How to stop sinning

I don't know why. But I'm truly saddened by the news. I thought this person had a lot to contribute.

Sometimes someone writes some post or posts that are way out of line, and they get banned over it, and the mods remove the posts because they are offensive. People just randomly blow up sometimes, for sure I do too.
Or sometimes it's over a private message conversation, maybe with a mod or maybe not.
It's difficult because often we don't see anything obvious that explains it. I mean I can speculate, but it wouldn't be worth much for me to

The thing is, I don't have to work for it. The Lord Jesus Christ did all the work for me.

But that doesn't mean I get to sit idle. There are people to tell the good news to, hungry children to feed, and the oppressed to look after.

And although these things can't get me into heaven, they can put me in a higher position when I get there.

but if you start, then stop, but then your body/flesh wants to sin again what do you do.

Here are all the ways we sin:

• We sin when we drive a mile/km over the speed limit
• We sin when we get angry at the cashier
• We sin when we fudge on our taxes
• We sin when we show the other driver "who's boss"
• We sin when we look at that young woman in the short skirt a little too long
• We sin when we gossip about that new person in the church
• We sin when secretly hope our neighbor's new truck breaks down
• We sin when we condemn other people for sinning
• We sin when we take a long time to forgive
• We sin when we worry
• We sin when we horde what's really God's property

And on it goes. In fact, there's no limit to our sin.

And I understand your frustration with those who feel like it's okay to keep sinning because they know they'll be forgiven.

I've been on the receiving end of that. I had two Christian people hurt me intentionally. It was so bad, I lost my wife, my son, my business, and my home. And it was all out of spite for little ol' me. It was the most horrible thing I've ever been through.

And both had the nerve to say they would pray for me. Keep in mind that they were the ones who wrecked my life. And now they were asking God to help me fix it.

The hypocrisy of that is reprehensible.

My point is, even Christians sin. Yes, even pastors. Even elders. Even really good people like you.

One final thought

Pastor Jeff Schrieve has an amazing sermon series about sin. He says that our attitude should be that we should no longer want to sin. It's not that we won't. It's just that we should hate it as much as God does.

Just my two cents

I'm not sure it's possible for us to hate (our) sin as much as God does. We don't have the capacity to even truly understand what sin does. We know it hurts when people sin against us, but I believe that "hurt feeling" is barely scraping the surface of How God views sin.

It is good to instruct each other how to live righteously but it must be done correctly, the spirit speaks forth like flowing water and gives life and instructs if we teach on a matter but it does not do this then our words are spoken in vain and not by the spirit

If our teaching creates that spark and ignite the flame, if our words create a spring of water in the souls of others then it is spirit lead. Far to many give instruction and teach on matters they do not understand their words do not give life, anyone who knows the spirit should know that the fruits are end result of good planting if you plant your seed of teaching or instruction but don't see a garden perhaps your soil is not fit for such planting.

This is very true, since we -- saints -- are all sinners saved by grace. The way to "stop" sinning is to focus on righteousness. We are spending far too much time and energy on discussing sins and sinning. So the question should really be "How should we do right and live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world (Titus 2:12)?" And the answer in Scripture is "Walk in the Spirit, and you will not live according to the flesh".

mm I think a lot of people dont undertand about the flowing water part.

when plants dont have water they will die. The other thing is soil can soak up a lot of water but if you soil is bad or rocky /sandy and there is no good root system plants dont have a good chance of growing.

Grace is nothing more than a free gift. And that free gift is our access back to the tree of life (Jesus) which Adam caused us to lose by disobeying God. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: (Romans 5: 12) But to maintain your grace you must keep the law. (1John 3:4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

Jesus says in (Luke:4:4) And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God.
The reference point for Christians is the Bible, the revelation of God to mankind and source book for God's commands to us, known as the divine Law. God's laws are holy and the commandment holy, and just, and good. (Romans:7:12). They are the instructions for the way we should conduct our lives. Yet throughout history we see people trying to side-step the laws of God. Even today many Christian churches do not place as much emphasis on observing God's law as they do on ‘love’. But the fact is, we need both!

The apostle John, (1John: 4:20) If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? As we can see, God condemns those who claim to love Him while they hate their brothers. Again in, (1John:3:14) it states We know that we have passed from death unto life, because we love the brethren. He that we need to seriously take to heart especially in these days when we see communities dividing into factions.

In (1John: 2:4) He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. How can anyone claim to know God yet teach that it is not necessary to obey His laws? Many fail to understand that the `New Covenant' includes a better way to implement the same set of laws that were given on Mt. Sinai, the Ten Commandments:

In the scriptures it's written in (Jer.31:31-33) (v.31) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah: (v.32) Not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was an husband unto them, saith the LORD: (v.33) But this shall be the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel; After those days, saith the LORD, I will put my law in their inward parts, and write it in their hearts; and will be their God, and they shall be my people.

Notice that the law was not prophesied to be done away, but rather to be “put into our hearts and minds.”

In, (Is. 42:21) we find another prophecy concerning Christ and the law. It reads, (v.21) The LORD is well pleased for his righteousness' sake; he (Jesus) will magnify the law, and make it honourable. When you magnify something you enlarge it and bring it out more of its detail and richness. Jesus revealed the fulfillment of this prophecy when he explained, (Mat.5:27-28) (v.27) Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: (v.28) But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart. By magnifying the law and making it honorable, the spiritual intent of the law is now emphasized which goes far beyond the mere the physical intent. God has raised His standards, not lowered them! All God ever wanted was what was best for us!

His posts reminded me of a certain false teacher from Christianityboards, who had the moniker there of "Behold!".

I am not a moderator, so I did not ban him....but I think that the Lord may have given some of the moderators some strong discernment to chase off false teachers.

Behold was a definite teacher of gnosticism...he taught clearly and adamantly against the scriptures (specifically against 1 John 1:7-9).

That was his main gig. His whole teaching revolved around denying those verses.

But to maintain your grace you must keep the law.

Grace is maintained through faith and faith alone (Romans 1:17, Galatians 3:1-3, Colossians 2:6).

If someone has faith in Jesus Christ, they have an unshakable identity....that they are righteous...even when they blow it (Romans 4:5).

1Co 10:13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
1Co 10:14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.

Here it states that God will not suffer a person to be tempted above what they can handle and give them an escape from the temptation.

So what is the excuse.

Gal 5:16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.
Gal 5:17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.
Gal 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

Here it states a Spirit led life can abstain from sin for they shall not fulfill the lusts of the flesh.

So what is the excuse.

The man Christ Jesus overcame sin by the power of the Holy Spirit and the saints have that same power available to overcome sin.

So what is the excuse.

2Ti 3:4 lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.
2Ti 3:7 Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth.

The truth is they love to enjoy sin more than they love God and deny the Spirit to lead them and never understanding the truth to be Christlike.

They say they cannot abstain from sin so they can enjoy sin and believe they are right with God but they are not led of the Spirit but the flesh.

Heb 10:26 For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins.

If a person lives in sin then the blood of Christ will not wash the sin away for God will not take away a sin they hold on to.

When we sin we forfeit repentance until we repent and mean it and get rid of the sin.
