If they had nice personalities and were respectful, I would be nice to them and smile back. If they seemed snobby or fake in any way, I'd just be my old shy self (same as with anyone else), and keep to myself.

I know I'm not a dude but I wanted to answer anyway. :p

Welp, I've made myself out to look like a judgmental Christian; my job here is done. *dusts off hands and walks away*

Don't be hard on yourself. This is an open discussion, not a "who-has-the-best-answer-contest". :)

I take this personally, years ago when I was living out of my car, I was denied from a church because of my appearence, Jesus made deciples out of societies rejects and walked amoung the lowest of the low, the greatest king to ever walk the earth cared about beggars thieves and prostitutes, what right do we have to judge those who come to church

I kind of think it is, there are bad answers, the 'un-christian answers'. I should have done what the other poster did, and not touched this thread with a 10 foot poll.

The correct answers are up there, it gave you a chance to speak out against those who would reject them

Isn't it our JOB to bring in the undesireable people to hear the word of God? Why do you think small storefront churches are so popular? Often street people are welcomed with open arms

Is this addressed to me or the thread in general, because like I mentioned before, I was responding in context that these were long-time members

Yes but unfortunately so many churches are immersed in social structures and anyone who isn't inside of the norm never really feels welcome. I personally think giving a homeless person something to eat and drink, putting a few bucks in his pocket, and saying "God Bless You" does a lot of good, doing work out on the street....people in bad situations like that do not forget such acts of kindness.

Exactly, if you weren't wearing the best clothes are you going to be more comfortable going to the little church, and being welcomed,or going to the giant church and having snobs look at you, one of the big churches here, I was rejected for membership, because I didn't make enough money

I'm with Zero.

I would probably ignore them. (or more specifically how they dress)

As a guy, I would make little to no effort to get to know them. I feel that if they are here for Christ a woman or a staff member can help them.

In most churches that specialize in having services as a Primary vehicle: There is the mid service hand shake and the catch you at the door on the way to lunch meet and greet. Everything else we learn about someone is from their appearance, which isn't entirely fair. Unless you are one of those kind hearted hang around and make the new people feel welcome types, they have to fit the bill to feel welcome.

When I invite people to church, I invite them to my small group first. Its personal, less intimidating and they don't have to feel like they are on display for being new. I can bring homeless people, women, teens etc, without fear of them feeling the stare of the masses cooking them in their pews.

Hmmm, my response would depend on what they say they believe.

If they are non-Christians, we aren't to judge, Jesus accepted any and people have to learn what they are doing is sin before they can stop it.

If they say there are Christians, however, I think you probably need to work out how solid they are and approach them based on this. I think this probably a females job though I guess a male pastor could end up with it.

If they consider themselves Christian I think there is room to tell them to dress appropriately as they may be causing the men to stumble.

Everything should be done in a non-judgemental and friendly manner though. :)

You just described what i saw in churches in OC CA regularly.
I would likely not approach them at all.
I don't care for that kind of appearance and don't care for tat's on women, though in general i see nothing wrong with them. I would have to be comfortable with them and know them well enough before i would bring up anything about their appearance. As strangers its not my responsibility, more that of the church leadership.

I would resond with His love shown, howeverHe wants me to show it . The Lord leads. 'They' are in your midst for a reason, and, so, go, follow Him. Pray, thibk, act, His way, by His love, it's all about 'love,' isn't it? God says all the commandments hinge on this word, 'love,' shown, FIRST, to Him, in everything you say and do, and, second, shown to others. :)

Hey, God uses people, too, in all different ways, NEVER judge another by their cover, for those two girls could have some AWESOME street ministry, the tats could be led to be put on their skin by Him :) just judge them by their relationship, love, belief in Christ, their spirit is of Him, is it not, once born again :) 1 John 4:1-4 is good read. Their life to Him comitted, ask them. That will tell you all :)

Hey Everyone,

Something's been on my mind.

Here's the scenario: there are two new girls at your church. They sit in the front, are dressed in miniskirts, loud makeup, wild hair, and stiletto heels. They wear cheap-chic clothes and carry the kind of designer bags you buy at a $20 purse party held at the house of some distant acquaintance. Broad tattoos decorate various parts of their bodies, and let's be honest... they are both very attractive and know how to show it off. Their looks obviously scream, "Look at me," and not necessarily in a good way.

But they listen attentively to the sermon and smile pleasantly at you when you pass by. As a Christian single, you may have an opportunity to talk to them that another married Christian may not have.

What are you thinking about them and what do you do?

(I promise to tell you who these girls are in a sequel to this thread after we hear some answers... stay tuned! :))

I've not read the others, so hopefully I'm not repeating anyone. But honestly, my feelings are this is a perfect opportunity to be Christ's love to these two girls. I hope, that I would try to treat them nicely and get to know them. It's possible that these two girls have never been to church before, much less around people who are truly Christian and so may not understand that they should be respected and admired not for what they look like on the outside, but who God made them to be. If they are listening, it sounds to me as if God is working on their lives, and drawing them to Him. In His time, He will make the changes they need. We, however, should set an example, and be willing to answer questions they may ask, and not look down on them simply because they might not know the Bible at all, or else very little.

And the things I checked in the post, I hope are what my response would be.

I heard a brilliant true story of a young woman who become a christian and starting attending church.

She was a brand new Christian and did not know much, only that God had died and rose for her and had forgiven her.
The problem was that she continued to wear her low tops, short skirts and continued to swear - swearing was her every
day language and she did not know any different.

Various people asked the pastor to have a quiet word with her but he refused and said God has accepted her just
as she was and so should they. That God would deal with her and she was just a baby in Christ.

At one point various women in the church offered to give the pastor clothes for her, but he refused them.

Then about 6 months or so after she started to attend, she was in a womens meeting and reading the word of
God and she suddenly realised that maybe she needed to dress more modestly. She stood up and
said that she felt God was speaking to her and that she needed to dress in a different way but that she
did not have any money to buy new clothes.

Immediately all the women in the church said they had spare clothes for her and within the next few days she
had enough modest clothes to fill a wardobe.

While all the other women in the church just breathed a sigh of relief, she was just so grateful towards these
women and was able to testify to the goodness of God. Her language improved also as she came to
understand more about God.

Just imagine how crushed as a new Christian she might have been if people had been critical of her
in those early days.

In all honesty, wild hair and tattoos are kinda my thing...I would probably ask them out. I mean Ive never been one to think churches have a dress code anyways. As long as things that dont need to be seen are covered and youre not wearing anything offensive then go for it.

I like Jordache's approach.

Honestly, nothing phases me personally, regarding extreme dress choices. I see a lot of it. If they're truly trying to seek God, with a sincere heart, they'll probably figure it out.

First of All, I'd like to thank seoulsearch for another extensive poll. Good thing it's multiple choice!

I would pray for guidance on how to deal with the situation, while being sure to show these women love and grace.

There are a lot of psychological explanations as to why women dress in this way, which I will not go into at this moment. Just show them love because I am almost certain that it is agape love that they seek. :)

Men should not approach in my opinion. However, women most certainly should and give them love and acceptance. The more they come to church and continue to grow in God's love and His word, the better they will learn how to dress appropriately. Girls who dress like this need attention. Giving them love and teaching them the word of God...and showing that they are beautiful just as they are without all that stuff. In time, they will learn not only acceptance from those who give it, but also learn acceptance from God and His love for them. That will heal their need to dress for attention.
