So do you think Jesus Christ was actually saying to the ruler, "You should not call Me good because only God is good and I'm not God"?
Because the young ruler approached Him, the Lord was testing the young ruler to see whether his knowledge of Him came from God. But he failed the test.
Also look at what the Lord did when He and His disciples came from Caesarea Philippi, where He had preached. It was as if He was asking His disciples to report whether the people in Caesarea Philippi had passed the test, or whether their knowledge of Him came from God’s revelation after hearing His preaching. And the result was that they failed the test.
MATTHEW 16:13-14
13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi,
he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?
14 And they said,
Some say that thou art John the Baptist:
some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or
one of the prophets.
It is God who knows whether your understanding of what He said comes from God.
And now it is clearly entrusted to His chosen ones to test the people who read and believe in the word of God, to reveal whether their knowledge of the Lord Jesus comes from God or only from man.
And this is what His disciples did.
That is why God’s chosen ones today also carry out the test in 1 John 4:2–3 and Revelation 4:2.
And notice this: even the disciples of the Lord also went through a test.
The good thing is, they passed.
And the way they passed was through humility, by not relying on their own wisdom or human knowledge to recognize the true Jesus.
That is why the Lord said that Peter’s confession that Jesus is the Christ and the Son of the living God did not come from Peter himself, but from God.
MATTHEW 16:15-17
15 He saith unto them,
But whom say ye that I am?
16 And Simon Peter answered and said,
Thou art the Christ, the
Son of the living God.
17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona:
for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
It is still God who knows whether He will give you understanding that comes from Him.
Have you noticed the difference between words that come from God and those that come from man?
Isn’t it true that those who read and believe in the holy book also say to Jesus, ‘You are the Christ and the Son of the living God’?
It is the same statement. But those who read and believe in the holy book have four different understandings of the Lord Jesus same from Caesarea Philippi about the Lord, and that is already enough proof that what they said to Jesus,"You are the Christ and the Son of the living God"did not come from God. And so they failed the test too.
But Peter’s statement to Jesus surely came from God because it was affirmed by the Lord Jesus.
We have never heard from preachers that a miracle is first required before one can know the Lord Jesus.
