Is it OK to lie?

It's between you and God how you answer the question. But why all the what if someone asks. Sometime silence is the best answer and a good it's really none of your business doesn't hurt once in a while.
You don't have to answer every question you are asked. Would you really want to lie and then face God in the next instant? How would you feel looking Him in the eyes right after you lied for any reason?
They have taking the 5th for a reason to not incriminate yourself and not lie at the same time.
Adam and Eve were asked to not do one thing. They did it anyway and look where it got all of us.
Do you really think telling a lie is o.k. ever for any reason?
Are you saying I'm not to be trusted with information just because I believe we should tell the truth? Really? lol
If they ask me where you are Willie to burn your house down I will be silent I don't have to tell them where you are. Jesus remained silent.
If they ask me about my mental friend. I will be silent because it is none of their business and they really don't need to know.
If they ask me if I'm hiding someone I don't have to answer and I don't have to let them in my house if they push me aside God knows I've done my best and it is His will if they get caught or not it could go either way God is all powerful and if He doesn't want the people to be found they won't be.
Why are we trying to limit God and His abilities? God said Thou shalt not lie do we obey or not? That is up to each person to decide we answer for our own sins or ask forgiveness and turn away from it or just don't do it to start with. Simple.
My understanding of the story is Moses sister was watching him and when the princess of Egypt came to bathe asked if she could go get a wet nurse for the baby when she saw that the princess was going to save Moses and the wet nursed ended up being Moses mother. That is not lying at least not on the mother's or Moses sister's part as she offered assistance for the baby.
The princess knew that the baby had been placed in the water to save him from death and had pity on this situation I don't see how you get a lie out of this story.
I should have said she asked if she could get a wet nurse not that she was asked to go get one.
The bible has examples of people who lied and seemingly were not rebuked or condemned for it...Rahab lied about the spies in her home for one.....maybe motive is at the core of the issue....God hates liars (Proverbs 6) so....what do we do with the anomolies found within scripture.........
Several of you seem to think being deceptive to the maximum is not a form of lying. If you can convince yourselves of that... and God, go for it. I, personally, can't make myself believe that the truth was paramount, just because you didn't form some specific words with your mouth.

That's sad. You insulted just about everyone yesterday, including a friend. (JL) I truly get being-in-a-mood. But it's the next day, and you can't even allow yourself to ask forgiveness of your friend.
It seems the only truth you find paramount is your own.
Finally! It took long enough. See, you actually DO think that was one of the commandments. We "Christians" have screwed up so much by imposing "supposed" Commandments upon our Sisters and Brothers, that were never given, at all. We even try to claim we are "commanded" not to drink alcoholic beverages, when Jesus, Himself drank wine — and bootlegged more than 900 bottles of the stuff for one single wedding reception.
If people don't ever take things apart and ask themselves, where are these words I'm saying coming from, are they coming from me (constructed), or are they coming through me (inspired), then most likely they come from themselves. The self is a liar by design, not so much in the sense of a liar who intentionally lies and wields the fascinating ability of the mind to lie, but the self will preserve self, it will be right even if it is wrong, it will say others are wrong to cover this.
A symptom of this is how people often find it easier not to get along, or learn anything from each other, than to be inspired in what they say, to be able to press the stop button, to let go of the judgement that has casted stone out of your opinion on specific people.
Because the internet is more connected to our logical mind, eg. to communicate you have to process writing it using a keyboard and an interface, without body language, the depths of lying on the internet are extreme. Even in a place of discussion this extreme can be, to yourself.
The truth is love, and anything not written with love, is uninspired. God is love, and anything written with love, is inspired. But it takes a big step and choice to decide that. It takes a kind of admission that you wrote so much bs. Some people never want to step down the narrow path of admitting error. I have made many errors here (you can jump on that if you want, is that inspired though?) I have my bad days, good days, life can be stressful these days. But if things do go down the wrong way, even if no-one said anything, I already feel remorse. Remorse is different to self-pity, it means you would prefer to be inspired.

Well, that's kind of one of the differences between you and me. You certainly do seem to go by whatever particular mood you are in on a given day. I, on the other hand, try to consider what I understand as a reality, and whether it is Monday, Wednesday, or a Saturday, I am pretty directly saying the same thing today as I said yesterday.
Yeah I got that impression. Guns are blazing and I poke my nose in. I get hit because people are really uptight, hot on the trigger and shooting at anything moving.
