Dear Liber: Please do not accuse people of things they did not say.

If you read the first post in this thread you will see there was no mention of trying to slyly sneak christian stuff into a school bus. We just want some songs here that have a better message than the average secular rap song.

Now if you were talking to ME... what you said might be a bit more on point, because my first suggestions were made from the same direction you were talking about. That was my bad.

I should have suggested Tony Vincent instead.

cool song :) and I agree

gee what's up with these long post can't people just respond with a song like the poster was asking for without the two cent rules makes no sense.

How about cliff Richard millennium prayer. It's only a pop sing you can say :)

Or the song from Joseph Prince of Egypt - that's just a song from a
kids animated film - absolutely love this version by the way, it makes me cry.

Hillsong would have alot of stuff that would fit your criteria I am guessing, and lots of music to choose from, very peaceful. Might i suggest a 'Mix' of popular songs with a christian song with a good hook worked in between them, so that they go away humming the tune. ??? Good luck and Good onya for wanting to do this, and CARING ENOUGH about them to do this. Well done !!! :)

Because your wife is working for a government entity, it's her responsibility to respect the separation of church and state. This is in respect to both Christians and non-Christians. If your wife plays Christian songs to children on her bus, then what right will you use to confront government workers who push other religions such as Islam? Even if she had no qualms with the hypocrisy, to try and subtly introduce God to children without them or their parents realizing it is not the proper way to proselytize.
Forget about respecting church and state and just play some Beatle's and Rolling Stones.

Matthew Parker is upbeat, positive-themed, poppy electronic dance music.

he's definitely a Christian, and even though he does some praise music, the bulk of his songs aren't in that category and aren't overtly evangelistic, so it's kinda along the lines of what you're looking for. catchy, easily accessible, inoffensive but from the perspective of a Christian, 'reading between the lines' you're still going to see Jesus in him :)

example below -- and he's got plenty of tracks on spotify/pandora/etc

good stuff IMO and i usually don't like music this poppy, so i'm happy to recommend him whenever i can

i'm not all that familiar with Hillsong, but aren't they pretty obviously praise & worship music? maybe they have a much bigger catalogue than i'm aware of.. but from the OP, Hillsong is one of the first groups i would cross off the list!

if i understood right, OP is looking for music that isn't very 'churchy' but at the same time isn't worldly

Matt Maher Alive Again

I woke up in darkness surrounded by silence
Oh where, where have I gone?
I woke to reality losing its grip on me
Oh where, where have I gone?

'Cause I can see the light before I see the sunrise

You called and You shouted
Broke through my deafness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again

You shattered my darkness
Washed away my blindness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again

Late have I loved You
You waited for me
I searched for You
What took me so long?

I was looking outside
As if love would ever want to hide
I'm finding I was wrong

'Cause I could feel the wind before it hits my skin

You called and You shouted
Broke through my deafness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again

You shattered my darkness
Washed away my blindness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again, I'm alive again

'Cause I want You, yes, I want You, I need You
And I'll do whatever I have to just to get through
'Cause I love You, yeah, I love You

You called and You shouted
Broke through my deafness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again

You shattered my darkness
Washed away my blindness
Now I'm breathing in and breathing out
I'm alive again

Matt Maher - Hold Us Together

It don't have a job, don't pay your bills
Won't buy you a home in Beverly Hills
Won't fix your life in five easy steps
Ain't the law of the land or the government?
But it's all you need

And love will hold us together
Make us a shelter to weather the storm
And I'll be my brother's keeper
So the whole world would know that we're not alone

It's waiting for you knocking at your door
In the moment of truth when your heart hits the floor
And you're on your knees

And love will hold us together
Make us a shelter to weather the storm
And I'll be my brother's keeper
So the whole world would know that we're not alone

This is the first day of the rest of your life
This is the first day of the rest of your life
'Cause even in the dark you can still see the light
It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright

This is the first day of the rest of your life
This is the first day of the rest of your life
'Cause even in the dark you can still see the light
It's gonna be alright, it's gonna be alright

Love will hold us together
Make us a shelter to weather the storm
And I'll be my brother's keeper
So the whole world would know that we're not alone

Manafest "Never Let You Go"

When you're awake and you can't believe your eyes
Cause all the truth that you knew has turned to lies
When you're scared and you can't see past a day
Remember who holds tomorrow
Know his love will light your way

Hold on when everything is shaking
Stand strong when the ground is falling through
Reach out to my hand in the darkness
That's holding you

I'll be your peace in the waiting
Your strength when you're broken on the floor
Hold on, it's all worth fighting for
Cause I will never let you go
I will never let you go

When you look in the mirror and you run away
Cause all you see are the scars from yesterday
When the parade goes by and you feel alone
Never lose hope to sorrow
You're closer than you know

Hold on when everything is shaking
Stand strong when the ground is falling through
Reach out to my hand in the darkness
That's holding you

I'll be your peace in the waiting
Your strength when you're broken on the floor
Hold on it's all worth fighting for
Cause I will never let you go
I will never let you go

When the road is hard and your faith is shaken
Never look back on the steps you're taking
You're more to me than you could ever know

Hold on when everything is shaking
Stand strong when the ground is falling through
Reach out to my hand in the darkness
I'm holding you

I'll be your peace in the waiting
Your strength when you're broken on the floor
Hold on it's all worth fighting for
Cause I will never let you go...
I will never let you go
I will never let you go...

You're more to me than you could ever know.

King of my Heart by John Mark McMillan

"Let the King of my heart
Be the mountain where I run
The fountain I drink from
Oh-oh, He is my song
Let the King of my heart
Be the shadow where I hide
The ransom for my life
Oh-oh, He is my song......."

My wife drives a school bus. She isn't allowed to "push religion" on kids. She is trying to play music on her bus with a Christian message without being TOO obvious.

It's pretty sick that they can listen to radio trash about sex and drugs but the state will not let them play songs that talk about God.

She does but it can't be every song. Hence why I need the type of songs in the title.
I know it's been years since you posted this but I have some songs that could help: Creature by Half alive (this one does mention Jesus at the end though), Soldier poet king by the Oh hellos, and I think no greater love by Lazuli might be okay too, I'll let you know if I find anymore!

I hear a lot of music like that. The idea of current message music and current style music is to express something contemporary, and the morals of it, Christian or not, depend on the characters and beliefs of the writers. The classic example of "timely commentary in songwriting" is the song "Six O'clock News" by Simon and Garfunkel, and if you check on the context and time of writing and release of that, as well as who they know and where they were when they wrote it, having listened to the record as a sequential song cycle, you know it's about the Harlem riots.

The problem with looking for music with Christian morals that wasn't specifically composed for church service and lyrically about the life of Christ or composed as devotional prayer in song is that it will always be topical, and therefore bound to both the time and the place of the events it was written about. A mature adult can find that kind of music, but it's not easy. If the music is basically civil, composed for aesthetic purposes or just atempo, there will be other factors to it.

For example, I had a ninth-grade teacher who though U2 were Christian, and a 12th grade classmate who thought the same about Midnight Oil, but when I listened to both bands I heard a nationalist message in both cases, and morally the two were like the proverbial apples and oranges.

You joking?

I recently went through my collection looking for just such songs as this thread requests, to play where I work. I got a rather large number. They probably won't be outdated any time soon... as far as words. The music genre, the style of the music sound, will almost certainly be antiquated first.

I haven't dumped all the songs in this thread because it is such an old thread. Surely the OP has moved on by now.
