If this be literal, it is to form an actual way of escape from Jerusalem; if figurative, it symbolizes how that which would be the greatest hindrance to escape, the mountain which was higher than the city, blocking, as it were, the way, should itself afford the way of escape; as Zechariah speaks, "O great mountain, before Zerubbabel" thou shalt become a "plain" Zechariah 4:7; and Isaiah, "Every valley shall be exalted and every mountain and hill shall be brought low, and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough places plain" Is. Isa 40:4; that is, every obstacle should be removed.

The first sentence is exactly what happened during at least one landslide on the Mt of Olives, and is very close to what Josephus wrote about the landslide that clogged up the kings' gardens during King Uzziah's reign.
But I think I have found the key to this passage, and will quote for this end the following passage from Josephus, Antiq., book 9., chap. 10., being a part of the history of Uzziah: “The king was highly nettled at this, and threatened to put them to death if they spoke a word more. Immediately the earth trembled, and the roof of the temple opened, through which a beam of the sun darted full upon the face of the king, who from that instant became a leper. This prodigy was followed by another: near a certain place before the city, named Eroge, the one half of a mountain that looked westward was torn from the other half, and rolled for the space of four furlongs, till it stopped to the eastward of it, by which means the road was blocked up, and the king’s gardens covered with rubbish.

The verb that is translated 'split' in most bibles can also be translated 'rend' or 'tear apart', which is exactly what's happened. The evidence proves that. I'll get into the rest in a next post.

my view on the khazar theory has not changed since last year...last year i believed that the ashkenazi gene pool was fundamentally israelite with some contributions from the khazar people through intermarriage...and i still believe that...
africans are not israelites...that is 'black israelism' stuff...
the data doesn't show that arabs are israelites...what it shows is that 70% of modern jews have the same ancestor as 50% of modern arabs...namely abraham... the modern arabs would be the descendants of abraham's son ishmael...so most modern jews would be the descendants of abraham's son isaac...
the fact that 70% of modern jews and 50% of modern arabs share a common ancestor also means that ashkenazi jews cannot simply be khazars living under another name...unless you also want to argue that half of the arabs are khazars...
