I'm 22 year old female. I've been looking for work, trying to get back into school I've gone through so much trial and error. I have a horrible relationship with my mother, disconnected from both sides of my family for various reasons. I have only two friends in my life , my fiance and my best friend ( who lives very far from me). I feel like have no support group to fall back on while I'm dealing with this depression. I was put on Zoloft but the side effects were intolerable , it made me feel like I had a terrible hangover for 3 days. I stopped taking the medication now I just feel stuck, I continue to go through every door I believe that God has opened for me only to have the devil push me back out into the unknown. I have no job, no money, no education, no transportation, no support group, and dwindling faith. Please pray for me I'm so lost and alone in life.
In reading your post a few things came to mind:
1) Clinical Depression is a recognised mental illness and so needs to be treated; when I read Christians making wide sweeping statements that 'antidepressants don't work' it is quite clear to me they just don't know what they are taking about!
In your case Zoloft gave you bad side effects, you need to contact your doctor straight away and tell him what is happening and to put you onto one that suits you, also be aware that antidepressants will take at least 3-4 weeks to work and so for the patient to feel any benefit from them.
The severity of your Clinical Depression will dictate how long you will be on antidepressants, do
NOT stop them after a few months because you are feeling a degree better, finish the course that your doctor recommends.
Also know that the Lord Jesus also experienced Clinical Depression during His earthly lifetime and so knows only to well how you feel and what you are going through, He is full of compassion and love for you and is interceding for you every second of every day! Heb 2v17,18, 4v15, 7v25.
A balanced approach to any sickness is to get treated by the medical profession AND prayer for healing from Pastor/Elders at the same time.
2) Do you belong to a living church, does your Pastor/Elders pray for the sick by anointing with oil and laying on off hands for healing (to fulfil James 5v14-18), if not, find such a church and ask for the Pastor/Elders to pray for healing for you.
3) Surround yourself with loving prayerful Christians who can pray you through this difficult time.
4) Are you sleeping with your fiance, for if you are this will be hindering your relationship with the Lord, the physical relationship between a man and woman (ie sex) is to be enjoyed within marriage?
5) In praying for you, I feel you will come though this, but it is going to take a bit of time, so use this difficult time to get close to the Lord Jesus, also, I feel the following Scripture (Joel 2v25) is relevant for you:
'And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten...'
