I listen to hard rock Christian bands like Skillet and P. O. D. and Creed. IMO, these bands are anything but boring! :)

Skillet is good, I'll give you that. I've actually seen them a time or two; they're great live as well.

I know that many people don't like Christian songs and movies but the main thing is that you take in and mean the words that are being sang. A song is like a message and when you listen to it keenfully you will find a true meaning of what the song is saying. Well I know the instruments are played depressingly but would you rather praise God with rock Christian music or a nice quiet song that after a few minutes or seconds of listening your just drunk into praise ?

In terms of lyric repetition, mood, and overall feel, do most Christian songs sound really lame to anyone else? Or am I just thinking of church music...
Christian Songs are meant for Worship and Praising GOD Alone.
It is our way (believers) of Glorifying and Declaring God control our lives and We acknowledge Him as Our Creator the God Almight. So you can't find lyrics or tune that pleases ordinary people or non-christians coz the worldly songs are made for human emotions..

We can't blame some people if they find church songs " CHRISTIAN SONGS " boring etc meaning still they don't know
whom they singing the songs :)

Psalms 59:16-17 " But as for me, I shall sing of Your strength; Yes, I shall joyfully sing of Your lovingkindness in the morning, For You have been my stronghold And a refuge in the day of my distress. O my strength, I will sing praises to You; For God is my stronghold, the God who shows me loving kindness".

Colossians 3:16 ESV "Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God".

What about simply expressing the reality of life, in all its joy, pain, and sadness? Is that somehow unChristian? What about songs without lyrics?

Regarding the OP: as a musician, I find most popular music, Christian or otherwise, boring. That's why I don't let others dictate my listening, and why I listen to a wide range of music. Feel free to stretch your tastes! :)

I don't know your tastes or what is familiar to you, but you might take a listen to the following Christian musicians:

Bruce Cockburn
Roger Whittaker
Ladysmith Black Mambazo
Georg Friederich Handel
Christopher Parkening
Bill Gaither
Mahalia Jackson
Phil Keaggy
Take 6

Of course there are many, many more. This is just a sampling across the genres.

Most if not all Christian Music today really does nothing to uplift a person Spiritually. It ALL sounds like Rock and Roll.

Personally i enjoy the Old Time Christian Music. The Old Gospel music that most Churches today REFUSE to sing!!!

I feel so blessed by modern praise and worship! I am never bored to hear how Jesus loves us so much He gave His life so that we could truly live; I never tire of hearing how wonderful is our God, and always appreciate being reminded how wretched I really am, and what He lifted me out of. I love to hear the passion of fellow believers; I share in it, I feel one with them in it, and even more, I appreciate that they have dedicated their talents to praising God in such a way that it becomes a communal experience in the corporate body of Christ. The mastery of their craft is a testament to the goodness of God. It blesses me. It feeds me. It inspires and uplifts me. It speaks to the intimately personal nature of God's relationship with His creation. I experience my humanity in it juxtaposed against the glory of God. Praise God! We make a joyful noise unto the LORD! Hallelujah!

I had this question when I first converted to Christianity. I was a guitar player in my church's worship team and asked my church's worship leader why Christian songs were usually really easy to play and followed similar structural patterns. I asked why there were so many Christians in America but all of the creative talent seemed to be in secular music.

Her answer was that it's about the purpose of the music. It isn't that Christian artists suck at creativity but they make their music that way on purpose so that people can easily find melodies to sing along and worship teams can easily keep up with the instrumentals. Could you imagine the chaos if Flea's creative techniques from RHCP was applied to Hillsong? or if Randy Rhodes played for Jesus Culture? You would need intermediate-advanced bass and guitar players in almost every church. That's resources that the Church doesn't have.

After understanding this, I grew to love Christian/Worship music.

Sometimes I enjoy listening to contemporary Christian music, but honestly, for the most part the singers can't sing worth a lick and because of that I'd rather listen to rock bands who from time to time glorify God in a subtle way.
