In every year there are high points and low points. What are some of the best things that have happened in your life in 2011? What might you have done differently given the opportunity?

This has, more or less, been my wilderness year. I have had a series of great disappointments that turned into blessings and back into disappointments (in some cases). Nothing terribly disastrous happened in the grand scheme of things, but there are memories and lessons I will carry with me into eternity.

I have learned that dedicating yourself to one thing can often mean the exclusion of others. Sometimes knowledge or confirmation of that exclusion is a joy.

I have learned that the education I am paying for has little to do with what I'm actually learning in the classroom and more to do with handling the situations around and beyond the classroom.

I have learned that friendships you question are not friendships at all.

I have learned to appreciate one's ability to maintain perspective and see the big picture whilst one is in the weeds.

I have learned that some things are simply non-negotiable, and that God will test us by putting us in situations in which it seems permissible to negotiate.

I have learned how my intellectual snobbery does not free me from my ingrained middle class status. :P

I have learned that it is better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all... even though I have not definitively lost...yet.

To that same end I have learned that there are situations one's rational side vows they will never get into, and the heart will drag them into it anyway.

I have learned a good deal about political strategy.

I have learned that the times in which I work for a truly great and beautiful human being will be rare but worthy occasions.

I have learned never to trust local polling.

I have learned that sometimes the right man loses to the wrongest of men.

I have discovered my own propensity toward hyper-affection and loyalty after someone or something runs the gauntlet that is my inclination toward rational thought.

I have learned that retrospective analysis isn't a substitute for truth as it was experienced at the time. Don't confuse the two when talking with people.

I have learned that there is still much to learn.

I learned never to eat cheese then try to drive when your lactose intolerant.

I learned screaming whilst having an anxiety attack wont make it go away

I learned screaming in the middle of walgreens isnt a good idea :D

I learned that just because one Macys doesnt have the color converse you want, there is no shame in driving around to ten others until you've found them. (Unless you've just eaten an excessive amount of cheese)

I learned hitting my computer when its frustrating me, is a very... veeeery bad idea

I learned that i have no idea how to use punctuation

I learned that God can change anyone.

I learned no matter how bad a situation is it can always get worse

I learned never to say COULD THIS POSSIBLY GET ANY WORSE!!!!

I learned that im totally obsessed with this website

I have learned:

That I'm never going to be comfortable with people complimenting me on the way I look.

That I have probably already met the man I love that God wants me to be with, and I'm only going to frustrate myself and hurt other people if I'm not willing to wait until the time is right.

That I'm okay on my own for now.

To be wary of guys who try to isolate you from your friends.

That God is faithful to protect us from jerks if we're paying attention and don't rush things.

How much I would love not to have to be leader of the pack, particularly in a relationship.

That many people see me as my parents always did: the strong dependable one that everyone else can rely upon. I often feel as though I am not permitted to make mistakes, be vulnerable, get upset or bleed red like other people. It's....unreasonable.

That some people think the way they look gives them a license to use and abuse other people.

I've learned, like Ritter, what friends are and what they are not. One-sided friendships are not friendships at all. A true friend is someone you would immediately miss if they fell off of the grid because they are there for you as much as you are for them.

That I LIKE being my age.

That wisdom is often hard won.

How precious children are.

How fleeting life is.

How thin the line is between life and death.

That no matter how difficult it might be, I will never regret doing what God says is the right thing.

That the good guys often take a beating, but they persevere.

That, despite all appearances, evil does not go unseen.

That I tend to take many things upon myself that God never intended me to carry.

I learned that if you have even one friend who sticks by you when it seems like the world has turned against you, you are truly very blessed.

And that the most important thing in this life for me is to feel appreciated and loved. Thank you to each and every one of you who've been so nice to me here. I really can't thank you guys enough. When the day comes that I disappear from here...I want all of you to please remember that YOU made a difference in somebody's life, mine.

God bless.

I have learned not to sweat the small stuff..

I have learned that not everyone thinks like I do or does things as I do.

I have learned that I am who I am because of who God is.

I have learned that my teenage daughter is giving me gray hair...ugh!!! I love her though, she is great!!!!

