Sorry to answer your same post three times, but what? Do they even show The Beverly Hillbillies in Canada? I would have never guessed. Regarding old films, have you ever seen "Citizen Kane" or "To Kill a Mockingbird"? Those are two of my favorite oldies, along with "The Robe" and "Ben Hur." "Citizen Kane" really left an impact on my life, even though I didn't understand it until the last few minutes of the movie. No spoilers. I promise. 🫢
no i have not seen citizen Kane i will add it to my list! i did see to kill a mockingbird like when i was younger maybe 16 i really enjoyed it though it reminded me of a movie (i don't remember the name but it basically everyone is a jury member for a murder case and the main character won't change his mind - ugh I have to figure out the name later, i saw the play too).

I will have to watch the robe and ben hur is on my list too, i just need to really settle down when it comes to movies, i want to be able to relax and melt into it - thanks for the suggestions btw!!!

and yeah I think we do get some channels with Beverley hillbillies but i actually found it for free online (like on you tube) along with petticoat junctions I am a sucker for that stuff, i wasn't like born when they were coming out, but there is something safe and nostalgic about them anyway. I can't wait to watch the movies you listed (it's more fun when someone recommends lol)

I think fav movie for oldies is actually dragonwyck, it is a bit darker but it reminds me of how desensitized we are and how seriously we need to take things we consider small now. I really enjoyed it. - no spoilers

Yea, lol, I dont have a membership either, so I cant DM you. But since you mentioned Discord, I dont mind downloading it. I used to be very active on it back in my gamer and early Christian walk days. There's a couple nice Christian servers on there too. Dont know how they are now since it's been a couple years since Ive been on. But, I can let you now my tag when I make it or we can use the CC app to voice chat if you'd like.

Oh wow, you'll definitely have to share some of that course with me. Sounds like a Bible boot camp which will be great for my spirit while I do real boot camp lol
ooh okay yeah, the course is ending for the summer this is the last week so maybe we can be accountability buddies for scirpture memorization or something. just lmk.
you are in bootcamp?! gl
my discord is oinkiepie_104
username CiiCii
I can share pics of the course too of course!!! i would legit love to it is so good my pastor said that when summer is over we can do the other two books too so when we get them i will share those too!

I enjoyed reading your insightful introductory post. There are plenty of Canadians on this site so you should feel right at home. It is delightful to have you join in on our many various conversations. Feel free to create your own thread in the topic and forum of your choice. Welcome to CC.
ooh yay, i like a lot of creative writing and other stuff so have a lot of odd thoughts and questions with scripture sometimes I cannot wait to hear people's opinions tbh !!!

it has been so long since i have been excited about a forum this place is great all of you are so great i can't wait to read what everyone has to say, although i will admit i have already started XD I wish this was an app for the phones too

My 2 fave authors, hmmm, maybe three? Jane Austen, Ayn Rand, and Anne Rice.
I had a Kindle Paperwhite and still do, but had to put it away = reading 4 books a week was crazy.
Reading in my youth was my great escape. Don't read much any more... lots a board reading but even
that? I have lost a lot of interest in the things people argue about, and then there is concentration...

I am still dealing with some of the losses I have experienced in my life, some profoundly so. Sometimes
it is perplexing. There are multiple layers and many ways of looking at things. I try to express each side.

I wish you much success! I have been writing songs. Some based on very old poems, and lots of new stuff also.

I understand this very well... He is the ground of our being!

Heh, I was just talking to my young co-worker about some of these old shows. She's never even heard of any of them...

Me too! Born and raised near Toronto, then west coast living pretty much since I was 22.

One of my most recent songs. Many of them are much more praise and worship oriented, and some testimonials.

Okay so first off, this is really odd comparison but your song feels like it should be an end credit to divergent - like it's those feels ( i mean it as a compliment it's really good!!)

also yeah people not hearing about the shows at our age is like normal ig, i only got into it when i tried to do digital detox but still wanted some shows and got into 50s living lifestyle and honestly really enjoyed it. I realized I was hooked when I started to get some of the celebrity references and recognizing actors in different oldies films lol.

i understand too with the concentration and all for reading, it can be a lot sometimes. I have been there actually for some time despite being a writer, but I have been trying to get back into it for the same reason you mentioned, it is a good escape.

