My date was terrible! I don't understand it. I even had a relationship coach...
I hear she does work on Red Hat Linux projects and Red Hat hired a relationship coach for her too. Her relationship coach's advice was "Rent a lot of movies like Hitch. Guys really like those."

Went on a blind date arranged by my friend recently. We chatted for a while over coffee and some pasta. He is studying to get his PhD. He is smart and we had a lot to talk about, but I was not attracted to him maybe because he is 8 years younger than me.
I am a flat 40 years old, so 8 years difference doesn't sound strange to me.
It might not seem strange to you when you get that age either, and you might kick yourself over missing out because of age.
Do your future self a favor: Burn it in your memory today, just exactly how weird it would be at your age to date a guy 8 years older. When you get old enough that 8 years doesn't seem much of a gap, you will not kick yourself nearly as hard about missing your chance.

8 years older is better than younger since it takes longer for men to mature. I was not really that disappointed since I had no expectations. Just enjoyed the time meeting someone and seeing if we could find that connection.
I don't think people should worry about age, especially what others think about it!
Yes there is nothing to worry about. People are free to make choices since they will face the consequences. They can worry later.

As a teenage girl with a protective father...nope haven't been on a date in all my life
Hey, but that's not so bad...I'm only sixteen...but most my age have started dating already...i dont know...i'm not out there to see...lol
Buuuut not to sure how i'll react if i do get asked out when i start socialising more....i'm crazy about boys at this stage...i can faint...literally...and im super shy when i'm near a guy my age....it creeps me out!!!
I had this one experience where this guy popped out his head out his window of his house and asked my age. He propbably was around 15...im not sure...buuut..he was curious...coz he was looking at me...i was playing with my sibs in the neighbourhood....13 at the time.....and well....i guess he was curious...idk...but i took it seriously

I can understand how you feel just from the opposite gender. I never really dated anyone until I was 18, not due to any sort of overprotective parents, just me being super shy. Looking back on my high school days not a single couple is still together so I wouldn't worry about dating at your age.
When you find the right person you'll just know. When I met my current girlfriend and future wife both of us kind of had an idea super early on that we were meant for one another.
And as for the guy asking your age the story just doesn't sit right with me, sure be happy someone took interest in you but it just feels strange. Oh and once you're older you'll understand that your father is right about being protective just something I've noticed that as I get older things my parents did make more and more sense. Guess it's my brain preparing to have children one day.

Given how complicated, emotionally complex and the sheer effort a relationship can demand, I would not support a teenager in a relationship.
I don't think I would have gotten through my education if I was dating at that time.
Currently, with my SO and I (we are the same age and not teenagers) - we make time for each other, give each other space, consider the other person's needs and it's been our year of adjustment together.
We've been through many ups and downs - power struggles, rehashing whether we are good together and accepting each other's flaws.
It's not easy. I will be honest, with the amount of stress, I couldn't have gotten through without God. It's very hard to focus on other important areas of life - like work, career or studies when you have a relationship that is not stable.
But kids will be kids. I am sure many teens will fall into a relationship. It will mature some children but if not dealt with correctly, for the most part there will be harm and repercussions.
Emotional damage from relationships is real. A break up however silly has significant impact which can transcend into other areas of your life.
So a stranger's opinion on the internet doesn't really count - but FWIW if you have parents who are watching out for you, you are blessed. That's the best. My parents protected me too and were not approving of dating while in school or college. I will always be grateful to them for that.

Last weekend my SO and I had dinner with my father. I am meeting his parents in a month. Both our sets of parents don't live near us.
I do have a date this evening. We will be going to our favorite taco place/pub to celebrate his promotion at work.

I haven't been on a date in over 2 years and before that ONE date it was 8 years. lol
But all those dates I've been on (about 4) were terrible. I don't know if I wanna date anymore.
I really like the "courtship" idea that Joshua Harris talks about in his book "I Kissed Dating Goodbye" but I'm beginning to think I'm too old for that already.
