Is adult baptism necessary?

Is it necessary to get baptized as an adult if I was ignorantly baptized as a baby?
 
Baptism is the first step in obedience after you have accepted the Lord as your savior. I'm assuming that you were not saved when you were that little baby, so if you have now trusted Christ as your savior then I would suggest getting baptized.

Different denominations will tell you differently, but this is my story.

I am not catholic so I was not baptized as an infant. It was offered to my siblings and I as a personal choice and never pressured on us by our parents or our church. My sister was baptized as a young teen and my brother was baptized in his early twenties. I was baptized one year ago when I was 27 (on Easter day!).

After some time of feeling very strongly about getting baptized, now that I was part of a very vibrant and loving church where I have a lot of support, I decided it was time to just do it and take the plunge! When it comes to baptizing there is no age limit, as I saw people from age 9 to 50 get baptized!

I asked one of our pastors about people who want to get re-baptized and he said that their church (mennonite brethren) already recognizes previous baptisms so there is no need to get baptized again, unless the individual was baptized as a baby and would like to be "consensually" baptized as an adult.

So if you feel strongly that God wants you to be baptized publicly and announce your love for Him... don't hesitate! But consult your church leaders and pastors first since they may have their own thoughts on the matter. Ask if they offer baptism classes or if they can provide you with a mentor afterwards. That's what was done for me!

@agirlandherguitar Great post!! What was your life like after the baptism? I guess I mean in daily routines. Idk am I confusing you?

Take note of John 3:3 & 3:5 but read it in context. You must be born of water and the Spirit. "MUST"

Consider this verse the following way

Yeshua said you must be born of water and of the Spirit. Flesh gives birth to flesh (amniotic fluid thus born of water) , but the Spirit gives birth to spirit (born again)

:o pray about it and ask guidance from the Holy Spirit.
 
Unfortunately my South African brother has got it wrong and thats fine we are here to get it right. Its important to read the text in context and not draw our own conclusions from it.

Take note of verse 15. "It is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness."

Matthew 3:13-17

"Then Jesus came from Galilee to the Jordan to be baptized by John. [SUP]14 [/SUP]But John tried to deter him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”[SUP]15 [/SUP]Jesus replied, “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.” Then John consented."

Baptised as a baby means nothing, I was Catholic and most of what they do isn't biblical. Yes there are catholics who truly follow the Christ however baptism is a declaration of faith therefore your ignorance means it was of no use.

If you are born from your mother you are not baptised by the amniotic fluid (or here in South Africa anyway :D) but we are all entitled to our opinions :)

You are right in that the King is speaking about about being born or was he??? if you look at the next verses more specifically verse 22 below, you notice that the King Jesus the Christ was baptising people as well.

[SUP]22 [/SUP]After this, Jesus and his disciples went out into the Judean countryside, where he spent some time with them, and baptized. [SUP]23 [/SUP]Now John also was baptizing at Aenon near Salim, because there was plenty of water, and people were coming and being baptized. [SUP]24 [/SUP](This was before John was put in prison.)

Not offended at all. I am South African :p

I believe in adult baptism but as a sign of change and commitment to Yeshua. Do you need it for salvation, I doubt it. I believe that is man made doctrines (that you need salvation to be baptised) but nothing wrong with being baptised as an adult :) because it was good enough for our Saviour.
 
I'm not trying to prove you wrong but rather trying to get it right. Why not fulfil all righteousness. Okay have a look at it again and look at the meaning of the word proper.
Proper - belonging or relating exclusively or distinctively to; particular to

Yes we know that the King Jesus the Christ is Lord and John new this, The King replied “Let it be so now; it is proper for us to do this to fulfill all righteousness.”

I think we should troll all these questions brother and have a discussion on all of them.

stick with scripture, and not an isolated one as if trying to make a point.

and seek ABBA, as YAHSHUA(YAHWEH'S SALVATION ) says (in HIS WORD). go read the introduction greetings in the NT.
there is a very major surprise coming to your brain/thinking/ as YAHWEH'S WORD is different than you've been taught in some areas of import.
