GOD'S WORD vs. man's opinion like GWHs.

Paul did not discourage speaking in tongues. Try reading the whole of chapter 14.

1Co 14:5
I would that you all spoke with tongues, but rather that you prophesied: for greater is he that prophesies than he that speaks with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.

1Co 14:13
Wherefore let him that speaks in an unknown tongue pray that he may interpret.

1Co 14:18
I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than you all
1Co 14:27
If any man speak in an unknown tongue, let it be by two, or at the most by three, and that by course; and let one interpret.
1Co 14:28
But if there be no interpreter, let him keep silence in the church; and let him speak to himself, and to God.

1Co 14:39
¶Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

Every verse in 1Corinthians 14 can be viewed as discouraging babbling, although verse 39 permits tongues when interpreted.
And nowhere else in his epistles including Ephesians does Paul encourage glossolalia.

Exactly, but at least you wasted words on your thread rather than mine, so I thank you for that.
You have never shown why you are not wrong but rather mainly ranted, like in this post.
Look in the mirror when you make accusations.
I both keep things simple (Accept Jesus as Messiah and Lord) and elaborate or explore various doctrines per Heb. 6:1-3.
I answer with the same question Jesus asked in Matt. 21:25, and you will not answer because you ignore Matt. 3:11 & Gal. 5:1-12.
May you learn to be Aaah! instead of Ouch (2Tim. 4:6-18)! Happy trails!

You are a liar and have been explosed, you have so much pride you don't seem to mind.

You can fool some men here on earth but JESUS knows everything.

Best of luck.

I don't mind because I consider the source.
IOW, you have exposed yourself.
So Yesterday!

So Yesterday!

So tell me what part of me did I expose of myself?

Did calling you a lie hurt me, for telling the truth?

You should mine, you should OBEY JESUS, repent, get baptized in JESUS name to get rid of your sins and pray to JESUS to fill you with HIS SPIRIT. You will speak in tongues.

IT'S NOT TOO LATE.

I guess I wasted my time starting the thread.

I don't think it was a waste of time. Groovy says you wasted your time on him and no surprise considering he appears to be contradictory to scripture and conflates passages and the moment he finds out a person believes in scripture he dismisses, then he has no more time for them. Truly, a person has every right to ask what his purpose is and I would guess he is trying to gain members to his Paul only cult among other things.

This is a forum and not his personal teaching platform. So, no one is wasting their time starting threads especially since he tells people to go start their own thread. I would not start another thread at his bequest since he is not a mod and he does not own this forum. He does not get to universally dismiss any all questions and just carry on like he is in charge. The whole thing is nonsense as far as I can see and he calls people 'ilk'. Very Christian. This is not my first tour here and the main reason I left before is because of the nastiness, name calling and bullying and so far I have come across 4 individuals who excel at such things.

If this is a microcosm of Christianity, then I would say no wonder that people scoff and want nothing to do with Christ, seeing His supposed followers acting the way they do and accusing one another like the devil himself. I am pretty sure all these bold big mouths would not dare act that way in church, should they actually be going to one.

I am not defending the poster you are accusing. I am calling you out on your behavior and words that do not demostrate someone who is convinced (in their own words) of God's love. You had better believe God's love is in fact what gives us chance after chance but once we physically cease to exist here, no more chances. We should all examine ourselves as good ole Paul tells us to do and David in the Psalms.

5 Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test! II Corinthias 13: 5 and Peter states the same in II Peter 1: 10-11
10 Therefore, brothers,[a] be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Are you above it all? Have you arrived? Are you somehow 'teaching' from heaven after having been translated? Take heed that you are not the accused while telling everyone else they are guilty of your charges.

Ditto, and I am not deceived.
You are indeed defending the one accusing me of lying.

Well are you lying? I never said you were deceived but interesting you bring it up

I do think you are a gaslighter but not as good as you think you are. And more drama for dramas sake.

Just so we are on the same page.

Why did I call you a liar?

In the past we were debating scripture, but you could not stick to scripture you had to add your own twist on scripture.

In doing so you are totally disrespecting the author of the scripture which is JESUS.

At first, I KINDLY asked you to back up what you said with HIS word.

This all took place LONG time ago, as you fail to do so and still do today.

I then told you if you don't back it up it's a lie from Satan.

You still did not answer and told me to start my own thread and then you would.

I did and you still did not back up what you said with HIS word.

