When I was in college, my roommates and I were driving down the main street of the town. The driver saw a man and a woman hogtying a girl. i.e. They had pinned her to the ground, face down, his foot was on the girl's back, and her arm was yanked straight up to him.
We stopped to help the girl being kidnapped in broad daylight. But when we got there everyone, including the girl, looked at us as if to say, "What's your problem?"
The woman said they were group home parents for a well known teen-girl's group home in the next town up. (About 1.5 miles from where they were.) The girl on the ground had runaway and they were grabbing her to take her home.
Much to our surprise the girl seemed to agree with this, and silently waited for them to pick her up, before she climbed into the van herself.
When hubby and I were dating we went to a nearby park to "watch the submarine races." (First time I heard that expression, I really expected to see submarines racing in the river. lol)
We heard a girl screaming for help, so he ran to help her. (They were over a ridge, so the rest of the story is what he told me afterward.) He cleared the ridge to see a guy knocking a girl to the ground. He shouted to stop, the man paused to see who was shouting, which gave the girl enough time to stand up and clock the guy. After that she spent the next minute yelling at future-hubby to mind his own business. He came back to the car.
Never assume what you are seeing is the whole of the story.
