Interesting thread! Yes Narnia seemed to have a big influence on me when I was young and I did imagine my wardrobe as a portal to another world, I actually made a painting that I stuck in the back of it that led you into some caves where the taniwha lived but you would go through them to enter the primeval forest.

But after watching the movie WAR room I changed it to be a prayer closet so I have scripture on there and cushions and inspiring scenes of nature.

And after reading Marie Kondos book Spark Joy...I actually organised my wardrobe so that all my clothes are hung in order of size and colour. haha

I may have crawled into the kitchen cabinets to hide when I was young, at some point in time I either outgrew that or figured out that it didn't work because the big pile of tupperware on the floor was kind of a dead giveaway.

I was 8 years old and Davy B was 7 and we were born on the same day a year apart. We were best friends before BFF was invented and on that warm morning in June we were playing in a dirt pile when both our lives changed forever, I guess akin to stepping in a magic wardrobe.

My house shared a driveway with another house owned by the Woodburn's; their house trailed off the right and ours to the left. and while me and Davy were moving dirt with our Tonka heavy equipment, a Tennessee Department of Corrections bus slowed down on the highway out front and turned onto our driveway. Davy B had a bad speech stuttder and said "Wh wh whwhwhat are ttthey ddoing?" I didn't have an answer as the bus rolled by my house and off the end of the driveway to the edge of the woods behind our house. Right behind it was another truck and trailer

Two uniformed police got off the bus followed by about a dozen prison inmates all dressed in white. They all huddled around the truck and trailer and gathered up all kinds of hand tools when one of the uniformed policemen walked over to where me and Davy B were "working". He kept getting bigger with every step and his sunglasses hid any expression on his face. He had a pith helmet on slung low over his forehead and an already well tanned face and hands. "Hiya boys" he said. The man seemed 8 feet tall. His greeting was lighthearted but his general demeanor never really pulled off a friendly tone. Davy B smartly said nothing. He was good at hiding his speech impediment when necessary. I asked what they were doing. The policeman cocked his head a little like he was confused and said "Why we're cutting a new road son".

(I'll finish this story in a bit)
I won't bore anyone with the rest of this story, only to say the portal Davy B and I took to our other world happened when I befriended one of the inmates over that summer. We called him Scarface, but when I met him up close it turned out the scars on his face were cut by the sun and not knives at all. I brought the guy some of my dad's cigarettes on a few occasions and one day in late July I was confronted by that hulk of a guard whose name was Officer Bullock. I could see my reflection in his sunglasses when he grilled me about "givin' them inmates somethin' they ought'n to have?" I lied and told him I didn't.

Later when the work was done my Dad asked Officer Bullock if one of the inmates could take some trash up to the highway to get picked up. Ole Scarface was picked for the duty and as he took our garbage cans, he got my attention and I could see him put something on the cement block we used to keep the lids on. After they left I found that Scarface had left what I thought was a quarter, but it wasn't. It was a St. Christopher medallion.

I thought it had great power and I told Davy about it. Davy was going to a new school the next fall and he said they were going to help him with his sp-sp-speech, so I gave it to him and told him it was going to help him.

Turns out Davy was actually going to a private school for gifted kids. And they did help him with his speech. And he also went to Vanderbilt University and finished his residency at the hospital there and is now a practicing primary care physician in a group practice.

Can't say any of that has much to do with a dimestore medallion, but I can say it taught me about the power of faith.

I imagine this to be very much like prophecy. As I step into the wardrobe and enter a time where I am walking in the promises of God for my life. I have peace, I have love and I love. I am loved. Hand in hand with my wife, inseparable. Affectionate and adoring. Me, healthy and whole. Confident. A pillar of strength, and peace. Sharing in the beauty of love. Ministering into the lives of the innumerable; giving wisdom where needed, prophecy in hope. Songs of deliverance. Carrying the heart of God through intimacy in knowing His voice. I cry to see the faithfulness of God. To see that He equipped me for I am His. To see that He did indeed grant me the desires of my heart.

I see this like prophecy. We see what is, but the question remains: How? If it is true what I have heard, if what I see is to come, how then does it come to pass? For if I look in a mirror I might be dissuaded (God forbid), disappointed, and deceived, but if I look to the Lord, I have victory.

The wardrobe for me would be to step into the future, to no longer be in the pain I am in now. I yet grieve in the present, I weep. How will I ever have peace, love, and a voice? May God open my eyes, and lead me. Show me how. Show me now.

my brother who seems a bit obssessed with antique wooden furniture did buy a wardrobe that looked like the one in Narnia, he put it in the guest bedroom that ALREADY had a built in wardrobe.
It doesnt have much in it, although I think I put my old soft toys in there for safe keeping. I may need to give them an airing next time I go over.

I enter the wardrobe..... and discover it's a Tardis in disguise. Only problem is I have an infinite amount of space in which to look for the instruction manual (if it even exists in this dimension).

Myself. 🙂 The Lord has spoken promises to me and shown me (in dreams and words from the Lord) His plans, a hope and future. It’s a battle as I work through fiery darts, and the biggest attack lately has been disappointment. I press on... and ask the Lord to keep my hope alive. To give me strength and not let me grow weary, in this time of endurance.

If I am honest with myself, I believe in God, but I don’t think I believe in myself. 😔 That is why the mirror can dissuade, disappoint, and lead to deception. But if I look to God, I can at least believe that He will provide what I lack or awake what may be dormant.

Thank you BlackLily for this creative thread! It gave me an opportunity to remind myself of what God has said. It’s good to remind ourselves of His promises and words. Sometimes we endure “with the joy set before” us, as Christ did with us in mind. I suppose this is why having a vision is important. What motivates you to persevere? The dream. The vision. The hope.

I’d like to read, in words, your place through the wardrobe BlackLily. I believe I saw you post a picture, but take us on an adventure! 😁

I enter the wardrobe and arrived at neverland and flew around with Peter pan. Then I saw another wardrobe and I ended up in Italy. Then after Italy, I rode a train and had a blast exploring the entire Europe.

I'd like to write my adventure here, but I am not sure if I can in other language... english is not easy for me 😄
I am thankful to you for your words here. You don't know but each word, each story, are wardrobe doors that take me away from my sadness... Thank you all!

C.S.Lewis's wardrobe made way for Narnia ... To what incredible place, did you know, would you like your wardrobe to make way? It doesn't matter if this is a place that you stayed in your past, maybe in childhood, or if it is a simple place where you just feel at peace, or maybe that place is someone who makes you feel alive wherever you are, maybe it is one moment when you wouldn't mind living for eternity ... I hope your words will transport me to this place for a moment. So take my hand and let's go into the wardrobe.
The era of Jesus ministry, it sounds so natural on this forum, but i would love to see Jesus at work and hearing him preach, i would ask more about the unforgivable sin, and leave no room for doubts.