You are more then welcome to have your own opinion but it DON'T TRUMP GOD'S WORD.

What you said.

1. Spirit baptism REPLACED water baptism.

2. Being filled with the Holy Ghost means YOU ARE FILLED WITH LOVE.

3. Being filled with the Spirit and speaking in tongues was for that time and was perverted by some into a faux gift of mere babbling.

Is a lie from Satan.

You have had so many opportunities to prove yourself not a liar, or just admit you are wrong but you wish to stay in your sins.

If you don't want to be called a liar STOP LYING.

YOU are deceived and trying to get others to follow you deceiving them.

You still have that choice, it's not to late.

Repent, get baptized in JESUS name and pray for JESUS to fill you, you will make a good fisher of men.

Why do you omit v. 19? "I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue."

I was watching your back and forth with him, I like your style.

I was wating to see if you had the same issues I did with him, you did.

It sure seems like it was a waist of time in gwh's case, BUT GOD may have him blinded for a reason?

I was just chalanging him so he would look for the aswers, it didn't work out so well so I went for the knock out puch and called it like it was.

I for sure am not perfect and can be crud, I have no tack.

One thing I know is GOD loves us all the same, we all have issues and can learn if we are humble.

Thank you.

My reason for posting on CC is simply to share my fallible faith with others, hoping they will find what I have learned helpful for understanding ultimate truth. I am grateful to all people—famous philosophers and anonymous acquaintances—who have helped shape my beliefs. I believe reality is interconnected or unified, so that it is not necessary to worry about where to start exploring, but I will begin by asking the following philosophical question: Is there some truth which is not debatable; which everyone believes at least implicitly and uses as a common point of departure in discussing ultimate reality?

I think there is such axiomatic truth, because in order to study reality it appears that one must (logically or implicitly) begin by assuming at least the reality of the student. Thus, absolute skepticism in philosophy is like absolute zero in physics: it serves as a hypothetical point that is not actually achieved or else nothing would happen (even in ice :).

An “ism” affirms some valid part of reality. The truth represented by skepticism is that finite human beings cannot know absolutely, infallibly, perfectly or objectively. I find this truth expressed by the apostle Paul in the NT book of 1Cor. 13:9&12, “We know in part . . . We see but a poor reflection” (as in a fogged mirror).

The element of uncertainty does not prevent would-be skeptics from talking as if knowledge with some degree of confidence were possible the moment they attempt to communicate their doubts. An agnostic has “certain” assumptions at least implicitly: that truth is believable, rational and meaningful, even though unprovable or subjective.

These three affirmations seem to be a priori truth or unavoidable (beginning) beliefs:

1. Truth or reality exists. The classic expression of this belief was by Rene Descartes (d.1650): cogito ergo sum: “I think, therefore I am” (cf. Rodin’s sculpture; thinking is believing). The OT says in Exo. 3:14 that God is “I am” (the essence of existence).

2. (Objective) reality is subjectively known by seekers. David Hume (d. 1776) was a notable proponent of this opinion, and 2Cor. 5:7 expresses this truth by saying, “We live by faith, not by sight” (or proof, cf. 1Cor. 13:9&12 cited previously).

3. Reality is meaningful and communicable or able to be discussed rationally in fellowship with other truthseekers. As Isaiah 1:18a (c.735 B.C.) says, “Come now, let us reason together.” Perhaps whoever invented language should be regarded as the founder of this fact, because the discussion of reality uses language as the means, and in order to communicate sufficiently for attaining agreement or unity, it is necessary to have a common language and cultural context. (I hope that as Earthlings using English these needs are met for you and me:)

Over...

Thank you, me reason for posting on CC.

Is to share the gospel and maily how to be reborn because,

2 Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

After we have be reborn, then we can speak of what colors the trees are.

You can only find how to be reborn in the book of Acts since letters after that were to those who have been reborn with the foundation of the book of Acts.

Acts 10:34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

GOD loves us all the same and what's us to follow HIS rule book.

Romans 3:23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;

John 9:31 Now we know that God heareth not sinners: but if any man be a worshipper of God, and doeth his will, him he heareth.

As we can see, if we what GOD to hear us we have to get rid of our sins.

How do we do that? The ONLY way recorded is Acts 2:38, 22:16.

Of course we also need JESUS to fill us with HIS spirit.

