God he knows of this time when he is to return.

Jesus said to them, “The Father is the only one who has the authority to decide dates and times. They are not for you to know.

The Father simply has not decided when the second coming will happen. Jesus was speaking as a man on earth.
It is likely he as God knows the when.

When Lord Jesus came to earth it was as a man. He chose to divest Himself of all that made Him God. He did not stop being God, He just chose to live as if He was not God. So, as man, Lord Jesus was subject to God. He prayed and asked God to do what Lord Jesus could do if He chose to. He said that He did nothing of Himself and also that He said nothing of Himself.

Lord Jesus is risen, is highly exalted with the name above all names. He is now restored to the glory that He has before His incarnation. He is no longer merely a man, He is God and knows everything, including when the time is right for His return.

I think Jesus fully knows when God will say NOW! The context of that statement was known as the doctrine of Kenosis prior to His death and resurrection. The man Jesus the Spirit of Christ emptied Himself, and while on earth prior to the death, burial, and resurrection He Jesus completely relied on the Holy Spirit and did nothing without the leading of the Holy Spirt. Once Jesus was Glorified and ascended He knows all

Are you "hiding information" from the rest of your body because it
does not know when something is going to happen until you will it?

Jesus thought it not robbery to be made in the flesh for a time.
Although He is God, He was just as you are I for a time so that whe He judges, He will be fully righteous and qualified in the sight of His creatures.
Therefore, as a man, , it was not given to Him to carry that knowledge of the hour and the time, so He too would live on faith, just as we must.
He did it all jusst for you, me and all. All glory to Goe, amen.

It is so hard to wrap your mind around it. How did he empty himself of all knowledge and then have to live by faith knowing the end??

He was born and lived perfect and perfectly. He was forn with fiath. He knew the Father., yet to satisfy the weakness of mankind He did not know certain aspects while He walked our plain. Just as we, once we come to Him know we hav reward worthy of all works and suffering, so He the same knew.

Paul taught that Jesus was the full representation of the Godhead, but only in bodily form. God is so incredibly and utterly Powerful, that the simple Power of God cannot be contained within a human body, and if fact, the human body cannot endure the actual, full presence of God Almighty. Therefore, elements of God must have been removed from Christ, such as the overwhelming Power that IS God. Jesus seemed to be able to live like a normal man, but only because that sense of Raw, Almighty Power would need to have been removed, or at least restricted in some way.

Colossians 2:9-10 NKJV - "For in Him dwells all the fullness of the Godhead bodily; and you are complete in Him, who is the head of all principality and power."

but doesn't the Holy Spirit dwell in us whom is the power of God and we get the whole of him not just parts or percentages??
