I'll bless my Lord who guards me from temptation, trouble and trauma. I'm already redeemed by the blood of Christ, not blood of a hymen.
So you are saying that you know you are unable to create or form any long term relationships....

That's very sad.

False dichotomy. Totally possible to be single, walk with God, and walk in the spirit of power, love, and self control that he has given us ( 2 tim 1:7). Heck we don't even know the marital status of most of the characters in scripture, it wasn't that important to the story because God can use anyone he chooses, even a donkey.
There's a difference between men and women.

First..
.it's not good for man to be alone.
Same "good" as used for the word translated into "Holy".

Meaning alone is unholy.
But men are able to function alone. Adam did...and did well....

Eve however, was not created to be alone. She was created to be strong in areas Adam was weak...just like Adam was strong in ways Eve was weak. Eve was not created to ever be alone.

This same term of help/mate is the same as God does for mankind...being strong where he cannot help himself. (Salvation by holy life)

I have been single 17 years never been married. I had a girlfriend in high school for two years and that was it. I am 32 now.
Some people say I was single when I was born... but what if God had someone picked out for me when I was born... would I still be single?:coffee::sneaky:

I think so, since all of us consider ourselves single regardless of whether God ultimately has someone he intends to be our spouse until we're married we're single.

Just curious...

Where is " good" also translated as "holy" ?
On the seventh day....

Holy is a word with several meanings all at the same time....and one can mean the others.

Pure&Good are common with Holy.

Very much like my daughter, who will be forty soon. She has dogs. And cats. Never had a boyfriend...
well, there was someone who liked her? But he was the ex of her best friend and other circumstances

just made that whole situation awkward for her. She herself said she's never been drawn to anyone.
Interestingly enough her premature birth may have something to do with this. Her own research told
her that premature babies are far less likely to take risks as an adult. Hmmm. Relationships are risky.
I don't think that's what that meant, though it could be included. She would never have lived the type
of life I did, though we did not have the words for it back then: "high risk life-style." Just reckless, really.
I am grateful to God for being so gracious toward me He allowed me to survive the stupidity of my youth.
quite the honest posting of your life Magenta. big turn-around for you in the right direction. for a while i was quite reckless, as a vandal. that lasted about 8 years.

I'm saying that if you ask, 'do you want marriage", you should realize that any man's other half starts with a stranger, than progresses into acquaintance, companion, friend, girlfriend, financee, bride, and finally wife. What's really sad is your blindness to see the absurdity that somehow you're entitled to a pre-existing spouse, when you ask 'do you want marriage" without even an aquaintance in mind, you're looking for a wife among strangers with the high expectation of a "wife', as though she's already there somewhere, and you just need to sift through the possible candidates.

It was not good for man to be nailed on a cross in the most painful and humiliating way one could possibly imagine, and yet the son of man went through it, willingly. And He didn't have any earthly marriage, his heavenly marriage is a spiritual union with his church, not any single woman.

You are not Jesus....
You are not God.

You can't do miracles.

You are the creation....not the Creator.

No, but I understand that God doesn't create an Eve for every Adam or an Adam for every Eve. Jesus taught that what God joined together, let no man separate; but what God did NOT join together, let no man join together either.

He does create someone for everyone ....
We just always have warped desires....

And just because Paul got divorced before he started his Christian tour did not mean that women were not after him romantically. Lydia had a thing for him...Never lost it either as she put a piece of purple in his coffin.

Paul divorced? Lydia admired him? Speculations or really true?

If Paul is divorced, was he fit to be a pastor?

Yeah, as credible as Mary Magdalene having a thing for Lord Jesus. Now you're just spreading disinformation.

There're two explanations, one is that he was technically a travelling apostle, i.e. sent one, not a presiding pastor; another is that the rule of "husband of one wife" is simply a disapproval on polygamy and a qualification for leadership position, it only applied on those who ALREADY have a household, since that was the norm back then, not bachelors. What was required was competence for leadership, it alludes to the principle of trust - he who can be trusted with little can be trusted with much; he who can't be trusted with little can't be trusted with much.

Ummmm
I let God pick who He wants as Pastor, Deacon, or elder. Human "rules" are really not relevant. And because of the empowerment of the Holy Spirit...
They do the job assigned to them whether the leadership recognizes them or not.

And Jewish "marriages" had several layers of being "married" or "divorced". All were covered in a ketubah as to how to dissolve the marriage. (We call it fiancé, engaged, or some other word that never existed in Hebrew vocabulary)

And really true about Paul.

His "coffin" was "re-discovered" with age appropriate writing and a piece of purple cloth inside.

About human leadership recognition...

Adoniram Judson was a Deist. Did not believe in any of the denominations that were having a guerrilla war with the other denominations. (Yes, blood was spilled and many people died) However....the Virginia Baptists converted Adoniram and sent him on a missionary journey to India and Burma...he FAILED miserably. His wife and kids died and he had one half believer at the end of 20 years. He is recognized as America's first missionary...churches are named after him.
Then there's George Lyle....
He started multiple churches here....mostly for the slave population. He taught mostly the ten commandments and living a holy lifestyle...he formed many churches. Literally thousands.
Then the Colonists decided they did not like him during the Revolutionary War....(George wasn't political but....funny how people make everything about politics isn't it?).

So they sought to enslave George Lyle and his wife and kids. George had never been a slave. He was born free. His wife was once a slave but had been freed. (Colonists were winning and British retreating)
So George needed to get a ride with the British and got a ride to Jamaica.(maybe Hati) Where he once again began making converts, disciples and churches....
Making George America's first true Missionary....despite the lack of hype.

So...using a better metric...Who really was America's first missionary? George or Adoniram?

Of course Mary of Magdela loved Jesus...
But as a former prostitute she would not dream of thinking of trying to gain a romantic relationship with Jesus. She had already had many marriages...that's why she WAS a prostitute. (NO little girl grows up wanting to be a prostitute as a life goal....they usually want to be princesses and etc).

And your hermeneutics of Paul's letters needs adjustment. There "publicly addressed" letters written for public consumption and private letters made public...written less formally and more colloquially to his student/friend.

"A husband of One wife" in Paul's world meant a man with no formal consorts in addition to his wife. Because in Greeko/Roman society consorts were a high status lifestyle for women. Most of your wealthy citizens had at least one consort. It didn't mean a divorced and remarried man was ineligible.

The requirements for elders are clear, respectable, above reproach ......

If one man had divorced his wife, that shows he not able to manage his own household. So it will be hard to manage God's household.

I don't think Paul was a pastor, he was an Apostle.

He was sent to be an apostle of the Gentiles, i.e he didn't stay at home. So anyway he famously wrote that it was good to be single as he was. Or as he put it, unmarried.

Anyway, why do you ask? Are you counting down the years, days, hours, minutes and seconds?

If someone just got divorced, and someone asks them 'how long have you been single' do they just say, well I got divorced yesterday so I've been single for about 12 hours.
