Awww thanks Jullianna! :D I never actually left though, just for a few days, and the other days I just didn't have anything worthy to be said haha

kayM, Proverbs says in many ways many times how good it is to listen to others, for gaining understanding, to gain wisdom.
May God bless you for all your listening to Him through others and for commenting as you be so led as He leads you. :)

I'm always happy to see you too, Karla. :)

Aww you guys are great :) I'm always happy to see you too Mr. Gabe

Indeed, sometimes I need time to stop and listen for a moment and also to examine myself...may God bless you too Mr. Green! :)

After the past couple of days I feel even more strongly about being able to tell by their fruit than by anything else. It is very easy for someone to SAY they are a christian. Doesn't mean they actually are...

Here away to segue into that question: "Do you go to church around here?" A lot of times, people will show their heart when you ask them this question, and those who do not believe in God or are Christians, will be very evident, especially if they hate God. Even those who go to church, a lot of times you can tell that they are probably not Christians, just because of the way they react to that question.

I AGREE! the way people react to ''the God topic'', even if it's just an awkward look followed by another awkward silence can tell you a lot....

I myself try to introduce my faith in a conversation that makes sense ( with any person, I'm not talking about dates)...I must admit that sometimes I overthink it too much because I want to give a ''perfect testimony'' and I end up not saying anything at all ( horrible huh?). I think it also depends on the situation, if it feels natural to say it, then that's the time to say it.

Ah, that's a good question to ask. And can easily lead into questions about their relationship with God, if need be. I'm the type of person that, if I'm wondering something, I'll be itching to just ask and have a discussion with someone. And when it comes to faith, I'm very apt to talk and talk when someone asks...

I once tried that. I was asking questions about family and such, and... well, I ended up blurting out, "Do you believe in God?" (smooth, smooth :D. But it was out in the open, which was good). I followed with, "Well, do you believe in Jesus?"

Our past experiences, we can learn how we react and how to make some things more or less automatic, you know? But ya can't always tell how you'll feel or react in the moment.

This is a good thread. For me I have developed high standards for faith after having been forced to end a bad (and verbally and physically abusive) relationship with a person who not only claimed to be Christian, but went to Holy Bible College and claimed to be more mature in the faith than me. So the type of test I would impose would be to see how willing she is to praying with me. If we're close enough for me to be considering her for wooing then she should feel comfortable enough to pray with me anytime anywhere! There should be an excitement about praying because I believe people who are close to God will take any excuse to talk to Him! For me, I would skip asking if someone is Christian and go straight to looking at their fruits of the Spirit that show if they're saved. Gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, love, joy, peace, self-control, kindness. Zealousness for God is numero uno on my list of priorities for a girlfriend, so I wouldn't beat around the bush about if someone is a Christian, I'd just straight up ask. I say that because I remember what attitude I believe Jesus wants us to have for Him. He said if anyone deny Him before men, then He would deny us before His Father. If someone isn't screaming Jesus Christ is everything, and I am nothing without Him, there's no way I'd be interested.

Hey, sometimes God wants us to get to the point.

I suppose you're right! It's just something to laugh at now, since it was mostly from social awkwardness that I would produce dramatic subject changes.

Ah. Many will claim to be living for God, but what of it if they do not show it- nor make an attempt to be living a more God-fearing life?

Sorry for all the double posts. My friend the edit button likes to inform me that my 5 minutes ran out, a lot :D.

Hahaha I don't see how that is wrong, as violakat said, I believe that God sometimes want us to get to the point (and I think some people like this too) :).
I've learned that people pay more attention to you when you look confident, when you really look like you believe what you talk about. I forgot where that verse is, but it says that people started listening to Paul because of his great confidence about the gospel. If we look awkward when we talk about it knowing that it's true, we are not giving it enough credit and honor with our hearts.
Anyway, I think it's awesome that you just blurted it out haha it's great to have that confidence. :)

One can't always know if another person you're interested in is a Christian. A person can seem all around nice and good for you, but then they do things that make you question their relationship with God, and if you can handle it. Also, just because someone claims to be Christian doesn't mean that they believe in God and in Jesus. Sometimes they just "inherit" their religion, and don't really think about it daily.

Those who have dated before (or will in the future), when do YOU usually ask the big question: Do you believe in God?

How have you gone about having this conversation?

Any stories?

A guy should not be nice around you and make you laugh the first time he meets you, he should almost immediately (I like that word by deadtosin) TELL YOU. I use CAPS for emphasis, can you TELL :D

BEevergreeen, take a look at my 'Guys, when do you ask...' thread for a clear answer of guys, well, at least the good guys of c.c., answering this question.

The answer to when YOU the girl should ask the guy 'Are you a Christian?'

Never !

The guy should ask you AT SOME POINT IN THIS MEETING you. How he can be meeting you is either by coincidence at, say, a library , grocery line or ?? And , you should NOT ever talk with a guy for 5-10 minutes and have him leave you without manning up and letting you know he believes in God through what vkat says, like telling you he goes to church , or, is just a believer. He NEEDS to tell you this the VERY first time he meets you, Beevergreen, or don't , don't , DON'T, give him a 2nd chance unless the Lord leads you different.. pray the MOMENT you are meeting guy, and, God WILL take over. With your permission, He will bless you and protect you.

