Those verses are great to be reminded of. However - how do you personally get close to God?

I know the verse about groaning inwardly - and I have that. But it's uncomfortable as I keep grasping for God is as grasping for air. Then I sense Him close - getting only blips - but then it's gone. I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong - if that makes sense. I'm trying to draw close but feel I'm not getting there.

This forum doesn't allow but 10,000 characters, so I had to take a lot of scriptures off to just even post my first post in this thread, even my apology for not posting but a 10th of which and what. should be posted. so I guess I'm not going to do that this post. Let me try speaking plainly about scripture.

Looking at Peter, you know he has a great beginning in his story, gets a name change to the "Rock". Impressive I'd say, is a witness to all the miracles, gets called "Satan", boasts of devotion, told he would deny Him, that Satan desires to sift him as wheat, cuts an ear off, and after 3 years of following and being discipled... denies Him and flees <<< Peter's personal sufferings. Then Jesus's resurrection and victory over death, and on the third appearance and a boatload of fish again, <<< Peter's choice of course to be fishing along with 6 other disciples, gets asked 3 times and told 3 times, Do you love Me, then feed my sheep. I would say from that point on it appears Peter's living and sufferings were for Christ (and not his own) and nothing but for Christ Jesus. They hear at him Pentecost..., and then being scourged with John by the elders and rejoicing at that, not fleeing, but in full faith even threat and eventual death couldn't shut him up, because without Jesus we can do nothing.

We hear about putting off the old man, being transformed, and stepping in to ( entering ) as a living epistle of Jesus Christ known and read of all men saying the kingdom of God is at hand. Now it says clearly we are complete in Him, even more than conquerors, and even all things are ours. We are asked to as servants ( doers! ) to give freely, as unto God, hoping nothing again even at the cost of our very lives, of which we hear Peter had no issues about, even was crucified upside down with that joy and assurance in Christ Jesus. His yoke is easy and His burden is light in Him by faith we stand in His sufficiency, His righteousness and His kingdom that we enter already given to us when we first believed.

They were all willing to be broken for Him in certainty of their faith which was quickened by the holy Spirit given to all who believe in Him and not themselves or of their own understanding seeking their own, but the things of our Savior Jesus Christ the Lord. Looking back at Peter and the 6 other disciples fishing through out the night catching nothing, and then reaping the bounty of a full net simply by His instruction to find them. Had to have been a "eureka moment" in the instruction of making them fishers of men for all of His sheep He was sending them to gather from the very start of their discipleship.

God will fill our nets just as easily and freely as He did theirs, for He is kind to the unthankful and the evil as well as His own. As believers making up the body of Christ we all have our own
part to participate in His instruction in gathering unto Him, truly giving Him our hearts freely by following and joining unto His love, His peace and His liberty, His rest.

I hope in some way this post will help you a little better, I really don't see that I said much of anything different with scripture in my first post than with my own words in this post. I know I certainly prefer scripture over any opinion of my own. :)

I think a very good way to draw nigh unto the Lord is by opening up our Bibles. It is His Written Word to you and me. And then we need to submit ourselves to the Word of God. We must believe it to be true with all our A1F7DF9C-1A77-45C8-B8B8-ACB1F84D00BB.gif Listen to His voice through the Holy Spirit saying to you, “This is the way; now walk in it.” Fall in love with His beautiful promises to you. Oh how He longs to be gracious to us. He rises to show us compassion and inclines His ear to hear us. He has given us His grace. Let us draw nigh unto Him.

In the far past I would spenc my summers camped out in the Rockies in and around Roosevelt National forrest. When I awoke each day in my camp, a hummingbird would come up to my nose as if to say good morning. It would hover there for several seconds.
Afternoons a ver odd looking bird, a flock of them actually, would encircle my camp and watch me. Whyi I have no idea for I did not have any kind of food discards or waste for I kept that type of stuff packed an sealed to go to the proper disposal containers in the public camp sites.

