It's kind of a toughy and a really personal one at that. Are you TRULY seeking God with ALL your heart? I had an experience not too long ago where I could not figure out why I was so out of touch with God, but I realized that there was something in my life that I needed to get rid of because it was slowly pushing God off to the side, and once I prayed and repented of it, I was able to feel connected with God again.
Psalm 23 is something I always read and use in this scenario, and recently I was convicted by Holy Spirit about my role in this.
1 The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want. 2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,
he leads me beside quiet waters,
3 he restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness
for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk
through the valley of the shadow of death, [
a]
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD
forever.
As David sings, God is with us in our worst situations. He walks with us through the valley, or our worst time, AND before our enemies. He prepares a table before us. It also states that goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, meaning it will actively follow us.
What Holy spirit has convicted me of is that God (the goodness and love) follows us, because he follows our path. What are we doing in our lives that leaves a trail of love behind us which he can find and follow us. Sometimes my outward actions aren't always Christlike and it has prevented me from feeling connected with God because in that same sense I was hiding like Adam and Even after they had eaten the forbidden fruit. God knew where they were and he knew where I was, but why did he ask? He asked and waited until WE come out and make the changes necessary to have a loving relationship with him. We are hidden behind sin and shame, and they separate us from Christ. He knows where we are, but he's calling us to break the barrier we created.
I'd pray, ask Holy Spirit to convict you of whatever it may be that is separating you from God. Pray for healing and a fresh start. God is great and WILL give it to you. You have to show up with the keys, and trust that he will provide a way. HE WILL!