The purpose of my Kerygma thread is to delve more deeply into GRFS or how to satisfy God’s condition for forgiveness of sins that is indicated in Scripture by the word “IF” (e.g., Rom. 10:9), which is the fulcrum of faith, implying the ability either to cooperate with God or not (e.g., Deut. 30:19, Matt. 23:37) or MFW. Note that the choice is binary: God’s Way to heaven or the highway to hell.

The OT indicates that God chose the Jewish culture for the purpose of providing Messiah, through whom the world would be blessed or saved (Gen. 22:18, Isa. 42:6, 49:6, Joel 2:28& 32, Mic. 4:2-3, Zeph. 3:8-9, Zech. 2:11, 14:9&16), and the NT proclaims that Jesus of Nazareth is the promised Messiah or Christ (Acts 2:36, Rom. 1:1-4, Heb. 1:1-4, 3:3-6). It is tragic that the person God has ordained to be the head of one worldwide body of believers (JN 17:20-23, Eph. 1:9-10 & 3:6, Col. 1:18-20, Phil. 2:9-11) is rejected by so many who claim to be theists. And it is ironic that this gemstone, which is the foundation and cornerstone of ultimate reality (Eph. 2:20), is the stumbling-stone (1Pet. 2:6-8) to faith in GRFS for many souls (1Cor. 1:22-25). Messiah/Christ is the key stone.

A crisis that threatened a Philippian jailer with death prompted him to ask Paul and Silas the most important question in life: “What must I do to be saved?” (Acts 16:30) This question is most important, because—as sinful and mortal souls—we need saving from corruption, both moral and physical. We need saving from physical death if we value or enjoy life, and we need saving from immorality or evil-doing if it results in unhappy existence, especially after this lifetime.

The reply of Paul and Silas was this: “Believe in the Lord Jesus.” (Acts 16:31) This is GRFS in a nutshell. Jesus Himself expressed GRFS even more succinctly using three, four and five letter words: “Ask… seek… knock…” (Matt. 7:7). This indicates that God graces every sinful soul with the ability or opportunity to seek salvation (cf. 1Tim. 2:3-4, Ezek. 33:11), which might be called “seeking grace” (Tit. 2:11). As Hebrews 11:6 states: “he [God] rewards those who earnestly seek him” (cf. Isa. 45:19). Seeking God is the beginning of saving faith, and not seeking God or rejecting His salvation in Christ is the essence of evil atheism or faith in I-dolatry (Rom. 3:11, 1:18-23). All humans sin, but every sinner has the opportunity to repent/have saving faith (per Rom. 1:20, 2:7, 3:21-22, 4:16 & 5:8-19).

Thus, sinful humanity retains the image of God or moral free will, so every normal adult soul is able by faith to choose to seek salvation–or not (cf. Deut. 30:19). That is why Paul went “every Sabbath to the synagogue, trying to persuade Jews and Greeks” (Acts 18:4)! “He witnessed to them from morning till evening, explaining about the kingdom of God, and from the Law of Moses and from the Prophets he tried to persuade them about Jesus.” (Acts 28:23b) “Some were convinced by what he said, but others would not believe.” (Acts 28:24) “They disagreed among themselves and began to leave after Paul made this final statement: The Holy Spirit spoke the truth to your ancestors when he said through Isaiah the prophet, ‘You will be ever hearing but never understanding; you will be ever seeing but never perceiving, for this people’s heart has become calloused.'” (Acts 28:25-27a, cf. 2Tim. 3:7)

Regarding the human heart, we can see that it is “deceitful… and beyond cure” (Jer. 17:9) when it becomes calloused (cf. Matt. 23:37), but the uncalloused heart is enabled to seek salvation and find God (per Matt. 7:7 & Heb. 11:6). God’s enabling of seeking is not irresistible, it does not pry open a hardened heart, and it does not continue forever (Rom. 10:10-13, Heb. 3:12-19).

Why do you omit v. 19? "I would rather speak five intelligible words to instruct others than ten thousand words in a tongue."

Sounds pretty discouraging to me.

Paul says that speaking in tongues in an assembly is not edifying unless someone in the assembly interprets the tongue, in which case it is equal to prophecy and it becomes edifying. Paul says that in an assembly the meeting should allow two or three to speak publicly in tongues, But if there is no interpretation forthcoming, attendees should be instructed not to bring any more messages in tongues, but pray quietly to God in tongues and pray for an interpretation, which they can then bring as a prophecy in the lingua franca.

