@ChefJoe, I forgot to mention a couple of books to you, one pretty ancient, the other, modern. Both will help you learn to
practice the presence of God in your life, even in the midst of your busiest moments on your busiest days and nights.
The first book, by Brother Lawrence, is called (aptly)
The Practice of the Presence of God. It can be read online and/or downloaded for free
here. The other book, by Dr. J I Packer, is called
Knowing God, and you will need to purchase it if you want to read it.
Both books will help you find ways to grow in obedience to certain commands like the ones that we find in
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, commands that, especially at first blush, seem pretty impossible for us to fully obey.
God bless you!!
~Deuteronomy
p.s. - finally, one last thing on the topic of witnessing. I believe that you will find Greg Koukl's book on witnessing/evangelism to be EXTREMELY valuable/helpful to you in a number of ways. You can check it out at the following link if you'd like to.

1 Thessalonians 5
16 Rejoice always;
17 pray without ceasing;
