Once, when I was getting back home from work, I had ditched my car and was very despondent over something.

I was deeply contemplating God, my life and I just felt that there could be nothing truly good to look forward to. It was a very dark moment and it's just such a big mess I would rather not elaborate.

When the auto-rickshaw I was in came to a stoplight, I saw a bunch of young girls with candles on the other side of the road.

One girl hopped across the road and made a beeline straight to me. She was still holding a candle but she had a really sweet smile on her face and she handed over a pamphlet to me.

It was about "World Suicide Awareness Day" and there was a lot of information about suicides, depression and also a lot about hope and life.

I was surprised to receive it and though I would never attempt a suicide, I felt very touched. It was like the exact opportune moment- an epithet that there is hope despite what my mind was saying.

It was like in spite of the dark gloom in my head, God had reached out to me to say in a simple gesture to say "He cares for me. He loves me." through the hands of a young girl.

Perhaps it is just coincidence as my non believing friends would say, but I definitely felt it was of God and I am sure He does it all the time.

It has made me see life in a new way and to feel so much safety that despite this cruel world, God reaches out to us through small gestures, friends and maybe even angels.

Sometimes even people who don't believe in Him.

One time, one of my staunch atheist friends who travels the world in a very fast paced, jet setting job sent me a text when I was quite upset over something but was just quietly stewing in it.

He was on a trip to Macau and Hong Kong and had to leave very, very soon for something but the text was like "Hey. Are you upset right now? "

I was so surprised and taken aback so I had to ask why he would send that. He simply replied "I had a strong feeling you were."

So we ended up talking and my friend, with his matter of fact existential philosophy succeeded in comforting me but what was more sweet to me was knowing that how in the exact opportune moment God could find ways to reach out to me.

(I am also blessed to have friends who care so much about me)

My friend himself, would never accept that it was something brought upon by God but I just know that with God there are no mistakes and no coincidences.

If you have any, could you share? I love knowing how God interacts with His people. He is just so mysterious .

Rachel, I love how the Lord reached out to you in ways that you couldn't deny! I've had several occasions where this has happened for me. The most notable for me was once when my car wouldn't start. I've shared this story here before, but it deserves another telling anyway, ha.

My daughters and I were in a parking lot late at night trying to get home from the grocery store. The car wouldn't crank, the lights wouldn't come on, nothing. The battery seemed completely dead. I told the girls that we were going to pray about it. So we all closed our eyes to pray, and just as I began, the inside lights all came on. I hadn't touched anything. Had not tried to start the car again, or pressed a pedal or pushed any buttons. The car lights just came on by themselves. I finished my prayer but my heart was beating very fast and I felt like something amazing was happening. When the prayer was finished, I started to crank the car, and it started up perfectly. We drove home, and never forgot. :)

Almost a decade ago, I was praying over someone who had attempted suicide and was comatose, not expected to recover without an organ replacement. I felt led to read scripture over her... and bounced through the Psalms, reading the ones I sensed a nudge to read. One of them was Psalm 41. As I read verses 1-3, I sensed that these were a promise from the Lord... "Blessed is he who has regard for the weak; the Lord delivers him in times of trouble. The Lord will protect him and preserve his life; he will bless him in the land and not surrender him to the desire of his foes. The Lord will sustain him on his sickbed, and restore him from his illness."

Well, reading that as for a 'her' rather than a 'him', I prayed something like, "Lord, I choose to believe this as Your promise. I will not doubt as Zecharaiah doubted. However, it would be lovely if you confirmed it."

The next day I arrived later at the hospital. At that time a pastor friend was just coming out of ICU with a bible in hand, fresh from visiting this same gal. We greeted, and he said he had felt led to read some scriptures over her. He opened his bible and said, "I felt especially led to read Psalm 41:1-3." I just started laughing and praising God. Her parents thought I lost it... seriously! But they were pleasantly shocked when she awoke from her coma ten days later, and was fully recovered (medically) within three weeks.

Sometimes, "Coincidence" just doesn't say it. :)

That's one of the most beautiful things I've heard in months.

I would love to contribute, but I'm not single and shouldn't even be here...

Just kidding of course...