In this context Paul says he would prefer to speak five words of prophecy in the lingua franca that all can understand then 10,000 words in an unknown tongue that no one understands. That seems reasonable. But it falls well short of Paul discouraging speaking in tongues. He finishes by saying, "Do not forbid speaking in tongues." You seem to want to forbid speaking in tongues., the opposite of what the Holy Spirit enjoins through Paul.

You do not give proper weight to the fact that nowhere else in his epistles does Paul encourage speaking in tongues.
I forbid nothing, but I find babbling unimpressive, and pagan religions practiced it as a way to communicate with the gods, including some that predate Christianity by centuries, which may be what Paul came to realize after writing 1Corinthians 14.

In post #174 I began explaining why faith in God as revealed in the Bible and especially the NT is the best belief or hope for salvation, which is the topic in my Apologetics thread, and post #176 stated the purpose of the Kerygma thread, which is to focus on the Gospel of Christ and explain the Christian creed. The main purpose of this post and Lesson 3 of our website is to explain how humanity can experience and fellowship with the Holy Spirit of God/Christ, which correlates and coincides with learning God’s Holy Word. Achieving this goal requires systematic study of various biblical doctrines and NT books, including the Holy Spirit, Prayer, Romans and Ephesians, [See the introduction to Lesson 1 for a list of abbreviations.]

The OT Shema (Deut. 6:4) teaches that God is one, and the NT also affirms that there is one God (Eph. 4:6, 1Tim. 2:5). However, the NT teaches that the one God relates to believers in three ways simultaneously: as the Father, as the Son and as the Holy Spirit (HS). God as the heavenly Father is indicated in Jesus’ model prayer (Matt. 6:9), throughout the Gospel of John (John 3:35, 5:17-18, etc.), and in the epistles of Paul (Rom. 4:11, 8:15, Phil. 2:11). God the Father and Christ’s Sonship are discussed in Heb. 1:1-4. The Son of God also is mentioned by John (John 1:14, 3:16, etc.) and by Paul (Rom. 1:4, Gal. 2:20, 1Thes. 1:10). The Holy Spirit is mentioned in three successive chapters in John (John 14:26, 15:26, 16:13), frequently in the book of Acts (Acts 1:5, 2:4, 9:17, 13:2, 19:2), and in many of Paul’s letters (Rom. 8:4-26, 1Cor. 6:19, Eph. 4:30) as well as in some of the other epistles (2Pet. 1:21, Jude 20).

The triune God’s “persons” may be distinguished by role: God the Father as creator or initiator (Gen. 1:1), God the Son as Messiah or mediator (1Tim. 2:5), and God the Spirit as indweller (Rom. 5:5). For example, 1 John 4:7 says love comes from (is initiated by) God (the Father), Gal. 5:22 says that love is a fruit of the (indwelling) Spirit, and Eph. 3:18 speaks of the (mediating) love of Christ (Rom. 5:8, Eph. 2:18). We can denote these distinctions by the use of three prepositions: God the Father is over all creation (Eph. 4:6), God the Son is Immanuel or with humanity (Matt. 1:23), and the Holy Spirit is within all believers (Eph. 1:13). A single passage that comes closest to indicating this distinction is Eph. 3:14-19, in which Paul prays to the Father that through His Spirit of love Christ would dwell in believers’ hearts (also see 1Cor. 8:6).

A study of the HS might well begin with the statements of Jesus in the gospel of John. In John 14:16-18 Jesus said, “I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever—the Spirit of truth… [who] will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you.” This indicates that the indwelling Spirit is how Jesus enters the hearts of believers as they open the door and invite him in (per Rev. 3:20). Jesus mentioned the Spirit again in John 15:26, saying “When the Counselor comes, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father, he will testify about me.” And yet again in John 16:13-14 Jesus said, “When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. He will bring glory to me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.”

We see in these passages an identification of the Spirit with truth or the word of God, which we also find in the OT, such as Isa. 59:21b, “My Spirit, who is on you, and my words that I have put in your mouth will not depart from your mouth, or from the mouths of your children… forever, says the Lord.” And also in Ezek. 36:26-27, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you… I will put my Spirit in you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.”

My understanding of Scripture is fallible and might be wrong, but that is NOT "lying" as Ouch and others in his camp (aka ilk) ignorantly accuse.

Repenting can't help you.

Matthew 12:31-32

31 Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.

32 And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come.
