Very good point!
Besides, the main reason for the dietary laws was to keep HIS Chosen People away from the Pagan Feasts that frequently ended up in drunken orgies. REMEMBER a Jew was considered defiled if he so much as set foot into a gentile's house. The secondary reason was due to the lack or refrigeration, it protected them from animals known to carry major diseases of the day. HOWEVER, THE MAJOR REASON REMAINS, to keep the race pure UNTIL Messiah could come from the Line of DAVID. Don't you think Satan had a very active part in using those Pagan Feasts to tempt God's People in so that he (Satan) could pollute the race so that Messiah could not come purely through the line of DAVID as planned?
When GOD wanted the Two Peoples to become ONE (Jews and Gentiles); GOD Himself ended the Dietary Laws, otherwise Peter would have had to REFUSE to go into the house of Cornelius.
Acts 10:10-16 (NASB)
[SUP]10 [/SUP] But he became hungry and was desiring to eat; but while they were making preparations, he fell into a trance;
[SUP]11 [/SUP] and he *saw the sky opened up, and an object like a great sheet coming down, lowered by four corners to the ground,
[SUP]12 [/SUP] and there were in it all kinds of four-footed animals and crawling creatures of the earth and birds of the air.
[SUP]13 [/SUP] A voice came to him, "Get up, Peter, kill and eat!"
[SUP]14 [/SUP] But Peter said, "By no means, Lord, for I have never eaten anything unholy and unclean."
[SUP]15 [/SUP] Again a voice came to him a second time, "What God has cleansed, no longer consider unholy."
[SUP]16 [/SUP] This happened three times, and immediately the object was taken up into the sky.
THAT barrier Peter mentioned in verse 14, extended even to entering a gentiles house because unclean animals were consumed there. It would have PREVENTED Peter from even going to Cornelius' house. HENCE AFTER GOD ENDED THE DEITARY LAWS, GOD INSPIRED PAUL TO SAY:
Lemme see here...
Act 10:17 Now while
Peter doubted in himself what this vision which he had seen should mean, behold, the men which were sent from Cornelius had made enquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate,
First of all it was a vision. Secondly, Peter's reaction was not to run downstairs and order up surf and turf with a shrimp cocktail appetizer.
It was not readily apparetn to Peter what the vision meant. He didn't assume it made all meat clean to eat.
1 Timothy 4:4-5 (NKJV)
[SUP]4 [/SUP] For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be refused if it is received with thanksgiving;
[SUP]5 [/SUP] for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Now you emphasized the "nothing is to be refused" part, but what about the part that says this?
for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.
Where do we find the meats that were sanctified?
Lev 11 and Deut 14.
This does not contradict what God said about nothing passing from the Law because nothing did.
I know that about now, those who disagree with me are thinking, but that contradicts what Jesus said about not one jot or tittle shall pass from the LAW. AND that is TRUE, unless GOD Himself gives us an EXCEPTION to that rule.
Has Jesus not been our High Priest ever since the beginning of the Church?
What Tribe is Jesus from? Correct, He is called the Lion of the Tribe of Judah!
Then the Priesthood changed from the Tribe of Levi to the Tribe of Judah, didn't it?
Hebrews 7:12-14 (NASB)
[SUP]12 [/SUP] For when the priesthood is changed, of necessity there takes place a change of law also.
[SUP]13 [/SUP] For the one concerning whom these things are spoken belongs to another tribe, from which no one has officiated at the altar.
[SUP]14 [/SUP] For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, a tribe with reference to which Moses spoke nothing concerning priests.
Heb 7:4 Now consider how great this man was, unto whom even the patriarch Abraham gave the tenth of the spoils.
Abraham tithed to the High Priest Melchisidec, not the sons of Aaron (they did not exist yet).
Heb 7:5 And verily they that are of
the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people
according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
According to what Law did they receive tithes from the people? This one?
Lev 13:59 This is the law of the plague of leprosy in a garment of woollen or linen, either in the warp, or woof, or any thing of skins, to pronounce it clean, or to pronounce it unclean.
Of course not. Paul (I beleive the writer of the book is Paul and will continue to refer to him as the author) here is speaking to the Law which gave the Priesthood authority. It is nonsensical to take verse 12 out of context and apply it to the entirety of the Ten Commandments and the Book of the Law.
Heb 7:6 But
he whose descent is not counted from them received tithes of Abraham, and blessed him that had the promises.
Notice here we are talking about heredity, not the Law about eating blood.