There were many days while I walked in the forrest on old mining roads and mule deer trails I would see how the trees and other flora woudl seem to be reaching up to praqise and thank God. One day I wass doing this and all of the flora sseemed to be dead, lifeless, then I realized they were only there because God put them there. They only seemed alive because God was within keeping them so.

Yes, nature is a wonder and a gift to mankind, so we must care for it as besst we are given, though this age and creration is definitely allied to decay. Imagine the one to come, lving and everlasting...now that is a hope that keeps us continuing no matter how much oppression we may endure now, it is so worth the experience. Praise God, amen.

My thoughts always wander when I try to pray or read the Word - I think it's a spiritual attack.
yeah, that happens. it's just a matter of training the mind, bringing the mind back to whatever it is you're doing (praying or studying God's Word).

It's also a matter of putting off the old man and putting on the new man. The new man delights in the things of God (I delight in the law of God after the inward man - Rom 7:22).

During prayer or study time, as soon as we realize we have wandered, we turn our hearts to the Lord Jesus Christ, put off the old man, put on the new man, and further put on the Lord Jesus Christ.

Man was created in a way that, there are things he can do without anybody teaching him how to,for example how to fall in love, drawing close to God is the same as falling in love with God in other terms,so nobody is taught naturally how to love someone, the love you have for someone commands the way to express,The best way to draw close to God isn’t taught but is dictated by how much of Him you want!!!

I get blips of sensing God close but really desire to draw closer. How do you personally draw near to God? I know in reality that verse "I long for You Lord as in a dry and thirsty land where there is no water."

Do you go to a specific place to draw near? Do you try to 'sense' Him close? Do you get up early? I'd like to know how others get into that really vital relationship and draw near to Him.
I am currently in that dry and thirsty land it has been a long road and I only get short oasis stops of him along the way. I draw near to him in different ways I love nature and find it easy to be close to him when I am around it but I live in Oklahoma we mainly have dirt where I live so I have to be creative in ways to find him sometimes I go on a walk sometimes I take a shower no idea why that works form me but it does and other times like yesterday I write to him expressing everything to him and sometimes just talking to him will do it.

I find it very difficult to be in dry seasons it is perhaps the worst kind of storm for me I hate it and I hate finding it so hard to be close to him yet it is also in these times where I have to choose to trust him and I say choose because I literally find myself growing weak and weary doubt begins to form fear and worry faith fading but I say to him I choose to trust you and as soon as I say that I feel my faith strengthen.

I think sometimes we go through such dry seasons longing for him unable to truly find him to build our trust and faith but making the choice to trust him and that he will bring us through it is not an easy thing to do but when you do suddenly he draws just a bit closer to you

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. (first part of verse)

Jerimiah 29:13You will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. 14I will be found by you, declares the LORD,

Matthew 7:7Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened to you. 8For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.…

The wonderful thing is that when we desire to be with God and draw close to Him He is delighted to come to and be with us. I like the verses above because it also shows interaction not just us drawing close or seeking or asking as when we do those things God responds to us and that is a beautiful thing.

One attitude which helps to be near our Father is to keep always in mind and heart others who suffer the oppression of this age. Consider the imminent unfolding of what is to be and how we all should be prepared in heart, soul and mind to suffer even more with our Savior Jesus Yesua.

With the impendingpower shortages and their ramifications, this is not a time to be thinking of self onlyu when all will be in the peril to come. Keep in mind heart and soul the love that is our Father and how we must strive to love all others.

Think of being on the cross and saying in truth, forgive them Father for they know not what they do. We die with our beloved Savior daily, and this is good.

John 21:17 He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.

Galatians 6:10 As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Luke 6:35 But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Romans 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.

Mark 4:11 And he said unto them, Unto you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God: but unto them that are without, all these things are done in parables:

Mark 4:12 That seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

Isaiah 6:9 And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.

Isaiah 6:10 Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed.