I usually never ask, im very open about my faith, and because the way i talk the ppl can notice inmediatly that im a christian, so, its more common that that ppl who is christian too identify me inmediatly lol and sometimes we start befriend at work or somewhere else

there are some christians that i have found though, that have told me that they never say that they are christians because its kind of a secret and that they want that i dont talk about God with them in public, so i respect them and put little distance between them and me

but in both situations i never ask their spiritual status

Lizzietheone, you're so sweet, girl, and, I love the sincerity and insight of your many God answers, good answers, too, But this is talking about a guy (or girl) asking the opposite sex 'Are you a christian' at some time during a first ever meeting, I think , anyway that is what beevergreeen is saying .

The workplace situation , as I think you speak of above, is a good place to let the Lord lead. :)

You should not have to ask the guy this question of believing in God, the guy needs to be smart enough to ask you. And, 100% (10 out of 10) in my poll do of my thread I earlier speak of.

It just driVesaccountability straight into the conversation and God immediately shows up that way, just does. Follow Him. The Lord leads. :)

Usually, it's pretty easy to ask someone. "Hey, I was wondering, are you a Christian?"

...all the same, most of the time, people tell me they figure I'm Christian without ever asking, and in general, so can I for them.

If someone has a heart for Christ, they don't talk, act, or look quite like everyone else. That's been my experience anyway...

Asif!!!!!

Exactly. She (the girl we start talking to by a chance meeting) will know we are a Christian by the words we use in talking to them.

I can be wrong on my method but I just confidently , truly believe that God wants the guy to be the initiator. The girl should KEEP her heart hidden UNTIL the guy speaks up about God important in his life by something he says to her in this chance meeting.

If the guy she likes never brings up God in the conversation, she MUST walk. But , RIGHT before, I would walk, ladies, I would say these words to the guy: God bless.

If you want to witness, that will do it and IF the guy has already asked you out and you have said 'no' because he did not mention God in your convo, well, at least you let him know (witness) why :) and THAT 'God bless' could have him then open up he is a christian. Fine, let him apologize or whatever for notvtalkng about Godcthe whole time he talked to you. At that point, and, ladies,

you might like what I am about to say next....

The Lord leads but I say : Give the guy a second chance :)

Thanks for the compliments Green :)
But im talking too about when you meet guys in other places, im most of the time at work (and sometimes at the gym) so there is where i have meet some guys .

For example, last month, a guy went to the company to do a project for 3 months and we went to eat, and as i said im very opened about my faith, so my boss where asking me some doubts about what christians do or not do and what we as christians consider "sin" and what not (long story....), so this guy that was having lunch in the same table , heard the conversation and looked at me and said "oh you are christian, i am a christian too" and asked me about the denomination of my church and we started talking.

The other day i took a taxi to come back home after shopping and there was a lot of traffic and cars, so the guy started to talk about the weather and we ended talking about customs of the ppl, and he said that he didnt use to do some things that many ppl do because he was a christian, so i told him that i was christian too, he told me that he moved into the city few months ago and that he wasnt going in this moment to a church, so i invited him to my church.

Sometimes, though, i just feel that a guy i meet is christian, but i dont go and ask him, we usually start talking about what we do as a normal talk when you meet a person and start knowing them and if the guy is christian, there is a moment when it comes up to the conversation but in a natural way, i never push it and never rush into a conversation about God.

I ask when I realise that I simply can't tell by observation.

While I think that looking to see is better than asking to know, some people simply can't be seen for a Christian. No-one who knows me knows that I am, and it's not the product of secret-keeping, I do what I do quietly because I dislike attention, especially the fawning kind aka gratitude, it's just uncomfortable.

Some people do their deeds and simultaneously try to conceal or diminish them. I've often wondered if it's wrong, but the personality is what it is and won't change quickly, if it can change at all.

I think discerning this fact is a good way to determine compatibility so I would never make it the first question, partly because I'd be confident enough in the quality of the person if I was dating them, but also because I think the answer is deceiving anyway, as others say, 'Yes, I'm a Christian' tells you only that they know a slogan.

I see, wyle.
I see what you're saying with guy observing and assuming she's christian, I just don't think there is a time that the girl should have to bring up God to the guy and trying to figure it out from 'observation' as you say below is being cunning or controlling or just plain deceitful.

I just think the guy should bring up God in some way, doesn't have to take away from the conversation. Just fit it in somewhere somehow the Lord leads. :) Accountability for BOTH the guy and girl quickens with God put into the game, and, whether you want to believe it or not, there is gamesmanship when you get Heaven, guys, and start talking to a girl

Thanks for the compliments Green :)

Oh lizzietheone, I could compliment you, young lady , all day long :)

I see your situation now and perspective, thx for explaining it :) And, I just think a lady should HIDE her heart during a first meeting , noté please, I an NOT talking on a date, as I feel by the time you are going on a date the guy should have good you in FIRST MEETING that he is a Christian. My opinión.

Lizzie, i just feel that the guy needs to take the guesswork out of the first meetint and let girl know he follows God and the guy can do THAT in any number of subtle or not so subtle ways. The Lord leads. :)
