Anyone know what it's all about? I'm just curious how it works. To what extent does the government tell you what to do? Do you have to conform to their curriculum? Do students have to pass tests which they provide?

I've recently become interested in this and realized I know nothing at all about how it works. Does anyone have firsthand information or know of a good website that might help?

State oversight of homeschooling varies dramatically from state to state. Every home schooler that I know uses pre-packaged curricula that can be acquired from a number of different home school organizations.

Ultimately, you would still have to teach evolutionary theory (it's information they need to have if they're going to continue to higher education) but you can moderate it with emphasizing creationism (or intelligent design theory).

Just about every major town is going to have multiple home school organizations that helps homeschooling parents to network and help each other.

Homeschool Legal Defense Association (HSLDA) is a good place to start.
Members get access to legal help and tools (this has been very helpful for our family transitioning from public school to homeschool with special needs kiddos)
Non members can find info about each states requirements and how to get started homeschooling in their state.

I should also note that HSLDA is a Christian faith based organization.

Yeah, I watched some Youtube videos and that's what they were saying; the laws vary from state to state.
