What do you MEAN buy candy? They're not even trying this year! Do you know how many boxes of dark chocolate truffles I found? ZERO! All we have available this year is the same old heart shaped boxes of mixed chocolates, from various brands, of various qualities.
Bleh. Valentine's Day used to have really good chocolates. Now they don't even try to make anything good.

That's why you should learn to make your own truffles. And then when you realize how messy that can be, you should get a small ice cube tray or candy mold to pour the truffles filling into to harden. Because really truffles are all about how delicious they taste, not how pretty they look.
Hmmmm. Now I kind of want to make my own Valentines day truffles.
My grandmother does make homemade truffles and they do indeed taste delicious... and are indeed very messy.
Ice cube trays would make rectangular truffles, which would be less mess and taste the same, but they would cause questions about the shape. At least I think people would question it. Do they not even notice the shape when you make truffles?
Also what do you use in truffles? My grandmother uses dark chocolate cake and peach jam, mashed up and rolled in a ball, then dipped in chocolate.

I'm a truffle purist. Dark chocolate and cream and a little vanilla and that's about it. Though someday I'm going to add some cinnamon into the mix because I personally think chocolate and cinnamon is a wonderful combination. And someday I might find a way to incorporate some PB. The possibilities are close to endless. I also know how to make chocolate covered oreo cheesecake balls, but I don't really consider them proper truffles.
