Here's my biggest problem with the "local flood" theory: why didn't God just tell him and his family to move? There'd also be no reason to take tons of animals if it was just "Noah's little universe".

No, I'm not. The flood covered almost the whole earth. There were a couple other people with boats, and a few who managed to find a tree on top of a mountain, etc. The world flood legends describe such things, and Angela has some evidence in her post that is consistent with this. (Relic tropical forests)

Dr. Kent Hovind is an amazing man of god with a vast knowledge of science.
the local flood theory is a farce and easily refutable, god hates sin so much he destroyed the whole world.

Hovind is discredited, with a major lack of qualifications in regards to Biology. His work is known to be poor and conveys a vast lack of knowledge regarding theories like evolution. Not only does he recieve major criticism from evolutionists and many other qualified scientists but even many young earth creationists state his work is not true and is very questionable. I recommend avoiding his work if you take science seriously.
Here's a question for the non believers. If Noah's ark was excavated and proof was provided that in fact a flood covered the earth would you believe that God had anything to do with it? There was an outline on a mountain in Turkey of an ark shape with the proper dimensions. They did some xray like testing and found it had compartments around the inside of the shell. Before they could do more testing the government kicked them out. I have been told that the oil and the fossils could be explained by a sudden covering of vegetation and animals. If people and animals have existed so long where is everyone? There should be billions more people if we started reproducing even ten thousand years ago. The sun would have been too intense a million years ago for life on this planet. It looses a little heat every day. The moon gets a little further from the earth every year. I saw a program that claims the earth must have ejected the moon 2 billion years ago. You think we are grasping straws? People see pictures of the succession of cavemen to modern man and figure wow that looks probable. However there is no missing links found other than in artwork. The closest anyone can find was a couple of bone fragments then drew in the rest. All of the dating methods have been PROOVED inaccurate. Instead of trying to convince Christians they are wrong spend a little more time proving yourselves right because we don't have the monopoly on faith.

As always..... Let's go back to the beginning for facts, then use ALL of God's words to find an answer and prove what we teach;
Gen.6
[13] And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.
[17] And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.
Now just how inclusive is, "...ALL FLESH..."? Let's continue....

[4] For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.
Again God tells us that, "...every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth."
Again....that is very inclusive. But let's read more....
[13] In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;
We have no record of any other individuals entering into the are other than the (8) above.
So....according to God's own words;
"The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth."
"And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die."

How is it possible that anyone else could have survived? Unless, of course, the true and living God forgot about a few people that maybe hid where God could not see or find them. Either that or God lied!

[20] Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.
[21] And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:
[22] All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.
[23] And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.
How absolute is that. God said the ONLY living substance that breathed air were destroyed except for those that were with Noah in the ark! But there is yet more....let's read....
2 Peter 2
[5] And spared not the old world, but saved Noah the eighth person, a preacher of righteousness, bringing in the flood upon the world of the ungodly;
How many times does God have to tell us that He destroyed ALL flesh that breathed air with the flood other than the (8) people that were on the ark?
So....we either believe the word of God.....or make up our own stories and go with them!
I'm going with the word of God and the (8) people on the ark!
Oh yeah....and one more thing....we are to use scriptures to prove our doctrine...not a Chinese flood date. Let's again read where we are to receive doctrine;

Faith IS belief and no evidence is required! How can one who has no faith tell others who has faith what faith is. Thats like a small infant child trying to tell a mechanic how to fix whats under the hood and thinking they are the expert by telling the mechanic they don't know what they are doing! ABSURD logic!
I believe without seeing PERIOD! I believe because the Word tells me and my God is faithful and never EVER lies! He is ALWAYS perfect and His word lives forever! His miracles are everlasting and i would be dead without Him literally! I think you mean zebra 'mussels'. Zebra muscles would've long decayed before discovering them in Lake Erie. At first I thought you meant Lake Eyre (as in South Australia).

i can only say what I said before. The word "all" in Hebrew, is not definite as it is in English. You cannot use the Hebrew word "all" to get these results you have posted. It is not even a separate word in Hebrew, but a preposition. Look it up in the original, you will see what I mean. The word "all" is not in the Greek that you quoted, where it would be definitive if included. It is the assumption of the word "all" meaning in Hebrew as it does in English, that makes the flood story impossible as it is being taught. The genetics, the rate of rainfall, and the tribal histories simply do not support it. Once you get this problem fixed, you can build a new theory that the flood is real (actually deluge - mabol, different Hebrew word), it happened in 3122, and the pieces of the puzzle start falling into place.

2 Peter 2

God's word tells us that the old world was not spared, except that of the 8th person, which the above scripture says was Noah. So who were the other (7) that also were saved?
"In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah's wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;"
So God saved Noah, the 8th person, and the other (7), the rest of Noah's family, but did NOT spare the old world.

You're right, "all" is not there in any form. That's my point. How can this verse possibly imply that everyone else died? Where does it say there was no ninth or tenth person? Where does it say God did not spare the world from "complete death"? It could just as easily mean the whole world was punished. Every flood legend agrees that the survivors came back to a ruined world.

Rain cannot fall fast enough to cover the highest mountain. Do the math, it's 6 inches per minute non-stop 40 days and nights. It can't rain that fast. Try it in a shower with a cup sometime, you'll get the idea.
That's why it's not a flood. It's a deluge. The word is mobal, from the same root word as Jubillee, Jubal, and Tubal-Cain. The Bible has it right, we explain it wrong.
That's right....the Biblical flood was local, and not global.
After all, humanity was localized to the Mesopotamian plain -thus, to wipe-out humanity, a local flood is all that was required.
