It's quoted often. What does it look like in practical application? Are there feelings attached with it? What does this look like for you? How is it done?
 
I'm gonna say for me in/as a form of practical application in my own personal life,it's just being real with God and then allowing yourself the freedom He's given you to be what you are,and share that with other's. To look to the Lord and say..."Ok,this is all I am..all I have...all I want or want to be or desire...It's Yours! Making God,or I should say letting God be the main root & foundation of who I am. I think there are feeling's sometimes. God gave us feelings & emotions for a reason,but the key is not to let them control you...control your every single move in life. It's a constant thing of daily just seeking Him in whatever ways you do,and giving Him that 1st place in your life to be able to lead & guide.

I see so many people who maybe even themselves don't see or think that they exemplifying what is described in Luke 10:27...but WHOA! I So totally see it in them. They aren't perfect,and I am not putting them on a pedestal,but you can see their hearts are certainly seeking God...open to Him...just by their love for other's and the Spirit behind their words.

For me,that is such a blessing & encouragement & gives me hope. It makes me want to seek God more as well. It's inspiring...it's the domino effect that the power of Christ has on us by His love for us.

I dunno if I really answered the question in a way that makes sense,because my mind kinda gets all spazzed out,but ummm..yeah...Great Thread Rachel! I am interested in seeing what other's share. :)
 
Well, when you love something with all of your heart, believe that is the center of your feelings. It is the understanding and emotional appreciation of character and nature of God. It is the passion for that relationship with Him, and how it manifests itself in you.


I believe the Soul is the Moral Essence of a person. It is WHO you are. It is your choices and the alignment to obedience according to how God has prescribed us to conduct ourselves. It is the ethical center of our being.


You strength is your physical exertion. Your actions, your work, your effort and your body. This is the very demonstration of the love we have, by what our hands do about what we believe is true.


Your mind is the intellectual center of your being. It is the grand central station of all thought processes that occur within a person. It is source of the curiosity, the reasoning, the understanding and the knowledge of all that we comprehend from our senses.



To use, our heart, soul, mind and strength in the service of our faith is to devote every resource that God gave us to glorify Him.

[Don't have places in your heart that you are unwilling to surrender to God. If you do, those things can become little gods to you. They steal blessings God has for you and can lead you away from Him (Sometimes those "things" are people that we put on pedestals above God. If you do that, you will probably lose them or yourself.).]

and with all your soul

[I need to surrender myself to become more like Him and less of what I have been. I need to yield to the Holy Spirit and be led/taught by the Spirit. It is the Holy Spirit Who helps us understand and live out the Word of God obediently. We can't do it on our own. This is the behavior of a child of God. Romans 8]

and with all your strength

[When I don't "feel" I can go on, can't serve or when I feel like throwing in the towel, I need to keep my eye on the prize and, as Paul said, finish the race. I need to remind myself that His strength is made perfect in my weakness. People are watching us. When we hold onto Him, walk through the fire and come out the other side, the glory is His. When I am struggling, many times it is because of something I'm doing/not doing/need to surrender/need to learn. The more I do the things I know I should and cease doing the things I should not, the stronger I become, regardless of appearances. I think this may be why some precious 90 lbs elderly Christian ladies are among the mightiest warriors of the kingdom I have ever known.]

and with all your mind

[Not my will, but His. Not what I want, what He wants for me. Not what I think is best, but what He knows is best. 1 Cor 2 says we have the mind of Christ. The wisdom of the ages is right there for us, but so often we leave it laying on the table and have to learn the hard way.]

Well, our devotion, our adoration, our focus and thought process should always be God, to bring glory the God, or at least include God in all that we say, see, hear, think, love and do. :)

For me, it's all about giving up certain things and laying down your life for God. Like, there may be selfishness in my heart . I want this. I want that. Why can't I have this? (I'm not too selfish of a person, to be honest. I almost can't be, because it will make me physically sick to think I'm taking advantage of someone or get my way all the time. Don't ask me why, because I don't know)

When you have that kind of attitude, it doesn't leave room in your heart or mind for God. And you need to let those things go, or else you're not loving God with all you have.

I'd have to think about what exactly they mean by soul. Strength, I think means actually doing stuff, and not just sitting on the couch while eating chips. The bible talks down about laziness, and the bible says faith without works is dead. Soo.

I guess iTOREtheSKY and Jullianna said it very well as much as I wanna put it. iTOREtheSKY clearly touched on how this will set you free cuz you are no longer bound with your own needs and desires, but rather with what God wants you to be as a perfect person in Him. So you will be free and A LOT better person as you are now cuz you will submit yourself to God who will work with you and make you like His image.
 
I have a good quote from the Puritan William Law about Luke 10:27,

"The measure of our love to God, seems in justice to be the measure of our love of every virtue. We are to love and practice it with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength. And when we cease to live with this regard to virtue, we live below our nature, and, instead of being able to plead our infirmities, we stand chargeable with negligence."
- William Law, A Serious Call to a Devout and Holy Life, Chapter 3, pg 22

I've been thinking about these questions all evening, and I keep drawing a blank; I don't have a clue what it looks like, how it feels, to love the Lord that way.

I have faith- I pray- and I can see God at work in my life. Not just how He's worked in my past, but now, and I think...I think...I can see a very vague image of where He's taking my future.
But that's not loving Him.

I find myself, more often than I care to admit, trying to keep God at arm's length. Trying to do things right in my life on my own, going about my days trying to get everything under control and barely sparing a thought for the One who blessed me with my children, the One who knew me before I was born.

I can't remember the last time I felt any kind of passion for what I believe in, any kind of fire burning inside, any excitement about belonging to Jesus.

I don't understand how I can be so completely empty of those things, and yet be so certain that God is trying to lead me somewhere. I don't understand how, if I am not obeying Him and loving Him with all my heart, my soul, my strength, and my mind, He is still so very present in my life.

I know that's not what you asked about...but that's just where my mind wandered off to, after reading this thread.

The way I see it
it is not about us
Its not about ourSELF
The bible was not written to glorify US
God is not here to serve US even though many people think that because he came as a servant thats what he still is.
That was his example for how we must be to the Father as he was to the Father.
How the church must follow Christ, if we Obey him because we Love him.
But we are here and the bible was written to train and instruct us to Glorify God even as his Holy Angels do and and are not here to glorify themselves.
We are asked to empty ourSELF

To be a sacrifice FOR him in return for the sacrifice he made for us.
Not to be continually asking him to be the sacrifice for us
Die to our SELF
all of it
Only then can he fill us up with him until we are overflowing.
Because if we're still hanging on to those pieces of ourSELF we are not leaving enough room for HIM.

I think if there's a feeling attached to it, I'd say it's discomfort. When the thought of saying something or doing something (for the cause of God) makes you very uncomfortable (your flesh crying out)...and you still choose to do it anyway (putting your flesh unto submission), whatever the consequences? No compromise? THAT'S what I'd call practical application of Luke 10:27. When you love God more than what that action will cost you in a situation? You are showing you love God with every fiber of your being, no matter the cost.

I'd say practical application is real sacrifice (loss), in whatever form it takes in a person's life. If you willingly commit to any personal loss, for God, you've shown great love.

Abel and the lamb
Abraham and (potentially) his son
Daniel and (potentially) his life
Isaiah and his life (as well as other prophets)
The rich man and his wealth (would've been)
Christ and his life
The Apostles and their lives

...and in certain situations...

You and your reputation
You and your friends
You and your family
You and your money
You and your job
You and your personal time or rest

...any sacrifice you commit to God that would be a real loss to you as far as the world (or your flesh) is concerned, is - to me - when true love for God is applied.
