Heb 7:5 And verily they that are of the sons of Levi, who receive the office of the priesthood, have a commandment to take tithes of the people according to the law, that is, of their brethren, though they come out of the loins of Abraham:
According to what Law did they receive tithes from the people? . . .

Malachi 3:8 (NKJV)
[SUP]8 [/SUP] "Will a man rob God? Yet you have robbed Me! But you say, 'In what way have we robbed You?' In tithes and offerings.
People complain almost every time a Pastor mentions tithes; which a tenth of your income.
That is actually in my opinion the starting point, and if God blesses you with more you should give more, in my opinion.
So how much of their income were the Jews paying in tithes? It was actually 23 1/3 percent each year, PLUS whatever the Romans wanted.
You forget that Israel was a theocracy, therefore there were three tithes. One was due to support the Temple and Synagogues, Another was due to support the running of the Israeli government, which was done by the Temple, and the Third was due every three years, but most paid it a third of a tenth each year; and it was like our Social Security because supported the elderly and widows. OFFERINGS were that which was given ABOVE AND BEYOND the tithe, such as we might give to the building fund today, or a special collection to help a member of the congregation who is facing huge medical bills.
