Just wondering on those of you who are single, how important is facebook to you? I don't use it a lot as far as posting daily but I do see stuff my f.b. friends post, so it's like reading the daily paper that does nothing but give me news about what is new in their life. And I also communicate with friends and family when I have to instead of calling them on the phone or emailing them. Yet, I work with people who have to post every little thought.

Just not worth my time, too many self absorbed idiots on there, only use it to contact family who live far away..
I'm probably one of 3 people left in the universe who isn't on Facebook, and if possible, I never intend to be--mostly because it would just feed my already pervasive internet addiction. I would literally spend all my time trying to catch up on the bright, shiny (and often unrealistic) events of other people's lives rather than living out my own.
I know I've probably missed out by not being a part of that community, but seeing which people are willing to keep in touch with me outside of Facebook helps me discern those whose lives I'm meant to be a part of.
I always pray that God will help me discern whom He wants me to be in close contact with, and I always know there's something extra-special about someone who makes the effort to keep in touch via personal contact instead of made-for-the-masses posts on social media.
(No disrespect at all to people who find social media to be the best way to keep in touch--it's just that it's not for me, and I know I've been spared a lot of drama and being dragged into fights by not being part of it.)

I always refused to have a facebook until my wife left. A woman at work set it for me and proceeded to friend every 20 something female she could find, to make my wife jealous. Now I just use it to spy on people in my county.

There are a couple of positive things about facebook: looking at pictures of peoples' kids and dogs is very pleasant. I also use it as a way to find out who to pray for, as many of my facebook friends post prayer requests. Extended family uses it to communicate, and I use it to communicate with coworkers.
One of the best things is reading the articles and looking at interesting or beautiful pictures. I just subscribed to a page called "Old Time Photos" and got a lot of pleasure looking at the pictures. I also like Atlas Obscura. Their articles are fascinating.

I don't have one by choice and it's worked for me. The pressure of social media now on young people with presenting this "my gorgeous life" theme and caring way too much about the number of 'likes' they get because that's how they determine whether or not they have any place in this world, any worth, is wrong.
As teachers, christians and role model's, our examples have never been more crucial. There are people who are well past those years of insecurity who they find themselves caring too much about social media. The grown ups in the room remind young people that this is not the stuff that matters. There are so many role models published in the public eye, that are based on fluff, we've got to celebrate the one's of depth. Malalai Yousafzai is one that young people look for earnestly and hold onto and the kind of life the media should be celebrating instead.

I mainly post something funny or some cake order I did or something God related. I don't have to post , but I enjoy it. Also... my Grandpa has spoke to me more in the past 3 years that he's been on Facebook than he has the past 30 years.

I only use Facebook to bind all of my iPad game profiles. That's the only reason I care about it at all, tbh.
That was such a hilarious movie...I would probably go insane without it...
To me Facebook was the first experience of social media and I have learned to control myself through the years on how I use it. I am happy now I am as naive as I was when I started using it in my college days, I can go days without it and sometimes even deactivate it for a while.
I have made great friends and learned a lot of things through FB. Facebook helped me to contact with my host when I was coming to Finland as it was my first time travelling out of my country. I have developed meaningful networks as well through Facebook.
Now i mostly go online and read through my notifications and log out. I don't even have the app on my phone so it doesn't bother me anymore.
With all these social media these days, I feel much safer not being on other media like Instagram, Snapchat and so on. It feels so confusing these days, glad I am out of that and I am Ok without it.

Th first half is kind of what happened to me. My sister set it up for me after my wife left. I really don't do alot on it other than communicate with ex inlaws and post pics of kids for them.
I don't have Facebook, but for me it's not a matter of "Facebook is eeeeevil! Stay away from the evil!" It just doesn't fit my use case. My father uses it to stay in touch with people across the country, some of my friends at church use it to keep updated on each other's lives outside church, but... it just doesn't do anything I need done. It's just one of those things that is there, something I may use someday if I ever need it, but probably won't ever need it.
To me Facebook is like Pandora or Spotify - lots of people use it but I have Isaac Radio (my really big, very diverse music collection) on my phone so I've never needed it.
He started collecting all the pictures of women he could find - copies of other guys' pictures of their girlfriends, mothers, including a few snapshots of topless natives - and sent them all to her with a note: "Sorry, I'm not sure which girlfriend you are. If your picture is here, please pick it out and send the rest back."

Sounds like something I heard about an army guy who was stationed in the Marshall Islands. Six months after he was sent there his girlfriend sent him a letter that she was going with his best friend, and would he please send her picture back.

None of my grandparents are on Facebook. It has something to do with their age I guess. Especially as they've all passed away. I dont use Facebook myself. I did try it once but one of my cousins wives was putting pictures on that were a bit obscene, and I couldn't be on Facebook and block them as they are family. Also from the way Facebook is part owned and used by the CIA to gather personal information about family and friends I'd rather not be part of it. Not that I have anything to hide. Is just the principle of privacy.
When a friend had me open up Facebook they also had me open up twitter. I came off twitter so fast. All these people kept following me! I deleted both my twitter and Facebook accounts.
No facebook for me. Like Lynx I've never felt the need for it and like seoul I don't need more things encouraging me to spend more of my time online. Going to try a couple meetup.com groups that look interesting, but I already have my online community here, and family is close or not on facebook so there's no draw there for me.
My friends said, I am bitter because I deactivated my FB account. I thought they are bitter because they lost one liker. Now I have more productive things done than being on FB for hours.

I only use FB to message a few people that I don't give my number to. More will check FB message before email.. depending on age and life necessity for emailing