So sorry though that you are dealing with losses yourself. from my own perspective i realize the word losses and struggles is severely underestimated so I really am sorry and pray you get through it. I would love to talk to you about it some time and hopefully share my own story. I wrote a small testimony about some of the loss called her broken prayer - (it is free rn so i don't mind sharing with you) LINK (HER BROKEN PRAYER BY BIRDIE FAYE)

Glad there is another fellow Canadian that also feels the same way about God and Christ being our grounding. tbh these past three years He has been silent but he is still here because I still have faith despite everything you know?

oh i also don't have a list of my fav authors rn i am still kind of looking since i want more clean and chrsitian reads, but Jane Eyre like has to be default XD

It took some searching, but I found a link where you can watch it for free. Hopefully, it will work in Canada:

It is a rather long movie. If you decide to watch it, then you will not understand it until the very end. For me, the ending was very impactful. I won't say anything more than that because I don't want to ruin it for you in case you do decide to watch it.

"The Robe" and "Ben Hur" both have to do with Jesus Christ, and they are both very long movies.

You can watch "The Robe" for free here, if the link works in Canada:

I'm going to see if I can find where I can watch "Dragonwyck." I never heard of that movie before. Thanks for the recommendation.

Is this the movie trailer? If it is, then I found where I can watch the movie for free. I already have some popcorn to pop.

Hi I am 28 yrs old, lowkey been going through a very long season of loss. I am still kind of broken tbh but I want to reach out and find some Christian friends online.

I like playing Minecraft and stardew valley when i can.
Starting my life over, prayer for a new job and God provided that.
I love reading
my dream job is to be an author and i am still pursuing that so if there are any Christian writers too please hmu.

um a little about me -
I love talking about anything and everything but I always bring it back to God, I can't help it so ... yeah,
I adore old films, since i prefer cleaner things dick van dyke is my fav show tbh close second is beverly hillbillies I love all retro music and slow living.
still have a soft spot for y2k
i share a lot of feelings
I am a total nerd for bible studying and notes, especially more creative/niche ones since i like doing bible studies for my stories so they are biblical and heavy in faith content.

I am also canadian but don't have a lot of canadian chrsitian friends, so it is a bit sad and discouraging at times if you know what is going on here, so it would be nice to get to know some more canadians.

I would love to chat on discord too for just company while playing games tbh or chatting about books ...

okay i think that is it.
I don't have an official denomination either, i guess closest would be Baptist, but honestly my priority is to read God's word and to follow it, his word is highest authority, even above my own preferences and i will not be bending on that.

And I go to church regularly, fun fact i started taking the navigation course so i am memorizing scriptures now which is super fun.
My favorite comedy.
I found this scene and started feeding a sweet little possum just a moment before she mentioned possum! 😄

You can put this site on your phone but, unfortunately, I don't know how. Perhaps another member can assist you. I'm glad that you're excited to be on this site. This site, through the years, has been a tremendous blessing for me and my wife.

Welcome Ciicil, I would not call myself a Christian author yet, my work in progress is in the nonfiction category for one thing, although there are those who would say it is pure fiction (most just know conclusions though, not the logic behind them) and m publisher is waiting for me to finish, as are several scholars who know enough to be fascinated .

Since you like Beverly Hillbillies, what do you think of Green Acres and Petticoat Junction?

Petticoat junction yes yes yes and I did watch some of Green Acres but honestly I wasn't able to get into it.

That is so cool that you are working on a non-fiction though. I have some non-fictions I would like to work on as well but it isn't time for that yet I think. Can I ask what the topic is about I would love to know more, i really enjoy reading non-fictions and about history (i will admit only recently though. I just finished Black Sun by Nicholas Goodrick a while ago. I need the physical book to make some notes I can't wait to re read it and his first book.

That is so cool that you have a publisher as well, I have always wanted to go through traditional publishing but right now I am going the indie route. is your manuscript almost done?

Right now, I am most of the way done, but also at what I consider the hard part. Numerous PhD's, in multiple fields including NT and Biblical Theology among others, would likely tell you that they are amazed that I consider what I have already written to be the easy part as they believe I have put things together better than anyone else they have ever read or even heard of. Just because I change a few assumptions and incorporate details that are often ignored.

And I asked about Green Acres and Petticoat Junction because n some story lines there were connections between Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres and even Hogan's Heroes. The connections were not commonly referred to, but did pop up on occasion with a simple passing comment about one or another of the different shows.