Heb 7:7 And without all contradiction the less is blessed of the better.
Heb 7:8 And here
men that die receive tithes; but there
he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that
he liveth.
Referring back to Melchisidec receiving tithes of Abraham and that He is now alive evermore.
Heb 7:9 And as I may so say,
Levi also, who receiveth tithes, payed tithes in Abraham.
Heb 7:10 For he was yet in the loins of his father, when Melchisedec met him.
Heb 7:11 If therefore perfection were by
the Levitical priesthood, (for under it the people received the law,) what further need was there that
another priest should rise after the order of Melchisedec, and not be called after
the order of Aaron?
Heb 7:12
For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law.
Now right about here let's ask ourselves what is being discussed in this passage? DNA, heredity, the Priesthood and who could be a Priest...
Num 18:1 And the LORD said unto Aaron, Thou and thy sons and thy father's house with thee shall bear the iniquity of the sanctuary: and thou and thy sons with thee shall bear the iniquity of your priesthood.
Num 18:2 And thy brethren also of the tribe of Levi, the tribe of thy father, bring thou with thee, that they may be joined unto thee, and minister unto thee: but thou and thy sons with thee shall minister before the tabernacle of witness.
Num 18:3 And they shall keep thy charge, and the charge of all the tabernacle: only they shall not come nigh the vessels of the sanctuary and the altar, that neither they, nor ye also, die.
Num 18:4 And they shall be joined unto thee, and keep the charge of the tabernacle of the congregation, for all the service of the tabernacle: and a stranger shall not come nigh unto you.
Num 18:5 And ye shall keep the charge of the sanctuary, and the charge of the altar: that there be no wrath any more upon the children of Israel.
Num 18:6 And I, behold, I have taken your brethren the Levites from among the children of Israel: to you they are given as a gift for the LORD, to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation.
Here is the Law that was changed, not done away with, notice it was changed? What part of it was changed?
Heb 7:13 For he of whom these things are spoken
pertaineth to another tribe, of which no man gave attendance at the altar.
Heb 7:14 For it is evident that
our Lord sprang out of Juda; of which tribe
Moses spake nothing concerning priesthood.
The Law was relayed to the people through Moses. The why of that is another thread topic.
Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident: for that
after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Heb 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.
Heb 7:17 For he testifieth, Thou art a
priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
Heb 7:18 For there is verily a
disannulling of the commandment going before for the weakness and unprofitableness thereof.
Now what Commandment went before concerning the Priesthood? Num 18. Why was it weak and unprofitable?
Heb 7:8 And here men that die receive tithes; but there he receiveth them, of whom it is witnessed that he liveth.
Heb 7:15 And it is yet far more evident: for that after the similitude of Melchisedec there ariseth another priest,
Heb 7:16 Who is made, not after the law of a carnal commandment, but after the power of an endless life.

Means fleshly, human, temporary. The human fleshly Priesthood was limited, but Christ (the High Priest after the order of Melchisidec) is unlimited. He is God. Thayer sheds more light on the meaning here...

Heb 7:19 For the law made nothing perfect, but the bringing in of a better hope did; by the which we draw nigh unto God.
The Law concerning the Aaronical Priesthood made nothing perfect, the only sacrifices they could offer were animal sacrifices...
Heb 10:1 For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect.
Heb 10:2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? because that the worshippers once purged should have had no more conscience of sins.
Heb 10:3 But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year.
Heb 10:4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.
Heb 10:5 Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me:
Heb 10:6 In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin thou hast had no pleasure.
Heb 10:7 Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.
Heb 10:8 Above when he said, Sacrifice and offering and burnt offerings and offering for sin thou wouldest not, neither hadst pleasure therein; which are offered by the law;
Heb 10:9 Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.
Heb 10:10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
Heb 10:11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:
Heb 10:12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;
Paul wrote the book of Hebrews to the Hebrews to help them understand and accept the change of the Priesthood from the Aaronical, levitical Priesthood to that of Jesus Christ. To the Gentiles, this was not a big leap, they had not been raised under the Levitical Priesthood and it wasn't a part of their life from birth. To the Israelites, this was very difficult to understand how a Priesthood that had established by God and had been in place almost 1500 years could be changed*.
*Note: The Law is changed, not done away with. Christ is now the High Priest. Christ is the one who GAVE the Law and will not compromise with it one iota. To replace the Aaronical High Priest, He changed the Law (He actually changed the APPLICATION of the Law) because He would not and will not violate it.
