It is quite evident from Pauls writings that he is referring to the Platonists and even goes so far as to mock their wisdom saying it is foolishness:
1Co 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God. For it is written, He taketh the wise in their own craftiness.

This is a blatant mockery and is meant to be painful. It hurts someone much more to be called a fool when they are full of pride and think they are intelligent. Just as those who thought they were wise were called fools by Jesus, Paul calls the learned men of his time fools. As we have shown the learned men were in fact Platonists. Further evidence that Paul was referring to the Platonists can be seen in verses were Paul expounds on this type of wisdom:
1Co 1:20 Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
1Co 1:21 For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
1Co 1:22 For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:

hmmm

God's foreknowledge is not as the anitchrist followers would tell us, that some of it is knowledge gained by Him merely foreseeing future events, but His foreknowledge is Knowledge based on the certainity of His Predeetermined immutable will or purpose, and so His Own Will and Purpose is the source of His Knowledge of all events that cometh to past, as James Preaches here Acts 15:18

18 Known unto God are all his works from the beginning of the world.

God having determined all things is the source of their existence and His Own Knowledge.

Folks its nothing but blasphemy and atheism to say or even think, that God foreknew or foresaw that Adam would sin and bring the consequences thereof into the world, but yet He did not will for it to happen as it did to the exact; and anyone thinking like that should not call themselves a Christian or child of God, for they are a disgrace to that worthy Name and His Truth ! God created this World by wisdom, His Own Wisdom Prov 3:19

The Lord by wisdom hath founded the earth; by understanding hath he established the heavens.

Ps 104:24

O Lord, how manifold are thy works! in wisdom hast thou made them all: the earth is full of thy riches.

The antichrist, by saying that God gained Knolwedge of an event done by His creature, that He did not determine, are actually teaching us that God was taught knowledge Isa 40:14

With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?

Thats the blasphemy we have in man made religion today !1

Here it is again folks, the "believe different than me and you are a heretic" attitude! (Ironically, Calvin had somewhat the same attitude when he ruled over Geneva).

I never understand why Christians can't just accept that other Christians have different views on election, foreknowledge, and predestination instead of cursing each other because we have different interpretation of Scripture.

Whatever happened to the "Simplicity of being in Christ?"

God's Foreknowledge !

The Omniscience All Knowing God cannot know anything that His Knowledge of it did not originate from within Himself, if this were not true, He the infinite immutable being gained knowledge and instruction by mutable beings, with a mutable existence; Hence His Omniscience in part was helped along by His creatures, and not solely upon His Own Will and Purpose, but in the mutable contingencies of His creatures, who evidently knew what they planned and purposed to do before God did !! What Blasphemy !

Hence God's foreknowledge consists only in His absolute Knowledge of His own immutable will, to say anything else is the epitome of blasphemy !

There's a difference between knowing all things and knowing His works.

If God ordained all things, wouldn't that mean sin?

Actaully, it seems to me that you're position would be closer to blasphemy? If one sins he is a sinner, if one makes another sin he is a sinner. If God ordained all things including sin then that would make God a sinner, and that surely can't be.

What scripture says that ? That's a atheist statement !

What is the alternative?.
It is, God did will Adam to sin, Which makes God the author of sin and the suffering that goes with it.
But the truth is, God didn't will that Adam would sin.

7 I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the LORD do all these things
To understand the Bible, You need to know when it's God doing the talking, When it's a Biblical character talking and when it's the translator rightly or wrongly translating the scripture.

If scripture doesn't fit in with the rest of the Bible, Then it wasn't God who said it.

God said He saw everything that He made, And it was very good, Gen 1: 31.. NOT BAD OR EVIL.

We know God created light and darkness [The night time] and peace, And we know God didn't create evil.

You have to take the Bible as a whole, Not isolated scriptures.

2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, note

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you, note

5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time

Fine but then you cant say in the same breath that God is sovereign (complete control) over his creation.

I have had this conversation before on CC, you cant have it both ways, either God is not ultimately sovereign over all His creation OR God is sovereign and with that the author of sin/evil/suffering for some greater good.

In my opinion, it seems that the bible supports the latter, however there are verses which say God is not the author of evil and does not tempt us. You can explain those away but at face value I consider that an internal contradiction or at best an error in scripture.

Sovereignty doesn't mean complete control it means supreme authority. I don't know how Calvinism came up with that definition but it's not what the word means.

America is a sovereign nation yet the government doesn't control everything that happens within it's borders.

God is sovereign, But in His sovereignty He has put His will in His word, [The Bible].
God' isn't sovereign the way some people think, For instance He isn't in complete control, He is only Lord of them who let Him be Lord.
When God created man He gave us authority, Gen 1: 26, KJV says dominion, another version says, "Masters of all life".
God can't just come and make man do something that they don't want to do.

