Hello everyone,

You can call me Kam. I was in a serious, long-term relationship for almost a decade. He was Muslim, and I am Christian. We were deeply in love, but for a long time, I had been feeling convicted about the relationship. I tried to ignore it and even wrestled with God over it lol, but eventually, I surrendered and gathered the courage to end the relationship.

I have peace in the sense that I’ve been surrendering this desire to God and trusting Him with the outcome, but I’ve been struggling to cope with the loss. Even though I feel at ease with my decision and trust God with the outcome, the pain of losing someone I loved so deeply is still there.

I don’t really have friends or anyone I feel comfortable talking to about this. I’m not entirely comfortable opening up to strangers about it in too much detail, either. I guess I’m here because I needed a place to vent, find some encouragement, and hopefully connect with others through fellowship.

Hi Kam.
First, I'm really sorry you're carrying that kind of loss.
Ten years is a long time to share your life, your hopes, and your future with someone.
Even when you know you made the right decision, it still hurts.
Obedience to God doesn't somehow switch off grief.
Honestly, what stands out to me is that you didn't make this decision lightly.
You wrestled with it, prayed through it, and eventually surrendered it to God.
That tells me this wasn't a reaction.
It was an act of faith.
I think sometimes Christians feel guilty for grieving after making a godly choice, as if peace and pain can't exist together.
But they can.
You can trust God completely and still miss the person you loved.
Those aren't contradictions.
And for what it's worth, I don't think you're as alone as you feel.
There are a lot of believers who have obeyed God at great personal cost and then sat wondering, "Okay Lord... now what?"
The waiting can be harder than the decision itself.
Right now I wouldn't put pressure on yourself to figure out the rest of your life.
You've just walked through a major loss.
Give yourself permission to grieve it.
Let God heal what needs healing.
The fact that you're seeking fellowship instead of abandoning your convictions says a lot about where your heart is.
One thing I've learned is that God often does some of His deepest work in those in-between seasons when the old chapter has ended and the new one hasn't started yet.
They're uncomfortable, but they're rarely wasted.

So welcome. Vent when you need to.
Share as much or as little as you're comfortable sharing.
And remember this: choosing Christ over something you deeply wanted is not evidence that God has forgotten you.
It's often evidence that you're learning to trust Him in a way you never had to before.
I'll be praying that the Lord gives you not only peace about the decision, but also comfort in the loss.
Those are two different gifts, and it sounds like you could use both right now. ❤️

I understand about ending the relationship but in the bible, it also states that it is possible for a husband to become a Christian by the observations and actions of the wife. Now, does not sound like you were legally married but it appears that you had a common-law marriage.

If you are searching to find encouragement and connect with others through fellowship you have come to the right place. As for venting, this site is a good place to do that. Occasionally, I do a bit of venting myself.

Glad to have you onboard with us. Welcome to CC.
