Greetings, I’m a 53 year old catholic-veteran from Virginia and recently learned that my wife is leaving me after 26 years of marriage, and three amazing kids (22, 18, 16). I’ve had my head down working hard my entire life striving to be a good father, husband and provider for my family. I allowed my work and financial stresses to blind me to the severity of my wife’s state of depression and emotional distress.
Now we are in two different places – she is done and ready to move on – while I was blind, but now I see and I am committed to honor the conviction of my vows and unconditional commitment.
“If you love something – set it free…”
I have no choice at this point but to ‘set her free’ praying that she will eventually recover from her depression and find her way back home to my welcoming arms. The realist in me recognizes that she is so far gone at this point that she may not fully recover from her depression (she has suppressed all of our good experiences and all of my good characteristics; fixated only on the negative) – worried that once she leaves the house she will never look back.
She is currently living in the basement, with endless number of friends and social escapes/outlets to aid her during her transition (she is rarely home). Soon, I will be all alone with our 16 year old son, and new puppy. Hoping that this forum may serve to help me during my coping period…
