Hello everyone! My name is Emily and I am a Christian college student who just recommitted myself to Christ. Living at a university in the San Francisco Bay Area has been very difficult on my faith: people are very hostile to Christians. I am hoping to find support and comfort while I live in a place that is so vehemently against God. As someone who is studying film and video games for my major, I also find myself consuming a lot of worldly entertainment. I want to be better than that. I want to fill my heart with better things.

It has been a long time since I have talked to Christians other than my family. I had a very bad experience at a church a year ago and have been scared of fellowship with other Christians ever since. All my friends at university care about me, but they talk so bad about Christianity. I'm even scared to say I'm a Christian. I'm hoping to meet fellow Christians and perhaps even make some friends.

Hello, Emily! That is awesome you recommitted yourself to Christ!! 🙂 I am very sorry for the bad experience you had at the church you spoke of. ☹️ That is truly saddening. I would encourage you not to let it keep you away from Christ's body longterm. My heart is blessed each and every week when I gather with my church family. Oh, how I hope you will experience this one day, even one day very soon! It can be incredibly edifying on so many levels.
Even so, I think your coming to this site can be of benefit to you as well. Sometimes there can be a lack of love with some things posted. But I find that there is a godliness here too that I do appreciate.

"In God, whose words I praise, In God I have put my trust; I shall not be afraid. What can mere man do to me?" Psalm 56:4

I'm glad you're here, Emily! 💛

Welcome Emily, and nice to meet you. My son is going through some of the same problems. He has a man teacher who dresses like a gal and a class, he had to take, on different cultures. Now the emphasis is on LGBTQ and he can't really say too much w/o classmates all turning on him. However, he does wear Christian T-shirts, lol. God be with you, Emily!

Hostility from unbelievers is predictable and bad experiences at churches are not rare since not all Christians are really Christians.

Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake .

Welcome to Christian Chat, Emily!

Hey PP, great to see you come onboard! Isn't there a Christian group there that you can join? If not why don't you start one? Try to find a Christian church near you for fellowship and support too.
Cheers! :)

I know what you mean about hostility towards Christians. Years ago, I used to spend all of my time socializing with people on the internet, where the subject was mainly worldly entertainment, like films and video games. These communities were also so negative towards Christians, it almost seemed better not to be open about one's faith.

That was some time ago, though. I think as you continue to grow in your relationship with Christ, you'll feel more comfortable telling people about it. At some point, God becomes a more clearly powerful force in your life.

Speaking from reflecting on my own experience, as a suggestion, I do think it is good to work on growing bolder in your faith sooner rather than later. If you spend too much time concealing it, you can risk becoming too blended in with their worldly ways. The right people will appreciate and respect you in your faith, even if they disagree with it. And, perhaps with time, the crowds who disparage your faith will come to have that reflect badly back on them to the more genuine, more mature, more open-minded people.

Hi,

There nothing to be afraid. In the beginning it is like any other relationship. You can trust God with your life.

But you grow inch by inch, one step at a time. You need also to possess a hunger to know God. And He will satisfy your desire and the longer you serve Him and getting to know God, you become more bolder.

And look at the example of Moses, one of the meekest and humiblest person on earth. The King of Babylon, God also humbled.

The most beloved disciple John, spoke so gracefully about the love of God. May you give more of yourself to God, and may you not resist His love. He will draw you nearer.