We know by the 1000 year reign of Jesus, what it will be like when God is in compete control, At the moment the devil is the god of this world.

Does it occur to anyone that the foreknowledge spoken of in the Word is when we come to Him in repentance and He forgives us our sins, telling us all will be just fine? Of course He also foreknew us each when He personally created each one of us, breathing life into us, for nothing else, no one else did or could.

When His Holy Spirit came into me, He foreknew me, that is to say before the Kingdom to come. He did actually say to me when I repented of this world and age, that is I turned from the creation to give glory to the Creator, our Father, He said, "Everything is going to be just fine." He foreknew me, and I praise Him for this, amen.

Saved God g
Has complete control but must let the occurenses happen as they ought like satam in heaven , God let him run a muck all over and gave choice that they listen or allow themselves to be deceived the end result will be the same on earth in the end everyone will show fruit whether it is good or bad , God foreknew for God is omnipotent and omniexistent time does not bear rule over Him for He is God beginning and the end has been there done that sees us as He already knew us its just us that dont understand How thi+gs work but i only share what God has given me..

It is written only He that comes from above only understand the heavenly things , in context man is but limited to His own knowledge His existance only what He has seen and experienced has heard and been shon , onxe in a lecture we were discising whether man was trully intelligent . But the issue was intelligence consisted more than mere ability to retain knowledge or the ability to spekak does not make a person inrelkigent intelligent thought requires alot of thinking of prosessinng the attai.ed knowledge to make trully intelligent desicions . In all that man does not prosess thought in general like in that manner but that man thinks synapticly , doesnt take time to really think every thought every word or see whats around him evenbut , God is trully intelligent and all knowing.

Good afternoon, Saved by Grace,

That is a great screen name, but is it gracious to say the above? Blasphemy and atheism? Blasphemy and atheism to struggle over the doctrine of predestination? I think not. Predestination and election are Bible facts which good Christians may figure out differently. If a man trusts the Lord Jesus as His Savior, he is born again, a child of God, and has eternal life. Now satan is the accuser of the brethren.

The antichrist, by saying that God gained Knolwedge of an event done by His creature, that He did not determine, are actually teaching us that God was taught knowledge Isa 40:14

What is your proof of that?

"What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who is against us? He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how will He not also with Him freely give us all things? Who will bring a charge against God’s elect? God is the one who justifies; who is the one who condemns?"

Are you bringing a charge vs the elect because they don't interpret election as you do?

Foreknowledge is a significant topic, though it was started wrong here with false accusations and blasphemies of persons, not supported by scripture. Election and Predestination are true Bible concepts, which are hard to understand, and about which believers disagree. Instead of slinging accusations, let us consider the subject from the Word of God.

In Romans 8, foreknowledge comes first in the list and ends with glorification, as an unbreakable chain of God's work:

"For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to become conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the first-born among many brethren; and whom He predestined, these He also called; and whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified."

I suggest that the thread starter post all the references in the Bible to foreknow, foreknown, foreknowledge, foreknew, and the like.

Thiessen's Systematic Theology was written by a man who believed in eternal security, yet also used foreknowledge and common grace to explain election. The common grace explanation is to postulate that God has given enough common grace to all unsaved men so that they are able to believe. God knows who will believe and on that basis chose or elected them to salvation. (I am not advocating that POV.)

A great Bible teacher taught me years ago that foreknowledge did not refer to objective knowledge of the future in election passages, but mean that God in eternity past entered into an intimate relationship with the elect. He explained this from the "pregnant" meaning of know, like Joseph knew Mary his wife, and Amos saying that of all nations/peoples, YHWH only knew Israel. (The same great teacher spent two days of classes answering all questions and objections to unconditional election, which he espoused.)

However, that teacher's explanation of foreknow was defective; not for necessarily giving a wrong explanation of foreknowledge, but for giving inadequate proof. The Hebrew word for know in Amos cannot readily be used to prove the meaning of a compound word in Greek, which is not "know," but "foreknow." So if you prove that know can mean to enter an intimate relationship, this does not prove that foreknow means that. It is like trying to prove what "understand" means based upon meanings of under and stand. If know can mean intimate knowledge, that does not prove that foreknow means that.

What I would like to see is anyone coming forward and demonstrating that foreknow
προγινώσκω,προγιγνώσκω in classical Greek,

has ever been used in Greek (prior to the NT) for anything other than objective knowledge of the future. If anyone has such instances, kindly post them.

BTW, it does not bother me to read disagreements on election; but it does bother me to see persons blaspheming each other over different explanations of this doctrine. Railing accusations are likely to be sinful in any case.

And give heed to Hezekiah 9:6:

"Thou shalt not shoot cannon balls at canary birds."