I learned to appreciate the family of God and the leaders that God places over us.

I have learned that no matter what I have done or could do Jesus still loves me.

I have learned the need to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I have learned that I am a letter read by many and that my life needs to truly reflect what I profess as a follower of Christ.

I have learned that without Jesus I should probably be dead.

I have learned that I like me.

I learned that:

Jesus IS the savior of the world

God has plans for my life even when I don't see any possible good outcome in a situation

God IS there and will ALWAYS be there

That grades do not define who I am

Opening up to people can be VERY beneficial

Talking to my parents IS most definitely a smart thing

One should never underestimate girls' invisible powers

I haven't learned anything, except that I must just be THAT hardheaded! Just kiddin' I'll post after I put something together.

i learned a lot of stuff, especially to avoid certain things and to turn to jesus for help

I learned it sucks to be unemployed from February to December, and the punctuation thing Nod mentioned.

A few things that I have learned in 2011:

- Unconditional love heals broken hearts.
- Taking instuction is in fact very wise, thanks Solomon!
- It is ok to admit that I was/am wrong.
- Compassion does exist in me.
- My family will always be there, even when everybody else has abandoned me.
- When you hit rockbottom, that is a good place to start with a new, unshakable foundation.
- I learned that Christian Chat is the most bestest chatsite EEVERR!

Hello ,how are you?

A few more things learned in 2011:

- Drinking excessive amounts of alcohol does in fact drown your sorrows; along with you and everything else in your life.
- We reap what we sow
- God is more merciful than I could have ever imagined.
- My worst day with Christ is better than my best day without him.

-I was reminded that I have a terrible memory
-I can't remember anything else....

lol ok ok

-That every moment I get to spend with my daughter is an absolute blessing
-That no matter how many times I say it, until I ACTUALLY give up control of EVERYTHING to God, I won't have complete peace.
-Not everyone will like me but I can choose to love everyone.
-I learned that Christians are more judgmental than non-Christians about single motherhood and that makes me very sad.
-I learned that forgiveness is SO important in healing and that un-forgiveness and bitterness can eat away at your life.
-That God can heal all areas of my life.
-The details DO matter to Him. ALL of the details.
-That serving others is definitely my calling and gifting.
-That chickens are dumb.
-That teaching a stubborn 2 1/2 year old to walk is not a piece of cake.
-and that saying goodbye to my best friend is not fun.

I'm sure there are more things but for realz.....I don't remember. lol

OH! and that LOVE is amazing. God's love. Covers a multitude of sins and can do so many miraculous things. He IS love after all so I guess that makes sense. :D and I've learned more what loving someone means.

This is good stuff you guys :) I'm really enjoying all of these posts!

Well right now Im heading to sleep, so I cant list all the things that happened or I learned from 2011.. Not too much and a lot of things at the same time happened to me this year... Things I might have expected and things I had never imagine that would happen.. but thats the beauty of it all no? One thing I'd like to mention and I'm grateful it happened to me this year is that I got baptized. Of course it was something beautiful to experience, but for me it was more of a reconfirmation and a testimony for all the other ppl to see what and Who I believed in. (And we are all called to get baptized anyways so yea..) Only now that I am thinking back to that day on March of this year, I can realize that actually that event in my life served as a balance to other events to follow (which were not so pleasant and very tough and hard to experience - mom got really sick).. My faith, my God and my church ppl (and all of you CC friends!) have been the source of my strength.. But at the same time all this has served (and its still serving) for God's glory, for His higher purpose for so many ppl who know my situation. Yes I have been weak too but had great sisters and brothers in Christ on my side to lift me up with the Lord's comforting words. So one thing Im glad to have experienced (despite the tough circumstances) is witnessing the body of Christ! It's been amazing to see it nonetheless! And I've learned that without Christ the Lord its impossible to face life's giants...of any kind. Im grateful for meeting lots of GREAT friends in here! Very special ppl indeed! God bless you all and continue to keep Christ the focus of your lives! (Im feeling sleepy now. lol. I'll prolly write more later.. Good night!) :)

And Jullianna thanks for the wonderful thread! As always!! ♥ love ya!
