Hello! Is there already an "I'm leaving/I'm back" thread? If there is, can we sticky it somewhere so it's not buried? I've seen people create individual "goodbye" threads, I guess that's the current option?

Having a "say hello to new users" thread is awesome, and is easily found!

Anyway, if there's already an "I'm leaving/I'm back" thread, please consider sticky-ing it! Thanks! If there's not an existing thread like that, please consider adding it... then making it sticky lol. Thanks! :)

What's wrong with a returning user just making a thread in the new members forum, and say "hey JoeSchmoe is my new user name but I used to be (insert old user name)..

Well, that's an awful lot of new threads, isn't it? But that's not what I was referring to, I've seen lots of people that post "Hey, I'm going on vacation!" and stuff like that, it'd be nice to have it localized to one area, so that you are all caught up on who is "away" and who is "back." :)

Edit: Honestly, there's not a problem with a lot of "new threads" lol otherwise, what good would the forums be, right? :) But still, I think a "going and coming" thread would be good. For various reasons.

1. When I leave and come back each day...
should I post in here?

2. If not, then just exactly how long do I have to be gone before it officially counts as "gone"?

3. And if you have an answer for exactly how long it takes to be officially "gone"... then why exactly do YOU get to decide on this arbitrary time limit, instead of someone else with a different time limit?

I rest my case.
We can't possible have a thread just for people who are "gone", if we can't even figure out what "gone" means.

Yes... I feel confused like this all the time.

Lol okay, let me help you out. :-D

First example... midterms or finals. Student posts in this thread, "Guys, I'm SWAMPED and I have to be away from the forums for the next couple of weeks... didn't want you to worry!" (People post encouraging "Kick butt on your exams!" notices, which the person sees because hey, they posted in the thread, and they say, "Thanks!" and then poof for a couple of weeks. When they come back, they post, "Hey, that went great! Thanks!"

Example 2: Person is having surgery and may only be gone from the forums a couple of days. But they want to let people know. So they do! Yayy, everyone is informed!

Example 3: Person is having internet issues or computer difficulties so may not be able to post as often as they do. They post a "I don't know if I'll be around much" in this thread.

In other words, the uses of a thread like this are myriad, and so are the people who won't use it, I suppose! But I would be wiling to bet actual reputation points that if this thread existed, and if it were stickied, it would get a LOT of use. :)

I have some disturbing news for you.

This thread does exist... and we're actually in it.

Of course, we could discuss the whole nature of existence and whether this thread truly exists in a tangible way, or if it's really just a concept that exists on it's own an as abstract object without the necessity of a causal relationship or a physical manifestation...

but I still think we're in it.

The best reasons for starting (and sticky-ing) a "Leaving/Back" thread:

1. People are already making these posts throughout the forums. All over the place. One here, one there... goodbye threads, everywhere!

2. Having one solid location for people to post these messages gives them a -place- to post something that they are -already posting- at tooooo many locations.

There is ONE MORE solution to the whole "I'm leaving / I'm back" problem.

Instead of creating a special place for these people to post,
we could just NEVER LET THEM LEAVE...

like the mafia.

Half the people would never use it. We have a section for suggestions and a section for tech help. Where do people post these questions and comments? Misc.
We have a section for new users to introduce themselves. They start conversations instead of introduce themselves and introduce themselves elsewhere. Singles is full of married people, teens is full of adults and family is all about divorce. The place to discuss the bible is full of mean people. And no matter where you are the subject of your thread will be changed by the end of page one. =D

You certainly have a point, kind of ironic too like my accidentally posting in the teens forum scared me so much I reported myself to apologize, then later I see people even older than me posting in it,I was like ???????????,am I seeing things, considering the rules forbidding adults to post in teen forums, wacky stuff.

There is no rule forbidding adults from posting in the teen forums. Nor is there a rule forbidding married to post in singles, etc... Those areas are intended to focus around topics they are named after to attract others that fall into the category.
If there were strict limitations they would not even allow you to see that the teens forum existed if you were not a teen, like how they have done with the women's forum.

But most will find it odd if an adult starts a thread in the teens, or dwells in there too much, even though there is no rule against it.

Hi, Ugly :) A little disorganization on the forums is not a good argument for not having organization on the forums :)

When I was new, I used the introduction thread... when I needed tech help, I used the tech help thread. People do use them :)
