Does anyone have lifestyle, medical, natural, spiritual and diet tips on dealing with Hashimoto's Autoimmune that does not involve going Paleo and completely getting rid of wheat? I've done a lot of research the past few years and have a lot of answers but still sick with Hashi's.

Reducing sugar really does help. I also see a chiro and massage therapist regularly and that helps a lot.

Yeah, cutting sugar should help. Sugar seems to be the number one inhibiter of our immune function. May I ask what kind of Chiropractor you see? One who concentrates on spinal realignment often seems to do more than a joint-popper.

I have a friend with Hashimoto's. She is super focused on every twinge she experiences, and has enough medicine to sink a ship, and enough information to fill a library. I'll contact her.

I like to cook from scratch and sometimes eating Paleo style doesn't work for our family. I will try to add more meals to be Paleo that I can though. We have kids and my husband is a vegetarian. No grains is not easy to do all the time. Especially since one doesn't eat meat and we have kids. Cutting carbs in general is a goal as well as the sugar. I can tell how much better I feel with the right kind of carbs and little sugar, that stuff is really poison. Thank you for the well wishes! :)

I too have so much research under my belt and I see a Holistic M.D. who guides me. I see a Chiro that practices the Cox technique. No alignments but movement and mobility of the spine. I used to have one that did the works and it was great but I can't go there anymore. I would like alignment as well as the mobility so I am considering splitting the visits to get both done. As for medicine, I only take one medicine. I do however take enough supplements to fill my stomach as a meal!

Can't take iodine it makes the symptoms worse. I take Cod liver oil, Vitamin C, both in high doses for the antioxidant effect, selenium, probiotics, mineral drops, magnesium, zinc and sometimes iron. As well as digestive enzymes. All of course under doctors direction.

I am going to try acupuncture next week!

As for diet, I would love to be a vegetarian one day but I think that is not feasible with this disease.

Why are you against taking Synthroid? I've been on it for 17 years, my mom for 50 years, and my daughter for 10 years. I forget how long my sister has been on it.

No side effects ever. Just being normal. And I do believe in eating naturally, organically and healthy. I grow my own veggies, and where I have moved, loads of organic fruit. But it has never helped my autoimmune system get better.

Now if Rheumatoid Arthritis was as easy to treat as hypothyroidism!

I take nature-throid it is a prescription, I like it better than Synthroid. I don't just have hypothyroid. Some people have simple hypo. I have autoimmune where my body attacks its own cells and tissues and thyroid. I wish I had simple hypo that can be treated easier.

Oh! Sort of like RA attacking my body? Hmm, I had thought that is what my body was doing to my thyroid. I got diagnosed with both RA and hypothyroidism at exactly the same time, and was told my body was attacking itself in both cases.

Maybe I need to talk to my doctor, again?

I hope you can find a way to control this. I can't take the natural thyroid medicine, because I don't eat pork. I think that is the one you are talking about?

Nature-throid is dessicated thyroid in the T3 form...no conversion. Synthroid is T4 needs to be converted. I don't convert it well.

Oh, yes it is, that makes sense if you don't eat pork.
You can have an antibodies test done to find out.
Your body probably is attacking itself! The symptoms of all these things overlap too.

My aunt has Hashi’s, and my mom, grandmother and another aunt all have thyroid disease…I was just referred to an Endo. Have you had your adrenals checked and cortisol monitored?

Peace

Referred for testing? Did you get an antibodies test?

No.......I am supposed to. The doc has asked me to for about a year now. I pay for much of my healthcare out of pocket (enough to buy a decent car) and that saliva test he said was like $500 so I always push it off... Blood tests on that are not a good way to tell. The one or two times I did test in the AM they were on the low side. Apparently that is not enough info to treat it as he showed me the several types of swings and needs to know my pattern. I suspect adrenals are an issue, as does he, but nothing will be done until I take that plunge. Thanks for the reminder. That could hugely affect quality of life.

I saw an Endo for a while but they were reluctant and gave me a hard time about desiccated thyroid hormone. I am glad I found a Holistic MD. They never suggested adrenal testing or other associated things. Healthcare may be different in Canada though. I didn't think adrenal testing was mainstream. Either you (or your fam) did your research or Docs there are open to more than Big Pharma.
