Hi All,

I'm a single Christian and a new believer and I have a question.

How can I best serve God?

Currently I'm going/giving to the church and other needs. I play worship guitar every once a while. I go to community group and bible study.

I feel like I'm not doing enough for God.

How can I best give my life to Him?

Thanks.

and seeking His will in your life....

:)

maybe pray on it and just stay in the Word

He may be using you more than you notice

Maybe I'm just... surprised... at the lightness of Christ's yoke? :)

Also, I'm never going to be able to out-love God :)

You can remain obedient to God in everything you do.
Pray that you will grow in grace and knowledge.
Read the bible every single day.
God will never put more than you can handle on you, so your "load" may increase as you grow in Christ.
May the Lord bless you for your ambition.

Sell all of your belongings.

Jesus answered, "If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me."
(Matthew 19:21 NIV)

I'd consider it if Christ was incarnate on Earth today and I could become an apostle, but I don't think this message is for today, sorry. The only thing it would accomplish me is, instead of being a giver, I would become a beggar.

Whatever you do, do not start comparing yourself to other people and what they do. You are not them and you can get a false reading on how well you are doing by comparing yourself to them.

Just do whatever you can to help people around you who need help, whether it is computer help if you are a nerd or financial help if you have more than they have or just helping somebody on the roadside to change a flat tire. Whatever you can do to help people around you, do it to the best of your ability.

If you think you aren't doing the right things, or that you aren't doing enough...
you should really be talking to God about this.

If God has more for you to do, how could we have the answer to what that might be?

You should pray about this, and search the scriptures, and keep doing that till you have answers.
After you have answers, share them with your pastor, to see if he can confirm them, or at least say they sound biblical.

We don't have answers about what SPECIFIC things YOU should be doing to serve God...
we can only give you general principles about general things.

First, great thread! I have similar thoughts myself. There are times when I don't think I'm doing enough.

Of course every person has different talents and inclinations, so not everyone is a good candidate to become a minister or missionary. But looking at the things you do, it sure seems like you're off to a great start in serving God.

For me, I try to act in a manner in my everyday life that would be appropriate if Jesus was standing right next to me. (Because, well, He is! Omniscience, you know.) I don't always succeed in this, but I try. And I'm not afraid or reluctant to talk about God with others I encounter in life. I try to avoid getting all judgmental over doctrinal differences if they attend a different church than me, but instead try to be supportive and encouraging.

Godspeed to you in your Christian endeavors!

Hi and welcome.
Praise Jesus that you have placed your faith in him.

You ask the question “How can I best give my life to him?

You have done the best thing by giving your life to him.
Having done that you are now his child and he loves you as much as he loves Jesus.

I would say you seem to be a lot of doing and focusing on that.
I would say focus on knowing who you are now in Jesus and Gods child rather than doing.
If we just focus on doing then we miss what God primarily wants with us.
God is primarily concerned with relationship with us.

He doesn’t want robots or us doing stuff in order to please him to get his love.

So if we focus on being what we are in him then as a result we start doing and for the right reason.

So we need get to know him as a Father.
When we grow in the relationship then we start doing because we love him and want to be like him.

Of course the first step is reading his word.
Getting to know him through the word and as a result what he wants to do in you and through you.

The bible says he works good in all things in order to conform you to the image of Jesus.
Read the gospels to see what Jesus did.

Jesus loved people, reached out to people.
As we are conformed in his image we will start to be like him without even thinking about it.

Prayer and continual communication with God is also extremely important.
I have quiet times with God but also talking to him throughout the day.
Asking for help, wisdom and so on.

We could do all the works we want but if we have not love they mean nothing.

Its great to be doing all the things you are saying you are doing.

But there is more to that.

We best serve God by loving God, loving our neighbours and Jesus took it further loving our enemies.
We ask God, let me decrease and let Jesus increase.

I thank God for your heart to serve him it shows you are are not looking for an easy milk ticket.

I hope some of the above makes sense.

Bill

Hi sister! Welcome to CC! Praise the Lord!
Sounds like you are active in serving at your church! God grows us in our faith and when He's ready He calls us for our specific purpose! Read your Bible and learn all you can, pray, and listen with your ears and the Spirit! Sometimes God will tell you, sometimes He will just put a need before you, lay a calling on your heart, or communicate audibly or through scripture...even repeated sermons or daily devotionals. A lot of times He moves through the Holy Spirit. Do all you can to be prepared for His instruction! God bless! It's amazing how light His yoke is! It's because He blesses us for serving and glorifying Him!

These verses came to mind, not sure if it helps but it’s a good
foundation.

Micah 6:6-8 AMPC
[6] With what shall I come before the Lord and bow myself before God on high?
Shall I come before Him with burnt offerings, with calves a year old?
[7] Will the Lord be pleased with thousands of rams or with ten thousands
of rivers of oil? Shall I give my firstborn for my transgression, the fruit
of my body for the sin of my soul?
[8] He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require
of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble
yourself and walk humbly with your God?

I'd consider it if Christ was incarnate on Earth today and I could become an apostle, but I don't think this message is for today, sorry. The only thing it would accomplish me is, instead of being a giver, I would become a beggar.

"But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions."
(Matthew 19:22 KJV)

i cant deny it would be a fruitful thing to be honest

you make a point ....
through much sacrifice for brothers and sisters
with great charity

something done out of faith

like giving all that you have and putting complete faith in God to provide

it might very well please Him

:)

I don't actually expect anyone to do that unless they've decided to become a monk or something, but it is a valid answer to the question. :)

Serve the Father which is in heaven by doing his will KJVMatthew12:48-50 48."But he answered and said unto him that told him, Who is my mother? and who are my brethren? 49.And he stretched forth his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my mother and my brethren! 50. For whosoever shall do the will of my Father which is in heaven, the same is my brother, and sister, and mother".

On a silver platter :)

Hah!
In a sense yes, because we want everyone to know of God's greatness and about his word, though people who are lost will think we are crazy,we still ought to serve up God to everyone!
