This old woman would really appreciate it if these continuing topics springing up on the board would just stop and die.
I'm not afraid of discussing this. We have talked a bit about pornography in my Greek class. The words are there, and porno is just taking over the lives of Christian men, pastors, and some women too. But we don't need to have thread after thread on this topic, and they really are not edifying. Some people acknowledge the sin, others defend it and no one is convinced.
"For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world." 1 John 2:16 ESV
"For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:16 KJV
The words translated as "desires" in ESV above and "lust" in KJV are ἐπιθυμία, or epithumia, which someone has already mentioned. In fact, epithumia means "lust, desire, passion." So any kind of list of the desires of the flesh, are of the world. Including masturbation and porno. And KJV definitely gets this right, while the ESV is technically correct, I feel that "lust"is a far better translation of ἐπιθυμία because of the emphatic nature of the word "Lust."
